Welcome to Fall 2020 Golden Eagles! I am excited to serve as your new ASI President for the 2020-2021 academic year. As we are all facing unique challenges this semester, ASI continues to represent the student body’s interests and priorities to our university, community, and state stakeholders. Throughout the summer, ASI worked extensively with our faculty, sta , and administrators to prepare for the virtual approach this semester. This year, ASI will focus on three elements. The first is transparency. We must be transparent with our process, meetings, and goals to ensure we are accurately advocating on behalf of students. The second is advocacy. One primary key in advocating is communication. ASI will be utilizing social media, virtual town-halls, and emails to communicate with the student body and the campus community. The last element is empowerment. ASI will continue to empower student voices at a local, state, and federal level. I commit to you that ASI will be transparent in advocating for the protection of higher education and empowering student voices.
ASI will continue to focus on keeping students and the campus community up to date on current issues through events, meetings, and programs we have this semester. We will also continue to act as a liaison between students and the University Administration on matters that pertain to students. We do not doubt that Golden Eagles can overcome any obstacles impeding their academic success. We are here to serve our student body and unify our campus community by looking forward to new collaborations. With that, best of luck to you all this semester. ASI is excited to hear from you.
ASI supports campaigns directed by our Spirit Commissioner who organizes and maintains school spirit initiatives and programs. While developing and implementing a schedule of pride events throughout the academic year, the Spirit Commissioner is charged with initiating crowd participation for Cal State LA Athletics and encouraging club and Greek participation in large-scale and campus walkway events. For more information about our ASI pride initiatives, email: asisc@calstatela.edu
The Screaming Eagles Volunteer Street Team gives Cal State LA students the opportunity to work towards increasing campus pride. The Screaming Eagles promote ASI events, solicit participation in programs, and assist in the planning of campus initiatives. Serving as a Screaming Eagle is a great experience, but participation also requires a commitment to attend regular meetings and to submit reports on a periodic basis. To learn more about our efforts and to join the team, email: asivpa@calstatela.edu
Under the leadership of the ASI Environmental Affairs Commissioner, the Environmental Policy Committee (EPC) formulates and encourages the adoption of policies that will make Cal State LA and the CSU System more environmentally sustainable. The Environmental Affairs Commissioner and EPC act as education agents with respect to environmental sustainability and environmental justice in our community. For more information about the EPC or our environmental affairs efforts, visit: asicalstatela.org/gogreen or email: asieac@calstatela.edu
Lobby Corps is a network of organized students from across the CSU System charged with maintaining student representation and advocacy in the State Legislature and at CSU Board of Trustees meetings. To learn more about our efforts and to ensure your voice is being heard at the state level, join our meetings and open discussions. For more information, contact the ASI Vice President for External Affairs and Advancement at: asivpeaa@calstatela.edu or visit: asicalstatela.org/lobbycorps
ASI works closely with the Institute. Together we offer student participation in the quest for social justice, equality of opportunity, enlightened civic engagement and the improvement of the quality of life for all Californians. PBI, a presidentially chartered institute at Cal State LA, is a non-partisan public policy center convening public forums, engaging diverse communities, and conducting research and community-driven initiatives.
