About

Located within the Historic Charleston domain, Daniel Island offers a well-rounded and thoughtfully developed community for all families. Established in 1996 on formerly preserved hunting and fishing grounds, this renovated island presents a range of opportunities Both private and public education, local eateries, world-class golf and tennis clubs, a downtown waterfront, and miles of scenic trails can all be found on the island.

Size&Neighborhood

Daniel Island is made up of 4,000 acres of land, now prospering with two distinct "neighborhoods," Parkside and Southside Each offers unique characteristics that together create the one-of-akind living experience that defines Daniel Island.

Parkside is home to over 1,100 homes and is known for the luxurious Daniel Island Club, a renowned private country club with a multitude of amenities for its members A few offerings include two world-class golf courses, a fitness and tennis center, pickleball courts, fine dining, as well as a resort-style pool and cabana. The neighborhood itself presents timeless, custom-built homes with wrap-around porches and lush landscaping that truly embody the essence of "southern living " As of 2025, Parkside real estate ranges from $2M-12M+

History

The Southside introduces the more urban and animated setting of the island Over 2,000 single-family homes are represented alongside new condominiums and townhomes, including the latest properties at the Waterfront The commercial area of the island, Downtown, also falls on the Southside and offers local restaurants, shops, offices, schools, and miles of nature trails

Just a short walk from Downtown Daniel Island is Credit One Stadium This fresh and unique setting creates a space for locals to watch world-renowned artists such as The Lumineers, Dave Matthews, Jason Aldean, and more! The best in women's tennis also dominates Downtown when the Credit One Open comes to town Top female athletes such as Coco Gauff, Emma Navarro, Jessica Pegula, and Aryna Sabalenka fly to Charleston and put on a show for attendees

Traditionally inhabited by Native Americans since 2500 B C , the island was first discovered in 1670 by Jackson & John Norton, as the Etiwan Tribe inhabited the island After clearing the land and forming a partnership, the Nortons were granted 210 acres Following their settlement, the Lords Proprietors of England granted land to a few men, with the largest amount given to Robert Daniell in the 17th century. His land was divided into multiple plantations with a focus on the production of timber, lime, and brick. In 1947, over 2,900 acres were purchased by Harry Guggenheim and used for cattle farming and hunting grounds

HistoryCont'd

Following the death of Harry Guggenheim, the land was left to the Guggenheim Foundation, which then formed the Daniel Island Development Company. The company's hope was to create a master plan for the community. This master plan had one objective: unparalleled residential convenience They wanted to provide a city within a city, so making calculated and informed decisions was the only way forward

The plan was approved by the Guggenheim Foundation and construction began in 1996

IslandLocation

The island itself sits in the middle of the Charleston domain; just 8 miles from the Charleston International Airport, 20 minutes from Downtown Charleston's Historic District, and 20 minutes from the beautiful sand dunes of both Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island.
