Fascinating science... Hot air balloons

BodyWorks

Work together in this family group activity. Make and launch your very own hot air balloon as you learn all about the properties of gas.

How high can I jump? How much water is in my body? How flexible am I? What will I look like if I smoke? The exciting BodyWorks exhibition is a fully hands-on, active learning experience. Investigate your amazing body and what it can do.

Forces See Isaac Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion made easy. If you love discovery, laughing and “having a go” then you’ll enjoy this interactive physics experience.

Could you be an Olympian? Come to the Fit Lab and test your strength, speed and agility with the state-of-the-art light-gate system.

Rockets Design and launch a rocket to hit a target. Investigate Newton’s 3rd law – ‘every action has an equal and opposite reaction’. (For every force in one direction there is an equal force in the opposite direction.)

Magnificent magnets Aimed at younger children, this activity will develop an understanding of magnets and how they work. Make your own magnet and take it home.

Plane crazy Whose plane can fly the furthest? This activity is for people of all ages. There are many different planes to choose from. How far will yours go?

Take the K’NEX challenge Compete as a family group to see who can make the tallest tower out of K’NEX with a set kit, in a set time. Be creative and reach for the sky.

Cool science Even though you can’t see it the air around us is filled with lots of different gases. Come and explore some of the properties of carbon dioxide and nitrogen in this uniquely chilling opportunity.
