Absa Foreword There can be no dispute that the COVID-19 pandemic has abruptly altered what we consider as “normal” in our daily lives. Particularly in the arts and culture space, many artists have been left without a livelihood due to the temporary closing of art galleries, as well as limited channels to promote their craft.

Art is – and has always been – in our DNA. We’ve been supporting the development of visual arts and the nurturing of young artistic talent across the African continent through our art sponsorships, such as the Absa L’Atelier for the past 34 years, and the Absa Gallery. Recently, we introduced the Absa Art Hot Spot, a digital art experience initiative that profiles artists and their work through live streamed art exhibition openings, art masterclasses and personal interviews.

In partnership with Aspire Art Auctions, we are proud to host our first virtual art auction – 49 artworks from 25 truly talented African artists. All the proceeds from this auction will go to supporting the broader arts industry and the artists themselves.

This is their art. These are their stories. And this is how we will help them to continue to bring their Africanacity.
