a house that adapts to the way of life of people in the village. Something that they experienced, or at least ever experienced. the aisles and “pockets” formed by the arrangement of the units become the heart of this residential activity, representing their “street smart” nature that can make space spontaneous and temporarily function the remaining units are capsule units, measuring only 2.4 x 2.4 and 1.2 x 1.2. Trying to pull out the function of a residence unit, so that what remains is a function for sleep. Sharing & compromising space, as co-living keywords occur on the smallest to large scale (S,M,L,XL). S: shared between 2 live units, sunken sandbox. M: shared playground between 8 living units . L: shared bathroom, edible garden, basketball and badminton court. XL: amphitheater and daycare on ground floor using the space truss frame structure, to achieve the impression of a stacking box and cantilever, also gives the impression that this building is industrial but still alive. convention center exploration of expression using lightweight material individual project | final project August 20 - May 21

the thriving economical growth results in the expanding of economical activities around the community. This situation asks for a convention centre as the solution to held such activity that would invovle numerous audiences. Convention centre as a public building needs to be highly functional and effective in its material to achieve a wide span of space. Until now, steel is still the most popularly used material to that for its structural performances and effective fabrication. The abundant usage of this material results in conventional architectural expression, whereas many similar building typology excel more in its beauty that is achieved with many other material alternatives.The design of convention centers also tends to set aside the importance of public space, which if we put more effort and love to it, could results in an unique space and experiences.

This project is aimed to produce a convention centre design that integrates a beautifully designed public space, and to generate a transparency aesthetic using wood and plastic as lightweight materials

a city that promotes walking as a main tool to experience the vibrant quality of urban space INITIAL IDEAS happening urban culture demands people to adapt the rapid and instant lifestyle, which sometimes makes them forget to pause a bit and celebrate the moment of experiencing the space itself by walking THE CONCEPT by designing a city for people, the space created are not necessarily dictate the way they use space, but rather more as an atmosphere which the pedestrian are given the options of how they want to use and perceive it.

Hiding a sequence of “surprise moment” as they read through the urban space, we would love to recall the excitement and the journey of walking MIX-USE CONFIGURATION incorporating program diversity, we are pushing the mix of activites within the area to respond the dynamic growth and the demand of sustaining activites. Includes live, stay, work, play, shops, or just to enjoy life OPEN SPACE out of the seemingless dense configuration of the building masses, we create open spaces where people may escape from the business of activites.

Other than the supergrid and the space in between buildings, we provide a long sunken promenade that connects Jl. Melawai Raya with underground spaces of Blok M Square. This long axis will have several numbers of medium-size retail stops, elongated park, and calming water feature.

PERMEABILITY we express buildings permeability with interconnecting, stacking, and penetrating public circulation that took form into a 3 m public pathway. This structure allows people to access all part of spaces within the urban experiencing journey.

There will be nodes along the path of the pathway in the form of spontaneous wider path that have seating amenities, small garden, ATM, or just informal communal space.

ENCLOSURE one way to promote rich serial vision in reading urban space is to include that “discovering hidden gem” moment throughout the experience, by using courtyard different levels of courtyard enclosure are distributed along the area depending on their respective neighbouring buildings and the programs that surround the courtyard.

The courtyard activites are not designated to any of a specific courtyard.

They are flexible in a way that it does not dictate the user, but rather more as an atmosphere we treated the courtyard not only as a flexible open space, but an open space that can also links the people to access neighbouring or building blocks across the site through public pathway that can be accesed from adjoining stairs that reach into the courtyard

we took a chance to envision how communal living dwells one of the most popular job in present era: Go-Ride drivers. based on grid of 1000mm, we started from the bottom up, designing how trespassing drivers could enter the building serenely and effective through the configuration of concrete columns that stands for 6000mm high. Separating which zone can be penetrated by vehicles or pedestrians by variating the distances of columns. climbing the “floating” loft, drivers will find himself enter a whole different scene, from forest-like and intimidating space to broad and playful scape.

On the upper level, lies small compact living unit for each driver that surrounds a terrace enriched with garden and playground.

diminishing space speaks about creating an ambigous space, reflecting the use and essence of that space. My strategy is to echo the elements that already exist in Kampung Wates house typology : terracotta, roof tiles, and terraces.

Roof tiles that usually sits above the roof strucutre, organised vertically, will be represented in a whole new way. My aim is that human can interact hapticly and playfully, with a new construction method, horizontal-oriented, and turning the quality of roof finishing material into interactive facade. terrace, represented into an adobe shelter , stands on adobe column, that dwells human activites and organic plants. Human, plants, and columns as the vertical elements under the horizontal span of wall-less canopy, blurs the boundary of indoor-outdoor space. The form responds to the void in between the Wates family houses, allowing borrowed space to happen between the space from the canopy and the open space ( void ). the organic cycle of plants happen on the ground floor, that is distributed to several zones according to each stage of the life cycle. One interesting aspect is when the plants are at polybag stage, they can be used too as visual blocking for the guests whom sit under the canopy.

how small can you go? silent meditation cabin for 2 people

who does not want to be big? Seeing things as it is fit in our grasp of hands, is the dream of thousands of people. But being small is not that bad at all, seriously. While we are still kid, we tend to respect the quality of space even more. How tiring it is to walk from end to end of an aisle, how hard to press the light switch that is on the wall, and how fun it is to see the ceiling just like we see the endless end of the sky, so hard to reach. bubble space is dynamic. The size changes not only affected by the proportion of human physical, but also the activity that enrolls in it. They who mediate need a bubble space that is, bigger, compared to those who do taichi, or even nothing. What would happen if the space that dwells this bubble space is also changing? Will the quality of bubble space in different dimension of space is identical? Or is it the dinamicity of bubble space is, unexpectedly affected by the scale of human to the space? when we become small, is our interpretation of bubble space still be the same?

silent meditation cabin for 1 person group project | DA 1 August 18 - October 18

out of many trees, what if it is actually possible to have a silent conversation with only one tree at a time, creating a peace of mind, stepping up the quality of silent meditation.

INITIAL IDEAS imagine a serene place that connects small, tiny human scale to the massive scale of trees.

Delivering one human to have an awaited private reunion with a tree.

INTERVENTION OF SPACE - FOREST intervening the vertically dominant line of trees by putting a length of charred wood facing a single tree that rises up to the tree canopy. Not to standout but still respect and create a unique relationship with the vegetation and environment. rising geometry compromises an imaginary line that can be drawn from the size of an average human to the topmost of a tree. Slightly bending the form to put in a surprise element into the journey, wondering what is there waiting at the end of the hall.

BUILDING EXPRESSION the cabin is massive but light, transparent facade on knee level to create an illusion of levitation and a new interpretation of semi private space.

Contrast but still calm, raising the highest point of the cabin to penetrate the horizontal line of leaves.

SEQUENCES the unusual experience of walking from a small intimidating opening, very enclosed, progressing into broader expanse and opening that evokes the scale of tree, barely enclosed. The user has to crouch for the first several metres from entering the cabin, and later straightening their knees as the sequence leading to the other end. Focusing one tree to be the goal of one’s journey from the intimidation of human bubble space which later turn into a relief through spatial experience.

PROGRAM – MEDITATION the plan is to create a private session between exactly one human and one tree. Remembering the context, the cabin is not going to directly seclude a tree from its surrounding, but more into utilizing the form so it leads into one tree Submission panel for Silent Meditation Competition
