CHILD SAFETY HANDBOOK A VITAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESOURCE FOR PARENTS AND CARERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR CONTRIBUTORS:

1

The NSW Police Legacy Child Safety Handbook is a free compendium, offering easy-to-read facts and advice on maintaining a safe, healthy environment for children. Drawing on current evidence from leading Australian and international research and education authorities, the Handbook explains the hazards most of us know about – and identifies many that we might not have considered to be so dangerous. The Handbook is distributed in a highly interactive digital format to families with primary school children throughout NSW each year, to help reduce injury-related hospitalisations and preventable deaths. Because you care about this goal too, you can now join us – parents, carers, police, teachers and other professionals who are committed to child safety awareness – in our efforts to ensure all children enjoy opportunities to live full, healthy and happy lives. Promoting your products and services in this attractive, colourful publication demonstrates to families in NSW your support not only for child safety, but also for the families of the police men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting us.

Child safety risks are high, but sponsoring a resource filled with evidence-based advice and endorsed by reputable organisations is possibly one of the best decisions you can trust to return benefits for your business and your community. It’s an opportunity like no other – can you access a better distribution channel for reaching young families and having your message delivered into the hands of parents? Before you check out the sponsorship options on page 6, please take a few minutes to read how this Handbook (and the money it raises for NSW Police Legacy) can make a powerful difference.

“The material is superb in creating conversations that families should discuss, and indeed need to discuss. We commend the NSW Police Legacy for this high quality publication.” – Sharon Johnson, Member Services Officer, Federation of parents and Citizens Association of NSW

A s a Nursing Unit Manager in the Emergency Department at Sydney Childrens Hospitality in Randwick, I believe the Child Safety Handbook is an invaluable tool for parents. I think whatever we can do to educate families and keep children safe can only be a good thing. – Lorna Reardon, Clinical Coordinator, Emergency Department, Sydney Children’s Hospital

The health and wellbeing of our children is everyone’s responsibility. As Patron of New South Wales Police Legacy, I am honoured to contribute a message to all parents, carers, teachers and members of the community who will read this new edition of the Child Safety Handbook. Within these pages is a wealth of pro-active and preventative measures to keep our youngest and most vulnerable members of our community healthy and safe – at school and at home, with family members and with friends, while on the street and online, and during outdoor play and natural emergencies. I congratulate New South Wales Police Legacy for its continuing commitment to providing a copy of this invaluable and updated resource to parents of primary school-aged children throughout our State.

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC Governor of New South Wales

NSW Police Legacy is honoured to provide the Child Safety Handbook to parents of primary school children throughout the State. This free handbook has attained an outstanding reputation as an invaluable resource guide for parents to help educate their children about key health and safety issues confronting our children today. NSW Police Legacy, in conjunction with Associated Media Group of Sydney, has been publishing this handbook for over 5 years and it gives me great pleasure that we are able to continue to provide this outstanding and current reference guide. I would especially like to extend our gratitude to the organisations whose advertising in this book has made it possible to produce the Child Safety Handbook as well as enabling NSW Police Legacy to continue to support the bereaved families of deceased Police Officers across New South Wales.
