THE MICHELIN GUIDE ARRIVES IN ATLANTA

The first MICHELIN Guide Atlanta selection, featuring world-class restaurants in the metro Atlanta area, will be revealed in the fall, giving food and travel enthusiasts a lot more to discover in Atlanta.

Atlanta is a city full of culinary experiences that range from fine dining to casual eating. The diverse culture of the city plays a key part in its vibrant gastronomy, and now the world gets to see it.

“Atlanta’s culinary scene is rich in diversity and constantly evolving but has long been one of the most underappreciated assets in our city,” said William Pate, president and CEO of Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are proud of the recognition the MICHELIN Guide will bring to our destination as it highlights our local chefs and cuisine.”

The famously anonymous MICHELIN Guide inspectors are already in the field, eating their way through metro Atlanta. They each make their own dining reservations secretively and pay for all their meals. It is a standard for the MICHELIN Guide to ensure that inspectors are being treated the same way as any other customer. Inspectors visit each restaurant more than once and on different days and times of the week.

MICHELIN Stars are awarded to restaurants offering outstanding cooking, following Michelin’s historical methodology based on five universal criteria: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavors, the mastery of cooking techniques, the voice and personality of the chef as expressed through the cuisine and the consistency across the entire menu and over time.

MICHELIN Guide inspectors will be considering Atlanta’s restaurants for the iconic MICHELIN Stars, the Bib Gourmand distinction and the MICHELIN Green Star. The MICHELIN Stars — one, two or three — are awarded to unparalleled cuisine; the Bib Gourmand is given to restaurants that offer great quality food at good prices;

the MICHELIN Green Star is awarded to restaurants that are leaders in sustainable gastronomy. Along with that, inspectors will also highlight Recommended restaurants and special professional awards.

The MICHELIN Guide was first published in France at the turn of the 20th century to encourage tire sales by giving practical advice on places for French motorists to explore. The guide came to North America in 2005. It has become a reliable companion for any traveler seeking a great meal. The MICHELIN Guide is constantly observing the evolution of culinary destinations around the world, and now we are honored to have it in Atlanta.

Music Midtown

An edgy lineup of more than 30 artists takes over Piedmont Park on four stages Sept. 15-17. Expect genres of rock, hiphop, pop, electronic and much more, creating sounds to permeate Atlanta’s

popular green space. Headliners P!nk, Billie Eilish and Guns N’ Roses will take the stage along with Flume, Lil Baby, The 1975, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Pitbull, Incubus and many more. Sunday in the Park

A cemetery might sound odd for a nice afternoon outing but the final resting place for many of Atlanta’s most famous residents has hosted gatherings since the Victorian era. On Sept. 24, Sunday in the Park will feature the music festival Tunes from the Tombs with headliners Fireside Collective and Jon Stickley Trio and local favorites Black Lion Reggae and The Aint Sisters. Atlanta Streets Alive

After a four-year hiatus, Atlanta Streets Alive is back, showcasing the power of open streets by temporarily closing them to vehicular traffic. On Sunday, Sept. 24 from 2-6 p.m., a three-mile stretch of Peachtree Street in Downtown and Midtown will be open to pedestrians, bikes, scooters, skateboards, strollers and more. Events along the route will include a special Green Market at The Hub at Peachtree Center with DJs from Scratch Out Loud, a performance from Poetry vs. Hip-Hop and live R&B music. Día de Muertos

ONE MusicFest

The Southeast’s largest two-day urban progressive music festival offers a true Atlanta experience, celebrating 50 years of hip-hop this year. Held at Piedmont Park in Midtown, this year’s two-day outdoor festival happens Oct. 28-29. The eclectic mash up of urban artists includes top names and local talent such as Janet Jackson, Kendrick Lamar, Brent Faiyaz, Megan Thee Stallion, Nelly, Killer Mike, Goodie Mob, Waka Flocka and many more.

Atlanta Pride Festival

The largest gathering of LGBTQ+ people and allies in the Southeast, Atlanta Pride Festival features music, marches, educational and social events, and a signature parade. More than 250 booths will be available at the festival in Piedmont Park Oct. 14-15. The official kickoff party at Georgia Aquarium starts the weekend off on Friday, Oct. 13, while events including the Dyke March, Trans March and Bi & Pan March will

be held on Oct. 14. The annual Pride Parade starts Oct. 15 at noon and draws more than 100,000 people to cheer and show support along the route through Midtown.

Atlanta Pride, el Festival del Orgullo Gay de Atlanta, fue fundado en 1971 y es uno de los festivales del orgullo más antiguos e importantes de Estados Unidos y el mayor festival del orgullo del sureste.

On the streets of Atlanta, you can live and feel the rich culture of hip-hop, which has become much more than just a genre of music. Hip-hop has a huge influence on everyday urban life.

SHOPPING WHERE THE HISTORY OF HIP-HOP UNRAVELS

Experience this culture by visiting places like Walter’s, the clothing and

shoe store in Downtown that has been mentioned in several hip-hop songs and where you can buy trendy Jordans next to hip-hop icons.

Lenox Square in Buckhead is a landmark where Antwan and André 3000 would meet up before creating OutKast and where T.I. started handing out flyers and copies of his early mixtapes. In addition to being an iconic venue, it has been mentioned in several songs by artists such as Nicki Minaj, Drake, T.I., Rick Ross, Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy. A TRIBUTE TO THE ICONIC DUO

Head over to the eclectic neighborhood of Little Five Points and visit the mural that pays tribute to Atlanta’s beloved duo, “André 3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton. The black and white mural of OutKast was created by street artist JEKS, in collaboration with WISH — the store next door — and the Outer

Space Project in Atlanta. The inspiration for the very-popular mural came from a picture of the duo taken by hip-hop artist photographer Jonathan Mannion.

THE PLACE TO BE ON WHEELS ON A SUNDAY NIGHT

Take a ride just outside the Westside and visit Cascade Family Skating Rink. This family skating rink was instrumental in the growth of hip-hop during the 1980s and 1990s. Roller skating is iconic to Atlanta, and this rink has seen some of hip-hop’s biggest artists such as TLC and Jermaine Dupri take turns during their rise in the industry.  In 2006, the rink caught even more attention after being featured in the comedy-drama film “ATL,” starring Atlanta’s own T.I. and Big Boi. Even Usher has been spotted here, on wheels.

T.I.’S TRAP MUSIC MUSEUM

Your visit to Atlanta is not complete without a tour of the Trap Music Museum, also known as the Pink Trap House. With a facade that resembles the pink house from the cover of 2Chainz’s album “Pretty Girls Like Trap,” this museum is a monument created by T.I. to commemorate the trap music movement and hip-hop culture in Atlanta. “Graffiti is an essential art form,” says Adam Crawford, founder of Cat Eye Creative. “It’s passion-driven – people risking their freedom to create a piece of art for the public.”

Find art for sale by Atlanta’s own Vayne, whose graffiti is well-known but whose identity is a secret well-kept. While his pieces can sell for thousands of dollars indoors, outdoors they are free, iconic and sometimes illegal.

The Trap Music Museum has contemporary art displayed throughout (much of which is available for purchase).

One such work is DL Warfield’s “We Did It for Trap Music,” which puzzles together mug shots of T.I. and other big names.

Head coach Shawn Elliott is entering his seventh season as the leader of the Panthers, and they will start the season with a pair of home games under the lights at Center Parc Stadium.
