CONCIERGE CORNER When visitors come to the city, it’s a good bet to find out what to see and do from our knowledgeable concierge friends. J. Preston Rooks, Jr., Concierge for The St. Regis Atlanta and Member of Les Clefs d’Or USA gives us his tips. When visitors come to Atlanta, I tell them to . . . Experience: See the numerous outdoor activities and festivals in the area, including upcoming ones this summer: Concerts in the Garden at the Atlanta Botanical Garden (July 13 and 27, Aug. 4 and 24); Atlanta Ice Cream Festival in Piedmont Park (July 28); Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival in Westside Provisions (July 15); Piedmont Park Arts Festival (Aug. 18-19); and Dragon Con Downtown (Aug. 30-Sept. 3). Dine at: The Tavern at Atlas here in The
St. Regis Atlanta. It offers a nice, light fare menu, along with a summer music series on the bar/outdoor patio (weather permitting). Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Atlas invites guests to enjoy live music from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the patio. We showcase the musical talents of Atlanta’s own Lilac Wine on Wednesday and Fridays and Melissa Bret on Thursdays. Buy: Sweet Georgia peaches at the local farmers markets and fruit stands, as they are at their peak in July. Visit Lane Southern Orchards, about an hour and a half from our hotel. They are open daily 7 a.m.-6 p.m. and provide seasonal tours. Check out Lucy’s Market, where they feature products made here in Georgia. Georgia’s Gifts & More has products along with themed baskets featuring local Georgia products.
