visit to Astrid Lindgren’s Näs will take you closer to our most popular female author. Go on a guided tour of the childhood home, see the exhibition about Astrid Lindgren’s life, enjoy the gardens and be inspired by art and creative rooms. “Let’s start from the beginning – November 1907, that’s when I was born – in an old red house surrounded by apple trees, the second child of farmer Samuel August Ericsson and his wife Hanna Ericsson, née Jonsson. The farm where we lived was – and still is – called Näs and is close to the small Småland town of Vimmerby.” “In the red house, which was a vicarage in the 18th century but later became a tenant’s residence, two more children were born. So, we were four siblings, Gunnar, Astrid, Stina and Ingegerd, who lived a happy Noisy Village life at Näs, pretty much like the children in the books about Noisy Village.”

– astrid lindgren – from Mitt Småland

On 29 June, we are opening the exhibition En lycklig ö – 30 år av ord och bild (A happy island – 30 years of words and pictures) with the illustrator and author Marit Törnqvist. The exhibition spans time and space and looks at the power of story and Marit’s unique relationship with Astrid Lindgren. The exhibition will run 29 June – 3 November in the Vicarage.
