Pinero’s classic comedy This spring, Theatre Royal Brighton Productions a new national theatre company under the helm of Christopher Luscombe along with Maria Aitken and Philip Franks - are proud to present their inaugural production of Dandy Dick. Written in Brighton in 1887, Dandy Dick stars Olivier Award-winner Patricia Hodge, whose career spans film (Betrayal, Behind Enemy Lines), theatre (Noises Off, Calendar Girls) and television (a BAFTA nomination for Hotel du Lac, Mrs Thatcher in The Falklands Play and, of course, Miranda). Joining Patricia is Nicholas Le Prevost, whose many theatre credits include My Fair Lady at the National Theatre, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award. Following his huge success with The Madness of George III in the West End, the fabulous cast of comic actors will be directed by Christopher Luscombe.

a vicar, his SISTER AND A RUNAWAY HORSE!

Dandy Dick tells the hilarious story of the Very Reverend Augustin Jedd, a pillar of Victorian respectability, who preaches regularly against the evils of the Turf. But a visit from his tearaway sister, herself an habitual gambler, leads him to risk all at the races. Mayhem ensues with mistaken identity, illicit cookery and a runaway horse . . .

john chapman’s rip-roaring comedy

the atg foundation presents

a nostalgic and entertaining evening Directed by Ron Aldridge A crooked bookie and his two accomplices devise a cunning plan to ‘get rich quick’; to kidnap the odds-on favourite horse and replace it with their own decrepit nag. But Honest Alf, Flash Harry and Fred find more hurdles than they bargained for on their way to the final post - a comatose horse, a blossoming love affair and a bewildered French jockey all see chaos reign under the roof of the eccentric Colonel Wagstaff and his wife. Listed in the National Theatre’s top 100 plays, Dry Rot was first performed in 1954 and ran for more than 3 years in the West End. Written by John Chapman, who wrote over 200 TV comedies including the Emmy award winning Fresh Fields, Happy Ever After and The Liver Birds, this hilarious farce is one of the finest examples of the genre. Secret doors, split-second timing, flawless physical comedy and an all-star cast with some of the country’s best loved faces including Liza Goddard, Susan Penhaligon, Gareth Hale & Norman Pace, Neil Stacy and Derren Nesbitt make Dry Rot a sure bet that will have you roaring with laughter. 6

Richmond Theatre is excited to be participating in this ambitious nationwide new writing project, created and performed in six ATG theatres from Glasgow in the north to London in the south. Forming part of the London 2012 Festival, the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad, playwright Ursula Rani Sarma and young people from across the nation deliver a vibrant piece of new writing inspired by the Olympic theme of truce. Ursula’s ideas, gathered from workshops with young people from the local community, have produced an exciting, innovative piece of theatre. Richmond’s participants will be joined by groups from the Churchill Theatre, Bromley and the New Wimbledon Theatre in a special South London Gala performance. Together they will present three compelling pieces of new writing, giving an insight into our culture and how young people see the world in 2012. Don’t miss the opportunity to be the first to see these new plays.

This dazzling comedy is part broad farce, part case-history and brings together two of the world’s greatest and most eccentric minds. Antony Sher is one of the leading actors of his generation and most recently performed in Richmond as Prospero in the RSC’s sell-out production of The Tempest. ROUGH JUSTICE by Terence Frisby wed 12 - sat 15 sep Wed - Sat eves 7.30pm Thu & Sat mats 2.30pm

Tom Conti makes a welcome return to Richmond Theatre after delighting audiences in the hilarious Wife After Death. The author of the triumphant comedy There’s a Girl in My Soup, brings us a very different treat - a murder story, a courtroom drama, a suspenseful thriller.

mon 3 - sat 8 sep Mon - Sat eves 7.30pm Wed & Sat mats 2.30pm

Television journalist James Highwood has made his career out of challenging the British justice system in his documentary programmes. Now, suddenly, he finds the system challenging him as he is brought to court on a charge of murder.

TICKETS £15 £19.50 £25 £29.50 (Premium seats £35)

Highwood admits the killing but perversely chooses to defend himself, pushing the tolerance of the court to its limits and framing his defence in terms calculated to incense the judge. Tom Conti is brilliantly suited to the part of James Highwood in this gripping courtroom drama. Greg only met Ginny a month ago but has already made up his mind that she’s the girl for him. When she tells him that she’s going to visit her parents, he decides this is the moment to ask her father for his daughter’s hand. Discovering a scribbled address, he follows her to Buckinghamshire where he finds Philip and Sheila enjoying a peaceful Sunday morning breakfast in the garden, but the only thing is they’re not Ginny’s parents. Beautifully crafted, wonderfully funny and charmingly English, Relatively Speaking was Alan Ayckbourn’s first great West End success and turned him into a household name. GOOD GRIEF

By Ronald Harwood Directed by Joe Harmston Starring Timothy West Caroline Langrishe & Adrian Lukis With video testimony By Vanessa Redgrave as Sister Sophia

by Keith Waterhouse

Adapted by Keith Waterhouse from his own best-selling comic novel, Good Grief tells the story of June Pepper, the recently bereaved widow of the editor of a tabloid newspaper, who discovers there is far more to life than death. Following her late husband’s instructions to keep a journal of her feelings, June finds that grieving is not the straightforward process she had imagined, especially when she finds herself surprisingly drawn to a stranger she sees wearing her husband’s suit! Good Grief features that sparkling combination of wry humour and poignancy which characterised Keith Waterhouse’s extensive writing (Billy Liar, Our Song, Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell). Penelope Keith is one of Britain’s best-loved actresses, known to millions for her television roles in The Good Life and To the Manor Born. She returns to Richmond following a sell out performance in The Importance of Being Earnest. 14

Cressida and Julian Field live comfortably in the Sussex countryside with their elderly Ukrainian odd-job man and friend of the family, Romka. Cressida calls him her ‘life-saver’. Then suddenly the police arrive. What has Romka done? Is he guilty? Is there a time limit on punishment? The Handyman looks at questions surrounding culpability, retribution, universal responsibility and the possibility of evil, in a story that holds and intrigues from start to finish. Timothy West is one of the UK’s favourite stage and TV actors, most recently starring at Richmond in Quartet. Ronald Harwood is one of the world’s leading dramatists. His many plays include The Dresser, Taking Sides and Quartet. Photograph by Stephen Vaughan

RUPERT EVERETT FREDDIE FOX cal macininch Having broken records on Broadway and played to sold-out audiences in London’s West End, David Esbjornson’s awardwinning, smash hit production has dazzled audiences and critics alike. This heart-warming play is now on tour across the UK for a strictly limited season. Inspiration for the much-loved Oscar-winning smash hit movie, Driving Miss Daisy is the charming, poignant and utterly compelling tale of the unlikely, long-lasting friendship that blossoms between a prickly, elderly southern matriarch, Daisy Werthan (Gwen Taylor) and her kind-hearted chauffeur, Hoke Colburn (Don Warrington). As the wheels turn and the decades roll by against a backdrop of prejudice, inequality and civil unrest, the pair slowly transcend their differences and ultimately grow to rely on each other far more than either ever expected. Sparklingly funny, irresistibly heart-warming and with a wonderful much-loved cast, Driving Miss Daisy is the must-see show of 2012. 16

Hollywood star Rupert Everett plays Oscar Wilde, with Freddie Fox as Lord Alfred Douglas, in David Hare’s compelling drama about the power of all-consuming love and the cruelty of betrayal. It is 1895 and Wilde’s masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest is playing in the West End after a triumphant premiere, but already the wheels are in motion which will lead to his imprisonment, downfall and vilification. Forced to make a choice between his lover and freedom, the ever-romantic Wilde embarks on a course towards self-destruction. Rupert Everett shot to fame in Julian Mitchell’s play and subsequent film of Another Country. Since then, his leading screen roles have included My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Importance of Being Earnest and St Trinians. ‘Not to be missed’ Sunday Express on Swan Lake

moscow city ballet with the moscow city ballet orchestra

‘Moscow City Ballet’s the Sleeping Beauty had a grandeur and glamour’ Balletco

Moscow City Ballet is currently at its outstanding artistic best. Orchestra, choreography, interpretation, beauty and outstanding virtuoso performance win repeatedly rave reviews. Tchaikovsky’s ballets are the essence of Russian culture composed, choreographed and premiered in Russia. Seeing performances by Moscow dancers never fails to add that magical ingredient of soul.

The Sleeping Beauty The enchanting and romantic story of The Sleeping Beauty inspired Tchaikovsky to write some of his most glorious music, and the ballet has captivated audiences for well over a hundred years.

Swan Lake Swan Lake is probably the world’s best-known ballet, set to Tchaikovsky’s sublime score. You will be moved by this fable which follows the fate of Prince Siegfried as he falls in love with the beautiful Swan Queen, Odette. 22
