THE TREND
HEAVY METAL
L
ike Matthew Quinn’s striking treatment of this stove’s vent hood and backsplash, we love the weighty feeling that burnished brass and bronze are lending to the latest lighting, hardware and furnishings. These heavy metals eschew polish and lacquer in favor of a brushed, fingerprint-resistant finish that doesn’t tarnish as much over time. Put simply: It’s the best of both worlds.

NAILED IT “The hood was inspired by the decorative hardware for the cabinetry, which features a subtle hammered detail called peening. Since the hood was so much larger in scale, our Colorado metal shop used a huge peening hammer to achieve this wonderful texture on unlacquered brass—which doesn’t show fingerprints and patinas both quickly and beautifully.” —Matthew Quinn
