ATLANTA’S most INFLUENTIAL EVENT PLANNERS MY MOTHER USED TO ALWAYS SAY PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS POOR PERFORMANCE. She was right, as all mothers are, but in her critque of special occasions the saying couldn’t be more true. After attending my fair share of under planned, poorly thought out events I decided to scour the metro Atlanta area for the very people who make it their life’s goal, making sure events go just right. After all, a wedding is not just a wedding but rather the first time a new couple act as host and hostess for their guests; and a corporate event is not just a corporate event, but rather a marketing opportunity to share the brand intentions of such company, and a young girl’s bat mitzvah is not just another milestone in life for which gifts are bought, but a budding woman’s coming of age. Each occasion, whether large or small in scale deserve the same ratio of prior planning. So, combining my research with the testimony from some of Atlanta’s finest event professionals who have worked sideby-side with each of these woman, we’ve selected 10 Atlanta Event Planners who are making things happen. These vibrant planners are redefining what it means to celebrate. For some, it’s closely coordinated details and others it’s colorful theatrics. Although their visions and talents are diverse, what unites each is the dedication to their craft and perseverance to make each, individual event, unique to their own client. ON LOCATION AT THE ST. Ashley Baber is Ashley Baber Weddings. And she does just that. Weddings. The Colorado transplant moved to Atlanta with her husband and set out to make weddings her life, one carefully cooridintaed detail at time. Joined by a staff of 4 other ladies, Ashley and her team believe that when you focus on one specialty at a time, you gain the experience necessary to make you an expert. And experts are what her clients need. Ashley focuses on weddings that are unique and fun while reflecting the couple’s personality in amazing details. Did we mention detail? Candy Berman of Candy Berman & Associates specializes in creating a fundraising strategy for non-profit organizations utilizing events. Not merely just an “event planning” firm, but rather a strategic powerhouse, Candy dives head first into donor cultivation, annual campaigns and capturing her clients share of Atlanta’s philantropic dollars. Her challenge, which she’s aptly accepted, is to create events that educate the public about an organization’s mission, honor leaders, and create new relationships. As Candy puts it, “It’s all about my client’s money. I make it for them, not just for the present, but for the future, too.”
Christina Zubowicz of Magnolia Events & Planning specializes in the social event market, planning and coordinating high profile weddings and mitzvahs. Christina has a strong operational background in managing events, which provides her with a solid edge in planning and execution. Christina earned her event stripes working for Bold American Catering and The Fifth Group Restaurants, serving in event management, marketing coordination and operations management for the organization. Christina now prides herself on her panache and professionalism while working behind the scenes with a wide range of clients – from busy brides to fledgling companies, from non-profits to corporate giants.
Eliana Baucicault of ellyB Events Inc. specializes in wedding and social events. When you secure her services you get much more than a planner, you also get a project manager. Eliana comes packed with a Master’s of Business Administration punch no single detail can hide from. Eliana strives to make the planning process perfect, but it’s the relationship with her client that she’s most concerned about. She explains “Whether that means taking a break from the planning process to enjoy a girls day out or having a relaxing dinner, it’s about connecting with my clients to truly know who they are and what the ultimate expectation of their event is.” Be unique, be chic, be you.
Lorri McQueary of Destination South Meetings & Events (a destination management company and meeting production firm), focuses solely on innovative, custom experiences for corporate, association and non-profit clients. This includes receptions, awards galas, excursions, meeting production, tradeshows, team-building activities, tours and more. Clients of Destination South get a team of planners who conceptualize and implement large scale productions. As Creative Director, Lorri brings an event’s message and meaning to life in visually exciting ways, always bending over backwards to deliver more than she promises.

Michelle Gainey of Lemiga Events specializes in wedding and event design with an eye for style and glamour. She creates the overall vision for an event and works with the rest of the Lemiga Events team of talented vendors to bring that vision to life. Michelle prides herself on walking her clients through every step of the process from venue selection to vendor selection to décor as well as full event planning and execution. Enchanting venues, sumptuous fabrics, stunning florals and captivating stationery are some of the elements that make Michelle’s events spectacular.
Sharon Fischer of It’s My Party, Inc. has been in business for over twenty years. Sharon mainly focuses on weddings and bar and bat mitzvahs, but she also does parties and corporate events. Sharon is proud of the fact that she facilitates events and is the eyes and ears of her clients. She also teaches others about the kosher market. Because she’s been in business so long, Sharon says she can easily get to know clients and match them with vendors for a symbiotic fit.
Susan Graham of Susan Graham Signature Events (SGSE) is a social event stylist as well as wedding planner. She specializes in creating boutique, custom designs based on cues from her clients’ lifestyle and story as a couple. Susan develops and presents up to three inspiration boards to her clients in the beginning stages of planning. Typically, one design hits the nail on the head and she references that inspiration board every time she considers an item for the wedding. Susan manages all vendor negotiations and communications, creates and tracks the wedding budget, and provides organization, inspiration and support throughout the engagement.
Tammy von Nordheim of Executive Events specializes in award presentations, board meetings, focus groups, VIP hospitality events, seminars and more. She builds unique relationships with her clients. With Tammy, it’s about details, vision, organization, and the means to pull off both big and small events without a hitch, all within a specified budget. Tammy prides herself on relating effectively to a wide range of people and is able to visualize an event not only from start to finish, but also the steps she will take to accomplish it.
Born and raised in South Africa,Terry has many years of experience in the restaurant business and planning events here in Atlanta and abroad. She has seventeen years in the event planning industry and can help plan every aspect of your event; from helping to set your date and arranging every detail of your special day, to organizing and booking every specific aspect of your event. Her primary focus is weddings but she also does numerous bar and bat mitzvahs and private parties as well as some corporate events.

elebrating the recognition of Atlanta’s 10 Most Influential Event Planners would call for none other than the ultimate luxury landmark, The St. Regis. The catering and event staff treated the group of go-to gals in the swanky wine room for their own personal sabering and toast to a remarkable group of women making waves of improvement in the event planning industry. The St. Regis brand is steeped in years of tradition and heritage. The ceremonial sabering of a champagne bottle is still performed each evening at 6pm by the house butler. The technique was made popular just after the French Revolution when Napoleon and his army would celebrate the spectacular victories by slicing open a champagne bottle with their sabre. The finest bottle of Heidsieck, mirrored with a chef ’s selection of delicacies from the St. Regis’ very own Paces 88 restaurant were the perfect combination for the St. Regis’ unique take on happy hour.
