✔ In this issue's editorial, KIS President David Saltiel looks back on the nine months since the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, focusing on what Israel’s military operations in Gaza have revealed.
✔ The commemorative series of stamps "Synagogues of Greece" was presented at an event held in Athens, at the Old Parliament House, on April 18, 2024, the first day of circulation of the stamps. We publish the speeches delivered by the President of the Hellenic Post Daniel Benardout, the painter Myrsini Vardopoulou who designed the stamps and the Director of the Jewish Museum of Greece Zanet Battinou, who collaborated for the release of the stamps.
✔ On the occasion of the students protests in the USA against Israel, we republish the article of Adam Rubin “This is definitely not my dad’s antiwar protest” (Times of Israel, 22.4.2024), son of Jerry Rubin, an iconic anti-war activist of the 60s. The columnist highlights the differences between then and now pointing our that "certain circles, under the guise of anti-war sentiment, openly support violent organizations such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah."
✔ We publish the first part of the study by the historian Thrasyvoulos Papastratis on the topic "The image of the Jews of Didymoteicho through the newspapers of Evros during the period 1924-1940".
✔ With its fourth part published here, the study of Professors John Kalef Ezra and Dionysis Drosos on the “Sonderkommando” is being completed, focusing on the administration of justice and the social reintegration of the Sonderkommando survivors.
✔ We publish the speech of Patras University professor Giorgos Panagiotopoulos, entitled "Journey of memory for the understanding of the past and the awakening of knowledge", delivered at the academic Conference "The Holocaust on the island of the Righteous", organized in Zakynthos (1-2.2.2024) by the Directorate
of Primary Education of Zakynthos in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Religious Affairs of the Greek Education Ministry.
✔ On the occasion of the circulation of the book by Yiannis Karatzoglou "Mediators and collaborationists and the end of Jewish entrepreneurship in occupied Thessaloniki" (ed. Epikentro, 2023, p. 576), we publish the article by the author and historical researcher Achilleas Hekimoglou on the fate of Jewish properties in Thessaloniki during the German Occupation.
✔ The Metropolitan Bishop of Fanari Agathangelos in his article, which we republish here from the website Orthodoxia Info, analyzes anti-Semitism and Nazism.
✔ Professor Georgios Sarigiannis in his essay "The Jew in Karagiozis" examines how the figure of the Jew is presented in the shadow puppet theater of "Karagiozis".
✔ We publish a brief tribute to the life and work of the late Raphael Frezis, writer, historical researcher and for many years president of the Jewish Community of Volos, who passed away on April 20, 2024.
✔ The presentation of the book "Holocaust Songs of the Greek Jews" by soprano Mariangela Hatzistamatiou took place in Athens, on May 29, 2024. The book is fruit of the second phase of the soprano's research project on the subject of the songs of the Greek-Jewish tradition, with its first product being the release of the musical CD with all the relevant orchestrated songs.
✔ The author Marisa Decastro presents the new book by the historian Rika Benveniste "Castaways, family and other stories in the History of the post-war world" (ed. Polis, 2023), on the subject of the revival of Jewish life in Kavala.
✔ The issue closes with book reviews.
