Master of Advanced Study in health informatics The Master of Advanced Study in health informatics program teaches health professionals how to effectively transfer data into knowledge — with a goal of providing better health care. MAS in health informatics program Fifteen credit hours of core courses, 12 credit hours of electives and three credits for an applied project teach you the knowledge necessary for a competitive edge in a growing field.

Featured courses BMI 515 Applied Biostatistics in Medicine and Informatics Understand the statistical methods used most often to analyze quantitative data collected in medical and biomedical informatics studies, including clinical trials and epidemiologic studies. Learn to use SAS statistical software to analyze biomedical data.

BMI 598 Population Health Management and Analysis Review the population health landscape and programs in private and public sectors. Identify unique populations for interventions, create programs to target those populations and develop a practical approach to analyze the financial and clinical outcomes.

BMI 613 Workflow Analysis and Redesign in Health Systems Engineering Learn about workflow analysis and process redesign and their use in quality improvement activities, including specification. Link systems engineering to fundamentals of decision theory, statistics and optimization.

BMI 616 Clinical Decision Support and Evidence-Based Medicine Focus on the major problems of human decision-making in health care, including causes of errors, decreased quality and increased costs. Explore the role of information technology, primarily through computer-based clinical decision support (CDS), to address these problems. Examine the capabilities and limitations of current CDS approaches. Conduct a systematic review and a meta-analysis to draw conclusions and formulate health policy.

Culminating experience Finish your studies by putting your knowledge to use with an applied project. With the guidance of faculty, you undertake this final effort to complete your degree, implementing what you’ve learned in your own unique way.

BMI 601 Health Informatics Get an overview of the field of health informatics. Combining perspectives from medicine and computer science, you will see how both are used in health care and the health sciences. Build your health information literacy and learn specific applications and general methodology in health informatics.

BMI 603 Health Informatics Database Modeling and Applications Understand the foundations of database systems and their specific use in health care and biomedical environments. Explore database models and architecture, database design, SQL, XML and data warehousing use in clinical domains.
