The birth center in Mangakounda, located on the banks of a Casamanza River branch, embodies the belief that childbirth is a communal act. This maternity center seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings, reflecting the land's colors.
The design of the center emphasizes community involvement in childbirth. Its interior features curved walls forming a central corridor, the project's backbone. These walls create spaces for community activities related to maternal care, fostering constant collaboration in the birthing process. The concept that mothers nurture the land, and in return, the land nurtures them, is evident throughout the center.
Natural light bathes the interior, highlighting the organic curves inspired by nature. The entire structure is unified under one roof. The hospitalization ward, oriented towards the west, offers a panoramic view of the river, welcoming mothers and their newborns with the tranquility of nature.
