Founded by a passionate team of four local owners, MÖV isn’t just about breaking a sweat it’s about building community, nurturing balance, and embracing the full spectrum of self-care.

From dynamic barre and hot yoga sessions to outdoor summer classes at Hidden Beach, and a full-service café and boutique, MÖV is redefining the local fitness experience with purpose, creativity, and soul.

MÖV With Meaning: How One Studio Created a Home for Wellness & Community Myself, Latricia Askew, and 3 other owners- Steph Lund, Steve Mohn, and Michelle Fries- opened MÖV Hot Yoga in May of 2024 after rebranding from a previous yoga studio chain.

We wanted to create a space that was welcoming, accepting, warm, and community-driven and I think we’ve done that. MÖV Hot Yoga and MÖV Marketplace Cafe is a place to MÖV with purpose and connect with others through mindfulness and healthy practices.

Fitness Meets Lifestyle: Why MÖV Is More Than Just Hot Yoga One of the gifts of our business is that we are a wellness destination.

We have over 7,000 square feet of space which include a cafe marketplace with incredible, healthy food, smoothies, coffees, and beverages, a hot yoga studio that can hold 51 participants, a roomtemperature studio space for barre, Pilates, and other offerings, a community tea area, and expansive locker rooms with showers and lockers.

We are SO proud of our space. It’s beautifully designed and speaks to our goal of connecting people to each other in a warm, inviting environment.

Are there any special programs tailored for this time of year?

I love this question! We encourage our students to create a habitual yoga practice that spans the seasons so we continue to see strong class attendance even into the summer months. At the same time, we understand the desire to soak up the magical Minnesota summer and spend some time outside too!

We partner with the city of Minneapolis and the Kenwood Park Board to offer outdoor classes at Hidden Beach. We also have some student-led cycling and running meet-up groups that are being planned as we speak. We also plan to offer several options in our room temperature barre room such as MÖV Fit with Weights, Mat Pilates, and Yoga and Chanting and meditation in case folks would like a break from the heat.

Any new classes, workshops, or events planned this summer that people should be rolling their mats out for?

Yes! We are partnering with the Blizzard’s Ski organization for a series of Barre + Yoga classes that will launch in July on Wednesday evenings, geared towards skiers and snowboarders. These classes will help build strength and flexibility in the offseason and prepare the body for a strong winter-sport season ahead.

We also have plans for MÖV Fit with Weights in June, July, and August, pop-up Mat Pilates classes, and a yoga + chanting + meditation class in July. We also offer regular 90-minute sound baths and our students just soak them up!

Your team is stacked with incredible instructors. What kind of culture have you cultivated behind the scenes, and how does that energy come through in class?

Thank you! We are really proud of our teachers too.

Honestly, we give our teachers a framework for classes so that there is a semblance of consistency amongst the classes AND- at the same time- we allow our instructors to create their classes from their point of view so that things do not seem cookie-cutter. Each teacher has their own energy, their own voice, their own experience, and we want students to have the ability to experience humans, not robots.

We give our teachers a lot of autonomy but we also have a culture of feedback so that we can help each other grow. We offer regular teacher intensives to our instructors in barre, vinyasa flow, our classic series, and in hand-on assisting so that we are constantly learning too. I also think it’s helpful that we are a collective of instructors trained by diverse lineages. Each class is unique- as is each teacher and each student.

“My main mission is to connect local Yelpers - foodies, adventurers, local business supporters - with awesome local businesses they can support. “One of our most beloved Yelp Events is a state fair preview event in May each year! We partner with the state fair team and other local business food vendors to get a taste of the fair, hear the stories behind the food these local partners have made into fair staples.”

From Screen to Plate What if you could taste the moments that made you fall in love with a film? That’s exactly what Taste the Movies delivers, a multi-course, cinematic dining experience where storylines are plated, and popcorn is just the prologue. Born from one foodie’s love for storytelling through both screen and skillet, this concept turns iconic scenes into unforgettable bites. From Kevin’s mac and cheese in Home Alone to a cocktail conjured from Shrek’s swamp, each dish is a love letter to the movies we grew up with. With seasonal themes, cult classics, and a community that shows up in costume, this isn’t just dinner and a movie, it’s nostalgia served hot.

Screen Cravings to Culinary Creations Taste the Movies was born from my deep love for storytelling, both through food and film.

The inspiration sparked while watching a movie and realizing how powerful it was to feel a dish through a screen. I wanted to flip that and let guests taste the scenes they love. It started as a date night idea and turned into a full-blown immersive experience that connects people to the movies they grew up with, one bite at a time.

Flavors Framed by Film We design our menus like a script! Starting with opening a glass of champagne and unlimited popcorn, we open the movie with two rounds of bites, followed by a main course, and a dessert.

We also served themed cocktails inspired by scenes throughout the film. It’s all about key scenes that either show food on screen or evoke a strong mood or setting.

Sometimes it’s literal (like Kevin’s mac and cheese in Home Alone) and sometimes it’s symbolic (like a dish that captures the chaos of Shrek’s swamp). Every course has a purpose, and the goal is to make people feel like they’re dining inside the film.

More Than a Meal, A Local Sensation “The response has been incredible. People show up dressed as characters, bring their kids, or make it a date night. We've hosted thousands of guests, and the love from the Twin Cities has fueled everything! From expanding our themes to bringing in live performers and musicians. It’s become more than dinner and a movie, it’s an experience people plan their seasons around.”

The Next Act: Taste the Movies Heats Up If someone’s never been to Taste the Movies, how would you describe it in one line?

A multi-course immersive dinner where you don’t just watch the movie...you taste it.

This year’s Taste of Minnesota is bringing the heat, literally and figuratively. Where the Coffee’s Strong and the Cat’s Set the Rules Inside Tucked between campuses and cozy couches, Catzen Coffee isn’t just serving up locally roasted lattes, it’s brewing community, calm and the occasional case of “Tim Time.”

What began as one woman’s dream to create a peaceful neighborhood retreat has become a feline-forward haven where every whisker has a backstory and every cup comes with a dose of comfort.

Step inside this living room-inspired escape where the cats are in charge, the coffee is housecrafted, and the vibe is always purr-fectly intentional.

What inspired you to start Catzen Coffee? Was there a particular moment, personal story, or cat that sparked the idea?

I've always thought about starting a small business of my own and had reached a point where it was possible for me to start thinking about. I have the philosophy that small changes in the world around you can sometimes be the most you can do when the big problems of the world seem insurmountable. So I wanted to do something to improve my neighborhood, where I have lived with my family for 20+ years. I stepped back and looked around, and in the middle of three campuses, what seemed to be missing was a third space with really good coffee.

When I was younger, there were a variety of lovely comfy coffee shops in this area to hang out in. Now that the chain coffee shops have moved more and more to a conveyer-belt, impersonal business model, I really wanted to bring back a place with excellent coffee but also something that felt welcoming and homelike to just find a moment of peace. I feel like the world is so stressful and we need a place to go a just be, to get away for a minute, and to turn it all off.

The spark that brought me to Catzen was when two college women from across the street of our house stopped one day and asked if they could play with our dogs because they missed theirs at home. And it occurred to me, that having cats to just hang out with would be relaxing and comforting. And I realized that if I had a business, it would have to be a place I wanted to go every day since I would be spending all my time there. The end result was that I built the kind of place I would go do, hoping that others would also enjoy it. My inspiration was my living room growing up: a fireplace, lots of books, some old games, comfy chairs, and of course, cats. I grew up with cats and have always been a huge cat lover.

How many cats currently live at Catzen Coffee?

We have 10 cats who live here. One of our cats, Babybel Mozarella, is our office cat and lives in our basement office. We rescued him from the Humane Society, and he gets a bit stressed around the other cats, so he is happy down in our office.

Could you share their names and a little bit about each of their personalities?

Big Cuppa Joe, aka Big Joe, is our "den mother." He is a huge Maine Coon; he loves to be around people in the living room. He keeps all the other cats in line, grooms them, and looks out for them. His favorite spot to sleep is the hammock just inside the door so everyone can say hi to him when they come and go.

Tim the Enchanter is our Lykoi cat; he's a spaz who loves people on his terms. When he decides he wants attention, he climbs up in a lap and shoves his face up into people. We call that "Tim Time" and if a customer gets Tim Time they also get a special sticker to take home that says, "I got Tim Time today!" Letti and Bean are sibling that were rescued together; they are sweet gentle black cats. Boudica is our Scottish Fold; she is a little princess but is very shy. She really only comes upstairs occasionally, and customers sometimes come specifically to get a glimpse of her. Halloween Blizzard of '91, aka Holly, is our younger Maine Coon. She is an ethereal white beauty, and is very playful. She has a lot of kitten energy.

Leeroy Jenkins is our orange boy; he's a super sweet and lazy.

Then there are our newest additions, the kitten siblings. Dr. Pearl Forrester is a dilute tortoiseshell, and she is a spunky, playful baby. We call her "Parkour Pearl" because she loves to jump and climb. Her brother is a tuxedo baby named Forepaughs Tarbox Montgomery (aka 4Paws). He is a cuddly, sleepy baby who prefers to eat, sleep, and find a lap to snuggle up to. Last and defintely not least is Babybel Mozarella. We adopted him from the Humane Society and when we got him he was a robust 30 pounds. We've worked with him to get him healthy and and slimmed down. He loves to be the office cat and sleep on the office couch. But because people love him so much, he has a 24 hour twitch stream where you can always see what he's up to (sleeping) downstairs.

Café Favorites What are your must-try drinks and food items?

The Catzen Latte is our most popular drink; the orange syrup is made in-house and has just the right amount of orange sweetness that blends with our delicious milk from Autumnwood Farm milk.

Cat Etiquette Can guests bring treats for the cats?

No, we are careful about keeping the cats' diets consistent to reduce the chance of an upset stomach.

We have treats here, and if you come in your birthday you get some treats to give the cats.

Are guests allowed to pet the cats, and are there any guidelines around that?

Guests are absolutely allowed to pet the cats, but we ask that they don't pick them up. The exception is the kittens; we actually encourage guests to gently pick up the kittens so they get used to a lot of different people. Our biggest rule is to please don't pet Big Joe on his back or tail; he will tolerate it for a short time but then he's very STERN about setting a boundary and his claws are FAST. So only head and neck scritches for him, please.

Because the cats live here full time and are not adoptable, this is their home. They have their own entrance down to the basement area so they can come and go as they please. As a result, you may see some or you may see none and for this reason, we try to discourage the use of "Cat cafe" when people describe us. We don't charge a fee to enter our cat den, it truly is just extra seating for our very excellent coffee shop and there may be some cats, or there may be no cats when you visit.

We also have an age restriction during the weekday of 15+ to enter the cat den. Ages 10+ are welcome on Sat-Sun only. And of course, all ages are welcome in the coffee shop all the time.

North Star Deli Chef Pedro Wolcott is now focusing on a new concept North Star Deli set to open at 315 W. 46th St. in the Kingfield neighborhood.
