Formal sorority recruitment is a structured process where potential new members (PNMs) visit various sororities to learn about their values, culture, and sisterhood. At Arizona State University, the process takes place over several days, involving a series of rounds where PNMs interact with current members, participate in activities, and attend informational sessions. The goal is to find a sorority that aligns with the PNM’s interests and values. At the end of recruitment, PNMs receive "bids" from sororities, inviting them to join. It’s an exciting process that emphasizes mutual selection, with both the sororities and PNMs choosing where they feel the best fit!
Legacy: potential new member who is the sister, daughter, or granddaughter of an alumnae sorority member
National Panhellenic Conference (NPC): a conference body composed of 26 national women's fraternities, each of which is autonomous as a social, Greek-letter society of college women undergraduates and alumnae
New Member: a person who has accepted an invitation to join a chapter and has not yet been initiated
Panhellenic Council: a cooperative campus organization of collegiate members of NPC sororities
Potential New Member (PNM): a woman interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority
Recruitment: a designated membership recruitment period during which a series of organized events are held by each NPC sorority, organized by the Panhellenic Council
Rho Gamma/ Recruitment Counselor: a Panhellenic sorority member who has disaffiliated from her chapter during formal recruitment and is specifically trained to help Potential New Members and answer any questions they may have about sorority recruitment
Bid: an official invitation to join a sorority.
Mutual Selection Process: how both potential new members (PNMs) and sororities make choices during recruitment.

A sorority is a social organization for women, typically at a college or university, that fosters friendship, leadership, and personal growth. Members participate in philanthropic events, social activities, and leadership development opportunities. Sororities often provide a supportive community and lifelong connections through their alumni networks. They are a key part of Greek life on many campuses, promoting values of sisterhood, service, and academic achievement.
Panhellenic sororities volunteer every year to welcome new students to ASU. We hope to see you at events such as Greek Block Party, Taylor Fest, and Panhellenic Preview.
Family Weekend provides you with a great opportunity to introduce your family to your new college life and sorority sisters. Fraternity and Sorority Life will host several events throughout the weekend, and sorority and fraternities often partner together to host a variety of events for their families
Homecoming is an exciting time for both current Sun Devils and alumni as they return to their alma mater to show their Sun Devil spirit. Many Greeks participate in the University-sponsored festivities as volunteers and spectators. There are also competitions among the organizations to show the campus which organization has the most school spirit! Many sororities plan alumnae events, offering a great time for sorority women to reconnect with alumnae and celebrate being Greek!
Greek Week is an annual spring semester tradition that unites all Greeks to promote community pride while engaging in meaningful community service and fun team building events. Sororities and fraternities partner together on teams to compete in activities such as a trivia bowl, athletic competitions, and a community service event.
The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing body for the culturally based fraternities and sororities at Arizona State University. Through MGC's programming efforts, they encourage scholastic achievement among its individuals and organizations, provide a forum for discussion and to develop action strategies regarding issues relevant to the MGC community, coordinate semester activities and service related events to promote cooperation and harmony among member organizations, and strive to promote cultural awareness.

“We, as undergraduate members of women's fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities.
We, as fraternity women, stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.”
Trust your gut throughout the whole process! Recruitment is a time to get to know all the chapters but also to get to know yourself and what you are truly looking for. I recommend writing down or documenting how you feel during recruitment because it all goes by so fast! Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to reach out to your rho gams, they are here for you and have been through the same process! I can’t wait for you to our home in Panhellenic!

Joining a Panhellenic sisterhood means building lifelong friendships and creating a home away from home. The bond you share with your sisters will bring joy, support, and companionship through life's highs and lows. More than just wearing the same Greek letters, sisterhood offers a sense of belonging and cherished moments of laughter and connection.
Academic achievement is a priority for Panhellenic sororities, and while there is no GPA requirement to participate in recruitment, each chapter sets its own standards, typically around a 2.8 GPA. Lower GPAs may reduce membership opportunities, so it’s encouraged to ask about requirements during recruitment. Sororities offer academic support through study hours, time management resources, tutoring, and scholarship opportunities. With permission, ASU will verify GPA, enrollment status, and credit hours for all Potential New Members.

Sororities offer countless opportunities to give back to the community, fostering a spirit of service and philanthropy. In 2023, the fraternity and sorority community raised over $616,941 for charitable causes. Chapters host events to support their national philanthropies, bringing members together to make a positive impact.
Ld h
Sororities offer numerous leadership opportunities, from serving as chapter officers to joining event planning committees. Members are also encouraged to get involved in campus organizations like Undergraduate Student Government, ASU Athletics, and honor societies. Balancing academics and extracurriculars fosters personal growth, leadership development, and a well-rounded college experience.
Panhellenic sorority women contribute so much to the ASU campus and surrounding community. ASU Greek Life completed nearly 33,000 hours of community service during the 2023 calendar year. This service was completed through individual and group community service projects at local volunteer programs such as The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club of America, Feed My Starving Children, and many more.

Potential New Members must attend all academic classes and labs during recruitment for the duration of scheduled time.
PNMs are expected to attend all of their scheduled recruitment events throughout the duration of recruitment. PNMs may request excused absences before recruitment events occur. Otherwise, failure to communicate an explanation for recruitment absences by 12:00 PM the day of the absence may result in dismissal from recruitment. Reasons for absence can be submitted to Recruitment Counselors or directly to the Panhellenic Council.
Panhellenic Recruitment is an alcohol and substance free process. Potential New Members found under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances during recruitment activities can be dismissed from recruitment.
All participants in Panhellenic Recruitment understand the National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements which can be found on the Panhellenic Council website.
We strive to foster a safe and healthy environment for both chapter members and Potential New Members. Engaging in disrespectful behavior will result in the student’s immediate dismissal from recruitment.
An invitation to join, also known as a bid, binds a Potential New Member once she signs a MRABA. If a Potential New Member declines an invitation from a group on her MRABA, she is not eligible to pledge another sorority until the next primary recruitment period. A bid is binding for a sorority when a woman has been formally pledged by her sorority.
Sorority Members are not allowed to take Potential New Members to any campus events, fraternity events, church, and/or private party.
Once Primary Recruitment has started, contact outside of primary recruitment events between a PNM and sorority member is limited to formal, friendly contact. Unacceptable contact between sorority members and PNMs would include: face-to-face visits, phone calls, social media messaging, attending events together, or written communication.
Gifts or any types of favors are not to be exchanged between a PNM and/or sorority or sorority member at any time during the recruitment period.
Active members are not allowed to say “I can’t wait to see you back tomorrow”, “I’ll see you tomorrow”, “I want you as my little”, “Wear this on bid day”, "We love you", "We will COB you," and other comments that promise bids.
Active Members and Potential New Members are not permitted to shake hands during any recruitment activities
If any of these things happen to you between now and bid day, please notify your Rho Gamma. You will not get in trouble for reporting violations of the Recruitment Rules, but we want to keep our chapters accountable!
When it comes to sorority recruitment, GPA is definitely important, but it’s not the endall, be-all. Your academic record gives chapters a sense of your commitment and time management skills, and many organizations do have minimum GPA requirements to stay in good standing. That said, recruitment is about the whole person, your character, involvement, values, and how well you connect with the chapter matter just as much (if not more!).
Below is a helpful guide on GPA expectations to give you a clearer picture of what to expect during the process. Although there is no GPA requirement, it is taken into consideration when granting a bid.
If you want to explain to chapters why your GPA is at certain point, please ask your Rho Gamma for the GPA Explanation Form.
Yours options are very likely to be limited based on your GPA. Your options may be limited based on your GPA. Your options are not likely to be limited based on your GPA.

At the completion of the primary recruitment period, all women are given the option to sign a membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement (MRABA). In order to receive a bid from a sorority on campus, an MRABA must be signed. The MRABA is used on every campus that has NPC member organizations.
By signing this document, you agree that you are willing to accept a bid for membership from any sorority that you rank on the MRABA.
If you receive a bid from a sorority that you ranked on your MRABA, you are bound to that group for one calendar year (August 2025 to August 2026). If you receive a bid from any of the sororities that you have listed on your MRABA, and you choose not to accept it, you are NOT eligible to participate in Continuous Open Bidding (COB) in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
After your last event on Preference day, you will go into preference selection to sign the MRABA and rank the chapter(s) you visited. Please note that once your MRABA has been signed and your rankings submitted, it cannot be altered or changed.
Before signing the MRABA, you have options to carefully consider. We encourage to understand these before you finalize your decision.
Withdraw from recruitment and remain eligible for COB Rank and list sororities you are willing to accept bids from.
You may choose to limit your choices to just one sorority whose preference round event you attend and you are willing to accept an invitation to membership. You must understand that if you chose to single intentional preference (SIP), that you are not guaranteed to receive a bid for membership. PNMS that maximize their options and list all chapters for event that they attended during preference will receive a bid for membership during Primary Recruitment.
Your Recruitment Counselors (Rho Gammas) are there for you if you need advice or simply a friend to talk to! They will be available at all times during recruitment to hang out and talk with you if you need anything.
If you have questions about recruitment, your Rho Gamma is the first person you should contact. They should be reaching out and introducing themselves after you sign up and before recruitment begins.
You will be contacted by your Recruitment Counselor each day before rounds begin to find out what chapters you will be going to throughout recruitment.
If you have a scheduling conflict with recruitment, you need to let your Rho Gamma know so that she can fill out a schedule change form!
If you have an emergency during recruitment, immediately reach out to your Rho Gamma and they will help you!
What are the benefits of being in a fraternity or sorority?
There are many benefits of being in a fraternity or sorority These benefits include, but are not limited to the following: leadership experiences (officer positions and conferences), academic support, friendships, mentorships, intramurals and team sports, community service, alumni networking, wider range of resources and connections on campus, lifelong memories, philanthropic involvement, time management, life skills development, and the potential to receive various scholarships.
Am I guaranteed a bid?
Recruitment/intake is a mutual selection process, so while you are looking for an organization that is best for you, chapters are determining who they think will be best for the organization, so unfortunately, bids are not guaranteed
Can I join as a first-semester freshman?
It depends on the organization, but most can be joined by firstyear students. While firstsemester students are permitted to join organizations their first semester and many do, some students chose to wait a semester or more before joining an organization. Joining a fraternity or sorority is an individual decision and students should look to start the fraternity or sorority experience when they are ready.
Will fraternity/sorority life interfere with my academics?
Academic achievement is your primary responsibility while at ASU. In addition to minimum GPA requirements, most chapters have an academic officer and a faculty advisor whose responsibilities include assisting members in achieving their academic goals and monitoring their academic progress If necessary, they also help connect members with academic resources such as tutoring or mentoring to help members who are not meeting expectations Many chapters also reward members for excelling in the classroom with discounted dues and scholarships.
If I join, how committed am I and for how long?
A strong benefit of fraternities and sororities are the relationships and connections to the fraternity/sorority are life-long. Unlike a student organization that you may choose to be a part of one semester and leave the next, fraternities and sororities do not have simple processes for removing membership, however, each organization does have a process should the need arise.
What is the new member process?
The new member process, sometimes referred to as pledging or associate member process, consists of a defined period of time (typically between four-eight weeks) where new members meet brothers/sisters in the fraternity/sorority, learn about the history and values of the chapter and community, participate in service and philanthropy events, and social activities . After completing the new member process, new members are initiated into the organization.
If I join a fraternity or sorority, can I join any other clubs?
Fraternity and sorority members are very involved in other clubs and organizations across campus and in the community In fact, many chapters expect members to be involved in at least one organization outside of the fraternity or sorority Many of the leaders of Undergraduate Student Government, Residence Hall Association, Programming and Activities Board, and other major student organizations are members of fraternities and sororities.
A popular but important question to ask during the recruitment/intake process –the time commitment varies based upon the expectations of each organization. The amount of time a member wants to commit to the chapter is also a testament to how much the member wants to get out or contribute to the chapter. Many chapters would minimally expect members to be present for a weekly chapter meeting and a weekly chapter event (brotherhood/sisterhood, dinner, fundraiser, educational speaker, etc.), so two-four hours a week.
How will I know which group is right for me?
In order to choose a chapter that is right for you, you should do some preliminary research about each organization before recruitment Then you should participate in recruitment. The recruitment process will allow you and the chapters to decide on the best fit. As you go through the process, be sure to keep an open mind, take notes after events, and be yourself

I am an ASU Online student, can I join?
ASU Online students are enrolled ASU students, therefore eligible to be a member of a fraternity or sorority. If an ASU Online student is not in the immediate area, the distance may prove difficult for recruitment or membership expectations for the fraternity or sorority (ie attendance requirements for brotherhood/sisterhoods, chapter meetings, chapter ceremonies and rituals, etc )
Do I need to go to all of the events listed on my recruitment schedule?
Yes! The objective of recruitment is for you to learn as much as you can about our Panhellenic community at ASU and each of our chapters. Going to all of your events will help you make a decision regarding membership. If you intentionally miss an event you were invited to, you are not maximizing your options and could be released from the recruitment process.
If I participate in Primary recruitment, am I obligated to join a sorority?
Potential New Members who choose to participate in recruitment are not obligated to join a sorority. The recruitment process gives women interested in sorority membership the opportunity to explore Greek life and see if it is the right fit.
What if I only want to be in a certain sorority?
Will all participants JOIN a sorority at the end of recruitment?
Because recruitment is a mutual selection process, there are many different outcomes to this process Participation in Primary Recruitment does NOT guarantee you an invitation to join a sorority, and it is possible to go through recruitment and not pledge a sorority.
What is the minimum GPA requirement?
The required GPA varies for each chapter and each governing council. If you are concerned that your high school GPA, or for current ASU students your college GPA, may not be sufficient, ask during the recruitment/intake process if you meet the minimum requirements.
Only wanting to be a member of one specific sorority, or only considering a few sororities, can severely limit a PNM's options for membership and can lead to disappointment. Please do not choose a sorority based on stereotypes or others' opinion's. We encourage you to keep an open mind about the chapters and make a decision that is best for you.
I’m a graduate student at ASU, can I join?
Graduate students interested in pursuing membership in a Greek-letter organization should research the national organization they are interested in to see what the possibility of graduate membership may be. Some chapters and councils allow for graduate members and others do not For questions about a specific organization, refer to that organization’s (inter)national website The National Panhellenic council does not allow Graduate students to join.
Your experience during recruitment as a new sorority woman should never involve activities that make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.
Arizona State University does not tolerate hazing in any form, and therefore it is strictly prohibited. Additionally, hazing is a violation of all national fraternity and sorority policies, the Arizona Board of Regents Student Code of Conduct, and is a violation of state and federal law. All ASU students are expected to follow the ABOR Student Code of Conduct.
For more information, contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life or the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
If you are concerned that you or a student is being hazed within their organization, please call the ASU Fraternity and Sorority Life Hotline: 480-884-0346

What is your favorite thing about being in a sorority?
How have your sisters supported you in this chapter?
How does your sorority support and promote diversity and inclusion?
What is the time commitment like?
What activities do you participate in throughout the year?
How does your chapter support your philanthropy?
What are the financial commitments?
What leadership opportunities are there?
What is it like being a full time student and being in a sorority at the same time?
What is your favorite memory from being in this chapter?
What events do you host
What is it like living in th the ne?
How did you feel attending this chapter's event? Excited? Welcomed? Do you your values align well with the values of the chapter?
What is your first impression of this chapter? Has your initial opinion changed throughout the experience? How was your experience in the chapter similar or different to what you previously envisioned?
How can you be an asset to this chapter? How can this chapter be an asset to you?
What do you think you will gain from this chapter?
Do not set your heart on one sorority at any time throughout the week. Being open-minded will help you be more successful throughout the process. Take notes throughout the recruitment week, they will be helpful on preference.
Keep an open mind and get to know each sorority beneath their appearances (i.e. material aspects such as furniture, décor, or apparel)
Do not let others decision influence your own. The sorority that was right for your mother, sister, or best friend may not be right for you. Do not listen to rumors. Do not be afraid to let financial considerations be your final deciding factor. There are scholarships that many organizations provide for financial assistance.
Be authentically you.
It is vital to make sure you are treating yourself with kindness during recruitment! The weather can be intense and it's important to hydrate properly and fuel yourself in ways that will set you up for success.
Here are some ways you can do that!
Drink PLENTY of water- remember coffee is not a replacement for water nor food!
Need a quick snack or lunch? Check these restaurants out that are nearby:
Next to the GLV: Ahi Poke
Taco Boys
Two Hands
Board & Brew
Halal Guys
On Campus: Starbucks
Subway
Jimmy Johns
Chick-fil-a
Einstein Bros
Pei Wei
Shake Smart
Jamba Juice
Engrained
Snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, and apple sauce can be a good way to quickly refuel before visiting a chapter as well!
This slide is an additional way to showcase a little about yourself.
It should include pictures of yourself and small fun facts about yourself It must be only on page and must be less than 1MB in size and in one of the following allowable formats: gif, jpg, jpeg, or png.
This is not required in order to register or partcipate in recruitment. This is just a bonus item to highlight yourself!!
Single Intentional Preference is when a PNM attends more than one Preference Round event but only lists one choice on her Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement. This is strongly discouraged as your chances of joining are severely limited and dramatically decreased.
If through this process, you realize that sorority life is not for you, we understand.
Please talk to any Rho Gamma about a Withdrawal Form, and complete that in its entirety. Please be honest in your answers on that form, as it will help us improve the recruitment experience and better understand your choice to withdraw from recruitment. There are also other opportunities to join our Panhellenic community throughout the academic year. If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities, please indicate that on your withdrawal form and speak with your Rho Gamma.
"COB" is short for Continuous Open Bidding, a form of informal recruitment that sorority chapters can participate in at any time outside of primary recruitment which ASU hosts in the Fall. COB can occur after primary recruitment and in the Spring Semester. Not every sorority on campus will participate in COB.
The Continuous Open Bidding process is much more laid back and you get to interact with the members in a comfortable environment.
These informal events will look different for each organization. Sorority chapters might host a game night, coffee date, roller skating, bowling, movie night or similar types of events. COB events are designed to be less structured than primary recruitment, which can allow you to speak with more chapter members.
Typically a small number of sororities may be able to recruitment a limited number of women through the COB process after Primary Recruitment, if their chapter is below the campus total. This opportunity is not always guaranteed.
There is also an opportunity to participate in COB in the Spring. Panhellenic hosts a Spring Sorority Showcase in January for PNMs to know what groups are participating in COB for the Spring Term.
Take notes! Write down things you liked or didn't like about each chapter right after each round on paper or in your phone, which will help you when you reflect on all the chapters you visited each day. Record names of women you talked to, what you talked about, notable characteristics of each chapter, and anything else you want to remember.
Be positive and polite.
Look at the sorority as a whole. Don't judge the entire chapter by one woman.
Ask questions! It will help the conversation run smoothly and show a sign of interest.
Be mature in your decision making.
Be realistic about the members with whom you feel the most comfortable.
Do not interpret any remark made at an event as assurance of a bid - one individual member has no way of determining these things.
Make sure to get plenty of rest, drink LOTS of water, and eat before and throughout the day. Recruitment is a long process and you will want to be your very best self. Coffee is not a meal replacement!
Remember to make your own decisions! If you have any questions, feelings, or confusion that you want to discuss, go to your Rho Gamma! She is there for you and wants to help you throughout the process.
Become friends with the women in your recruitment group. Some of them could end up being your sisters and if not, it's always nice to see a familiar face around campus.
Bring shoes to change into while you're walking from chapter to chapter. You will not want to wear those brand new heels for eight hours on a hot August day.
Smile! Have a great time, meet as many people as possible, and enjoy the experience to the
a t t o w e a r
Wear what you will be most comfortable in. This could be as simple as a t-shirt, shorts and sneakers. You'll only be watching chapter videos with your Rho Gamma groups.
Think family party; sun dress, rompers, jumpsuits, blouses, pants and skirts. For shoes: sandals, wedges, heels or flats.
You will be provided a tshirt to wear during the Philanthropy round. Ideas to pair with the shirt could be jeans, skirts, shorts, or any other fun bottoms you may have! For shoes, we recommend sandals or sneakers.
This is the most formal round for attire in recruitment - think semi-formal, graduation or a wedding. Dresses, jumpsuits, blazers, blouses, pants or skirts are examples. Sandals, wedges, heels or flats are good shoe options as well.
Bestday!
Lightweight shirt or tank top, shorts and sneakers. The house you receive a bid from will provide a shirt for you to wear once you run home! You will not need anything other than yourself on bid day, but feel free to bring a small purse with your every day essentials!
Phone charger
Hair tie
Hairbrush
Bobbypins
Band-Aids
Mints
Pen
Feminine Hygeine
Products
Make up Wipes
Oil blotting sheets
Comfy shoes
Deodrant
Water Mini-fan
Totebag
Water bottle
Snacks
Homework
There may be long periods of time in your schedule, so bring something to help keep you occupied such as a book, homework, etc.
You won't be allowed to take anything into your recruitment events. Leave your nice purse or bag in your room. The bag you will bring will be outside of the room while you attend events or at your assigned waiting area with the Recruitment Counselors. Keep that in mind when deciding on what bag to bring with you during recruitment.
Joining a chapter comes with a financial requirement. You and your family should be aware of dues, fees, and other expenses before joining.
The first semester is usually the most expensive, as most of the one-time new member fees occur then. Your investment during your collegiate years provides you with organization membership for a lifetime. Each chapter has dues that cover sisterhood and educational programming activities, philanthropic event participation, social events, merchandise, and sometimes travel to regional or national leadership opportunities.
Be sure to review the chapter finance guide, ask questions about financial obligations, and what chapter dues cover before and during recruitment. Do not let dues impact your decision making as many offer scholarships and have payment plans to make it an affordable experience. New Members will only be required to pay New Member Dues their first semester.
The Greek Leadership Village (GLV) is a student-led project that provides the ASU Fraternity & Sorority community with meeting spaces, council offices, retail space, and housing facilities to support their leadership, growth, and development for years to come.
The Village is located on campus on the southeast corner of Rural and Lemon off of Terrace Road. There are 12 sorority chapters at ASU with facilities in the GLV. Many of our chapters also maintain live-in policies as part of their organization's standing rules - be sure to ask about these policies and other housing questions during recruitment.

Congratulations on your student's decision to participate in ASU's 2025 Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment! They're about to begin an experience that will be full of activities and opportunities as they make new friends, create memories, and build connections on campus. They may have heard stories about some or each of the chapters, be a legacy to a sorority, or have made the decision with a best friend to join the same sorority no matter what. These situations have the potential for creating disappointment, so please let them know the importance of making decisions based on the women they meet and the conversations they have in each sorority chapter.
A recruitment participant will be the one living with the members for the next few years, and gaining sisters for life, so they should look for women they find connections with, and a place they feel comfortable.
Sororities require a financial, time, and housing commitment. Each chapter has their dues listed within this booklet. While listed, your student should still ask each sorority about these financial obligations. Though being a member of a sorority does involve a time commitment, many of our sorority women are able to maintain employment and internships, be involved in extracurricular activities, and still have an amazing sorority experience.
