Sicily’s central location in the Mediterranean has made it the hub of cultural influences, integral to the island’s identity. Our camp aims to play with the idea of Sicily as an island of convergence and experimentation using food as impetus. The Round Table camp uses culinary practice to explore Sicily’s rich background and encourage cultural exchange. The camp inspires students to broaden their culinary awareness and motivate creativity.

The purpose of this research university is to create an agricultural urbanism, producing environmental solutions and practices that respond to various microclimates across political boundaries. Alongside the NASA, the university proposes speculative strategies for a productive, shared landscape. The driving strategy is pixel farming, a technique of planting small plots of various crops in adjacency to achieve maximum productivity whilst increasing biodiversity.

PRODUCTIVE LANDSCAPE

The pixel farming landscape is organized by a terrace system, categorizing crops as perennial, annual, and seasonal. Each level receives individual treatment through the integration of NASA technologies: satellites, drones, rovers, and researchers.

CAMPUS BY PIXEL | 17

PRODUCTIVE COHABITATION

The idea of productive adjacency is applied to the university at large -- both in agriculture and in program. Dissolving the campus ground allows for maximum adjacencies and performs as a new social landscape that integrates students, locals, and non human technologies.

The program and vessel mission is to combat climate change and extreme weather conditions through naturally reinforcing the atoll barrier and collecting fresh rainwater. The facility houses the mangrove nursery and the vessels work to transport the mangroves around the island perimeter. Formally inspired by mangrove reeds, we created a system of columns that perform as structure, freshwater collectors, and invite ecological integration.

DUEL ACTION

The network of columns are an extension of the roof surface. The sloped shape funnels fresh rainwater to the collection tank below, which acts as a fresh water reserve for the island. Secondly, the ocean-facing coves provide protected growing space for seeding mangroves. Matured mangroves can then be embedded around the atoll perimeter, to gradually build a natural barrier against rising sea levels.

Located in the Rahma Edible Food Garden, the greenhouse intertwines program and garden. To dissolve notions of interior and exterior, the greenhouse gardens fill the majority of the perimeter and nest program within. The undulating perimeter creates a playful interface and select faces protrude outward, inviting direct contact with the exterior garden. Embedded in the greenhouse, the kitchen classroom enjoys direct access to fresh produce and creates a communal space to educate and celebrate.

This project features a humble residences for two in the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York. The stacked cubic design fits compact program, integrates a natural water system, and utilizes a variety of materials. The materiality both emphasizes the home’s kit-of-parts and maximizes the home’s thermal qualities.
