"Engaging Translation: Questions of Language and Power in Arizona and Beyond” is a two-day conference (November 12-13, 2021) that will provide an opportunity for translation professionals and scholars to engage in dialogue about the theory and practice of translation and interpretation broadly conceived.
We will explore how questions of power and status emerge in translation and interpretation, as experienced in everyday life situations (in educational, legal and medical contexts, among others) and the analysis of texts. Participants will be academics and professionals, such as translators, interpreters, trainers and managers from ASU, the Phoenix area, Arizona and national and international institutions. Together we will examine issues related to education, cultural resource management, public health, health care, social work, city and state government, law and planning.
