column Het is met blijdschap dat ik u vandaag ‘Blue Sky Magazine’ kan voorstellen, ons nieuwe ‘in-flight’ magazine. De lancering van deze nieuwe uitgave valt samen met enkele belangrijke gebeurtenissen voor ons bedrijf. Vooreerst vieren we het 20-jarige bestaan van ASL. Ik nam het bedrijf over in 1998, we beschikten toen welgeteld over één toestel. Op vandaag werken we met 35 toestellen vanuit 9 verschillende locaties en dat onder twee Air Operator Certificates: ASL en JetNetherlands. Ik ben trots op wat we bereikt hebben. Uiteraard is dit alles alleen maar tot stand kunnen komen dankzij mijn ongelofelijke team van toegewijde professionals. Als tweede is er de lancering van Air Charters Europe. ACE is een nieuwe luchtvaartmaatschappij gespecialiseerd in business incentives en groepsreizen. We geloven sterk in deze markt van ‘on-demand business’ en ‘incentive flights’ binnen Europa. De nieuwe ERJ 135 zal hiervoor het perfecte toestel zijn.

ASL en JetNetherlands horen ondertussen tot de toonaangevende business jet operatoren in Europa. We bouwden onze reputatie op kwaliteit, efficiëntie, veiligheid en betrouwbaarheid. Deze fundamentele principes drijven ook de dochterondernemingen van onze groep, zoals de succesvolle Blue Sky Aviation Club en het recent opgerichte Elite Pilot Training Center. Al deze entiteiten samen zorgen ervoor dat we ons mogen beschouwen als één van de sleutelspelers in de zakelijke Europese luchtvaartsector. Ik hoop echt dat u - net als ons - van dit magazine zal kunnen genieten en dat we binnenkort het privilege mogen hebben om u te ontmoeten aan boord van één van onze toestellen.

It is a pleasure and honour for me to present you ‘Blue Sky Magazine’, our brand new in-flight magazine. The launch of this new issue coincides with some major events for our company. Firstly, we are happy to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ASL. I took over ASL in 1998, when the company only had one aircraft. We now operate more than 35 aircrafts, out of 9 different bases and under two Air Operator Certificates, ASL and JetNetherlands. I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve. This is also thanks to an incredible team of dedicated professionals that surround me. Secondly, there is the launch of Air Charters Europe. ACE is a new airline company especially aimed at business group travel and incentives.

We strongly believe that there is a very strong market for on-demand business and incentive flights within Europe and the new ERJ135 will be the perfect aircraft for this.

ASL and JetNetherlands are now recognized as one of the leading business jet operators in Europe. We have built our reputation on quality, efficiency, safety and reliability. These fundamental principles also drive the subsidiaries of our group, such as our successful Blue Sky Aviation Club and our recently established Elite Pilot Training Center. All these entities now allow us to consider ourselves as a key player in the European business aviation sector. I truly hope that you will appreciate this magazine as much as we do and that we will have the privilege to meet you soon, or to have you on board of one of our aircrafts.

‘We fly. You are the captain’: dat is de belofte van ASL-JetNetherlands. “Sinds het prille begin in 1998 stellen we alles in het teken van onze klanten. Dankzij deze succesformule slaagden we er door de jaren heen in om zowel organisch, alsook via een aantal strategische overnames te groeien. Onze vloot breidde gestaag uit en vandaag kunnen we met onze 35 vliegtuigen, met een capaciteit van vier tot twaalf personen, vertrekken van waar en wanneer de klant dat wenst met een aanwezigheid op zowat alle belangrijke luchthavens in België en Nederland. Op onze twintigste verjaardag lanceren we een nieuw concept. Met ACE, dat staat voor Air Charters Europe, richten we ons op iets grotere groepen voor exclusieve business incentives en groepsreizen,” vertelt CEO Philippe Bodson. Hij leidt ons rond doorheen de mooie geschiedenis van twintig jaar ASL.

‘We fly. You are the captain’: that is the promise of ASL-JetNetherlands. “Since the very beginning in 1998, we go the extra mile for our customers. Thanks to this success formula, we succeeded over the years in growing organically as well as through several strategic acquisitions. Our fleet expanded steadily and today, with our 35 planes that have a capacity of four to twelve people, we can depart from wherever and whenever the customer wishes as we are present at almost all major airports in Belgium and the Netherlands. On our twentieth anniversary, we launch a new concept. With ACE, which stands for Air Charters Europe, we focus on slightly larger groups for exclusive business incentives and group travel”, says CEO Philippe Bodson. He takes us on a tour of the beautiful history of twenty years of ASL.

Kunt u ons wat meer vertellen over het prille begin? Hoe is ASL ontstaan?

“Ik was als kind al gefascineerd door alles wat met vliegen te maken had. Als 6-jarige ging ik voor het eerst op vakantie met het vliegtuig en ik vond dat ronduit fantastisch. Dit in tegenstelling tot mijn vader, die veel reisde voor zijn werk, maar een grondige hekel had aan vliegreizen (lacht). Ik heb marketing gestudeerd, maar ik volgde ook een opleiding tot piloot in avondles. Ik droomde er echt van om iets in de luchtvaart te doen, maar ik wist nog niet wat. Voor een goede vriend vloog ik af en toe gratis mee als copiloot met een klein toestel van hem, een kleine Piper Seneca. Op een mooie dag verkocht hij het toestel aan mij, samen met de bijhorende commerciële vliegvergunning. In die tijd verliep dat allemaal nog een stuk makkelijker, vandaag de dag moeten we veel meer doen om zo’n AOC (Air Operator Certificate, nvdr) te bemachtigen. Dit was dus ‘an offer I couldn’t refuse’. Ik kocht het vliegtuigje en startte eind 1997 Air Service Liège (ASL) nv op, dat in ’98 operationeel werd. De missie van toen: vliegtuigbeheer doen ten behoeve van klanten en eigenaars van vliegtuigen en het onderverhuren van deze toestellen aan externe klanten, op het moment dat de eigenaars deze zelf niet nodig hebben, is twintig jaar later nog steeds onze core business.”

Het begon dus zeer kleinschalig, met één vliegtuig.

“Inderdaad, maar vanaf dan ging het redelijk gestaag. Vanaf 1999 verhuisden we onze operationele activiteiten naar Antwerpen, terwijl Hasselt de administratieve hoofdzetel bleef. We breidden onze vloot in het begin van het nieuwe millennium uit met drie extra vliegtuigen, waaronder een Beech King Air B200. Een zeer mooie aanwinst in die tijd, het toestel maakt op vandaag nog steeds deel uit van onze vloot. Dit toestel vormde de basis van onze groei in de beginjaren, maar we bleven daarna ook verder groeien. Ik beschouw 2006 als een heel belangrijk jaar om drie redenen. Ten eerste bouwden we toen onze eigen hangar met kantoren en andere faciliteiten op de luchthaven van Antwerpen. Daarnaast werd ASL Travel opgericht, ons reisbureau gespecialiseerd in incentivereizen en gepersonaliseerde projectreizen. En ten derde startten we een operatie met een Beechcraft 1900D voor chartervluchten tot 18 passagiers. Dit opende heel wat nieuwe perspectieven, bijvoorbeeld voor de georganiseerde exclusieve skireizen met een privévliegtuig vanuit Antwerpen die nog steeds succes kennen. Eind 2006 hadden we in totaal zo’n vijf miljoen euro geïnvesteerd in onze verdere toekomst en beschikten we over een vloot van zes toestellen. Dat was een goede reden om een memorabel feest te geven. Guy Verhofstadt, die toen nog premier was van ons land, kwam er het lintje doorknippen. Ik heb hem nog persoonlijk gerepatrieerd toen hij gezondheidsproblemen kreeg in het buitenland. Zo is onze band ontstaan.”

Can you tell us a bit more about the very beginning? How did ASL arise?

“As a child I was already fascinated by everything that had to do with flying. As a 6-year-old, I went on a plane holiday for the first time and I thought that was fantastic. This in contrast to my father, who travelled a lot for work, but profoundly disliked air travel (laughs). I studied marketing, but I also took a pilot training in evening classes. I really dreamed of doing something in aviation, but I did not know what exactly. For a good friend I occasionally flew along as a co-pilot with a small aircraft of his, a small Piper Seneca. On a beautiful day, he sold the plane to me, together with the accompanying commercial fly permit. Those days, it was all a lot easier, today we have to do a lot more to get such an AOC [Air Operator Certificate]. You understand it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I bought the plane and started Air Service Liège (ASL) nv at the end of 1997, which became operational in ’98. Our mission then, doing aircraft management for customers and aircraft owners and subletting these aircraft to external customers at times the owners do not need them themselves, is still our core business twenty years later.”

So it started very small-scale, with one plane.

“Indeed, but from then it went fairly steadily. In 1999 we moved our operational activities to Antwerp, while Hasselt remained our administrative headquarters. We expanded our fleet at the beginning of the new millennium with three additional planes, including a Beech King Air B200. A very nice acquisition at that time, the plane is still part of our fleet today. This plane formed the basis of our growth in the early years, but we also continued to grow after. I consider 2006 as a very important year for three reasons. Firstly, we built our own warehouse with offices and other facilities at Antwerp Airport. In addition, ASL Travel was founded, our travel agency that specializes in incentive trips and customized project trips. Thirdly, we started an operation with a Beechcraft 1900D for charter flights of up to 18 passengers. This opened up a lot of new perspectives, for example for the organized exclusive ski trips with a private plane from Antwerp that are still successful. At the end of 2006, we had invested a total of around five million euros in our further future and we had a fleet of six planes. That was a good reason to throw a memorable party. Guy Verhofstadt, who was our country’s prime minister at that time, came to cut the ribbon. I personally repatriated him when he got health problems abroad. That is how our bond originated.”

Het jaar 2006 was een mijlpaal voor ASL. Hebben jullie veel hinder ondervonden van de crisis, die twee jaar later uitbrak?

“Zoals iedereen hebben we toen ook wat klappen gekregen. Maar ik durf te zeggen dat we verstandig hebben ingespeeld op de crisis. In 2008 introduceerden we bijvoorbeeld de allereerste ‘very light jet’ in de Benelux, de Cessna Mustang. Dit is een compact en relatief prijsvriendelijk vliegtuig, in onze sector zou je het een ‘crisisproduct’ kunnen noemen. Ondertussen hebben we nu vier Cessna Mustang toestellen in onze vloot en ze doen het uitstekend als entry level jet. Een slimme zet was dat, die ons toen bij de lancering van het concept heel wat belangstelling opleverde. Ik ben er zelfs mee in ‘De Zevende Dag’ geweest, waar ik het VLJ concept mocht gaan uitleggen. Zo slaagden we erin om stand te houden in de crisisjaren. Meer zelfs, we konden groeien door een aantal bedrijven in faling over te nemen. Eerst was er de overname van een Kortrijks bedrijf. Hierdoor konden we ons vestigen op het vliegveld van Wevelgem, waar zich een interessante markt bevindt voor zakenvluchten. In 2012 namen we dan het failliete SolidaiR over in Eindhoven. Dat waren onze eerste stappen in Nederland, wat later heel belangrijk bleek voor onze groep. Van SolidaiR hadden we eerder al een toestel overgenomen, namelijk een Dornier 328 TP die tot 19 passagiers kon vervoeren. We richtten bij deze overname een nieuw bedrijf op in Nederland, ASL BV, en behaalden een Nederlandse AOC. Eind 2012 beschikten we over 20 toestellen waarvan zes in Nederland. Nadien was er de fusie met het Amsterdamse bedrijf JetNetherlands en toen klokten we af op een vloot van 30 toestellen. In 2015 hebben we de fusie met JetNetherlands omgezet in een overname, maar behielden we de naam voor onze activiteiten in Nederland. Onze ruime en gevarieerde vloot is zonder twijfel één van onze grote sterktes. Voor elk type vlucht of reis hebben we een gepast vliegtuig.”

De crisis heeft jullie duidelijk niet klein gekregen.

“Integendeel, de vele strategische overnames en samenwerkingen hebben ons net sterker gemaakt. In 2015 namen we trouwens ook Rijnmond Air Service over, een onderhoudsbedrijf in Rotterdam. Daar hebben we nu ook een hele mooie infrastructuur voor onderhoud en stalling van vliegtuigen. En in 2017 volgde nog een kleinere, maar wel strategische overname, namelijk van het Groningse Air Charters Europe. Hierdoor verwierven we ook hun afhandelingsbedrijf met bijhorende licentie, iets wat we tot dan toe nog niet hadden en in de toekomst nog belangrijk kan zijn. Opnieuw een extra troef erbij dus.”

The year 2006 was a milestone for ASL. Have you suffered much from the crisis, which broke out two years later?

“Like everyone, we have suffered some blows. However, I dare say that we have responded to the crisis sensibly. In 2008 for example, we introduced the very first very light jet in the Benelux, the Cessna Mustang. This is a compact and relatively affordable plane, in our sector you could call it a ‘crisis product’. In the meantime, we now have four Cessna Mustang planes in our fleet and they do excellent as an entry level jet. That was a smart move that yielded a lot of interest when we launched the concept. I have even been on ‘De Zevende Dag’ where they asked me to explain the VLJ concept. That is how we managed to survive in the crisis years. Even more, we were able to grow by taking over a number of companies in bankruptcy. First we took over a company from Kortrijk. This allowed us to settle at the airport of Wevelgem, which has an interesting market for business flights. In 2012 we took over the bankrupt SolidaiR in Eindhoven. That were our first steps in the Netherlands, which later turned out to be very important for our group. From SolidaiR we had already taken over a plane earlier, i.e. a Dornier 328 TP that could carry up to 19 passengers. With this takeover, we set up a new company in the Netherlands, ASL BV, and obtained a Dutch AOC. AT the end of 2012 we had 20 planes, of which six in the Netherlands.

Then there was the merger with the Amsterdam-based company JetNetherlands which left us with a fleet of 30 planes. In 2015, we converted the merger with JetNetherlands into an acquisition but we retained the name for our activities in the Netherlands. Our large and varied fleet is undoubtedly one of our great strengths. We have a suitable plane for every type of flight or trip.”

You clearly were not defeated by the crisis.

“On the contrary, the many strategic acquisitions and collaborations have just made us stronger. In 2015, we also acquired Rijnmond Air Service, a maintenance company in Rotterdam. As a result, we now also have a very nice infrastructure for aircraft maintenance and storage there. And in 2017, a smaller but strategic acquisition followed, i.e. the Groningen Air Charters Europe. This way, we also acquired their handling company with the corresponding licence, which we did not have until then and which may still be important in the future. Another extra asset.”

En nu is er het nieuwe project, ACE. Wat houdt dat precies in?

“ACE, Air Charters Europe voluit, zoals het Groningse bedrijf dat we overgenomen hebben - ik vond dat een sterke naam (lacht) - is toch wel uniek in de Benelux. We richten ons met een sterk product op een nichemarkt voor business incentives en groepsreizen van tien tot dertig personen. Dit kunnen bedrijven zijn, maar ook muziekgroepen, sportclubs of mensen die met veel bagage reizen, zoals groepen die gaan jagen bijvoorbeeld. Wij bieden hen een topproduct aan, met een allesomvattende service, zodat reizen met ACE puur genieten is, in een exclusief gecharterd toestel dat speciaal werd ingericht volgens onze specificaties. We hebben gemerkt dat hier veel potentieel in zit. We hebben dit jaar een eerste vliegtuig hiervoor gekocht: een Embraer ERJ-135. Onze ambitie is om van ACE een symbool te maken van exclusieve groepsreizen met het vliegtuig, in alle flexibiliteit en comfort. We starten met één vliegtuig, maar uiteraard willen we dit gaandeweg uitbreiden. We hebben al plannen voor een extra vliegtuig voor 42 personen, een Embraer ERJ 145”.

Waar droomt u nog van, na al die succesvolle verwezenlijkingen?

“Mijn grootste droom heb ik al verwezenlijkt: Ondernemen en gelijktijdig een vliegtuig besturen in mijn eigen zaak en zo maken we van luxueus reizen in de lucht al twintig jaar lang een plezier voor onze klanten. We laten hen een rustig en aangenaam traject afleggen, in alle comfort en met volledige flexibiliteit. We kunnen vertrekken waar en wanneer de klant wil: Groningen, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Maastricht, Brussel, Charleroi, Antwerpen en Wevelgem. Daar hebben we nu bouwplannen voor een nieuwe hangar, en ook in Antwerpen trouwens. Luik zou interessant zijn om ons nog te vestigen omdat de luchthaven daar 24 uur geopend is. Dit is interessant voor bepaalde types van vluchten zoals onze transplantvluchten. En dan is de cirkel terug rond van waar het ooit begonnen is: Air Service Liège…”

ASL-JetNetherlands staat sterk in België en Nederland. What’s next, Europa?

“We focussen inderdaad in de toekomst meer op Europa, omdat er wellicht nog heel wat mogelijkheden zijn. Onze nieuwe slogan van ACE is dan ook ‘Connecting Europe in Style’. Voor ons is ‘The Sky’ onze thuis, maar zakelijk blijven we wel graag met de beide voeten op de grond. De grootste worden is daarom niet ons hoofddoel. We willen in de eerste plaats de beste blijven in wat we doen en een aangenaam en kwaliteitsvol bedrijf zijn voor zowel onze klanten als voor onze medewerkers. En als we door organisch te groeien en eventueel nog bijkomende overnames verder blijven groeien zoals de voorbije twintig jaar, gaan ze nog van ons horen in Europa!

And now there is the new project, ACE. What exactly does that mean?

“ACE, or Air Charters Europe in full, like the Groningen-based company that we have acquired – I thought that was a strong name (laughs) – is unique in the Benelux. We hit a niche market for business incentives and group trips of ten to thirty people with a top product. These can be companies, but also bands, sport clubs or people who travel with a lot of luggage, such as groups that go hunting for example. We offer them a top product with an all-encompassing service which makes traveling with ACE pure enjoyment in an exclusively chartered plane that has been specially designed after our specifications. We have noticed that this holds a lot of potential. We have bought a first plane for this purpose this year: an Embraer ERJ-135. Our ambition is to make ACE a symbol of exclusive group travel by plane in all flexibility and comfort.

We start with one plane but of course we want to expand this gradually. We already have plans for an extra plane for 42 people, an Embraer ERJ 145”.

After all these successful achievements, what are you still dreaming of?

“I have already realized my greatest dream. We let them take a calm and enjoyable route, in comfort and with full flexibility. We can depart wherever and whenever the customer wishes: Groningen, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Maastricht, Brussels, Charleroi, Antwerp and Wevelgem. There we are planning the construction of a new hangar, in Antwerp as well by the way. Liège would be an interesting location because the airport there is open 24 hours a day. That is interesting for certain types of flights such as our transplant flights. That would also make the circle complete, back to where it all started: Air Service Liège…”

ASL-JetNetherlands is going strong in Belgium and the Netherlands. What’s next, Europe?

“We will indeed focus more on Europe in the future, because there may be many opportunities there. After all, our new slogan for ACE is ‘Connecting Europe in Style’. For us, the sky is our home but business-wise we like to keep it down to earth. In that light, becoming the biggest is not our main goal. First and foremost, we want to remain the best in what we do and be a pleasant and high-quality company for both our customers and our employees. Edouard Vermeulen startte zijn carrière als interieurarchitect in 1983. “Na mijn opleiding aan Sint-Lucas in Brussel ging ik op zoek naar een geschikte locatie om een zaak op te starten. Ik vond die in een prachtig herenhuis op de Avenue Louise, waar toen ‘Maison Natan’ van couturier Paul Natan gevestigd was. De prestigieuze kledingzaak bestond al sinds 1930. Ik huurde een kleine ruimte in het pand. Kort daarna stopte de kledingzaak, tot grote spijt van de vaste klanten. Het trok me aan en de rest van het verhaal is geschiedenis,” vertelt de Belgische modeontwerper.

Vijfendertig jaar later is Natan onder zijn leiding uitgegroeid tot een modehuis met internationale uitstraling en kan het veel leden van Europese koninklijke families tot de vaste klanten rekenen.

“Ik ben daar enorm fier op, maar ik blijf bescheiden en ben van mening dat het altijd beter kan.”

Edouard Vermeulen started his career as an interior designer in 1983. “After my education at SintLucas in Brussels, I went looking for a suitable location to start a business. I found it in a beautiful mansion on Avenue Louise, where couturier Paul Natan’s Maison Natan was located at that time.

The prestigious clothing store existed since 1930 already. I rented a small space in the building.

Shortly after, the clothing store closed its doors, much to the regret of the regular customers. It appealed to me and the rest of the story is history”, says the Belgian fashion designer. Thirty-five years later and under his wings, Natan has grown into a fashion house with international appeal that has many members of European royal families as regular customers. “I am very proud of that, but I stay modest and believe that there is always room for improvement.”

Hoe ging alles concreet in zijn werk in de begindagen?

“Dat ging eigenlijk vrij eenvoudig. Ik nam een naaister in dienst en samen begonnen we kledij te ontwerpen. Mijn eerste collectie was een jaar later klaar, in 1984. Ik ben de modewereld toevallig ingestapt, maar was wel altijd al gedreven door esthetiek en schoonheid: vormen, lijnen, kleuren, volumes... Mode en interieur zijn op veel vlakken gelijkaardig.”

Welk type vrouw houdt u voor ogen tijdens het ontwerpen van uw collecties?

“Mijn collecties zijn bedoeld voor actieve, verfijnde vrouwen van gemiddeld veertig tot zestig jaar – wat natuurlijk niet betekent dat jongere of oudere dames niet bij Natan terecht kunnen. We staan voor elegante, geklede silhouetten die zowel eigentijds als tijdloos zijn. We ontwerpen hoofdzakelijk niet-alledaagse kledij, voor gelegenheden. Ik merk wel dat er een trend is naar meer ‘casual chic’, die men kan doordragen. Als je door de stad wandelt, kan je niet meer naast de ‘streetwear’ kijken. Ik las onlangs dat maar liefst veertig procent van de vrouwen vandaag sneakers draagt. Ik ben daar resoluut tegen, maar ik probeer wél om mee te zijn met de evolutie. Mode moet een antwoord bieden op wat er leeft bij de mensen en wat ze graag willen dragen.”

How exactly did you work in the early days?

“Actually, it went pretty simple. I hired a seamstress and together we started to design clothing. My first collection was finished a year later, in 1984. I entered the fashion world by chance but I had always been driven by aesthetics and beauty: shapes, lines, colours, volumes,… Fashion and interior are similar in many ways.”

What type of woman do you keep in mind when designing your collections?

“My collections are intended for active, sophisticated women with an average age of forty to sixty – which of course does not mean that younger or older ladies cannot find their way to Natan. We stand for elegant, dressed silhouettes that are both contemporary and timeless. We mainly design non-everyday clothing for special occasions. I do notice that there is a trend towards more casual chic, clothing that can be worn more often. If you walk through the city, you cannot look past the streetwear anymore. I recently read that as many as forty percent of women wear sneakers today. Something I am resolutely opposed to, but I do try to keep up with the evolution. Fashion should offer a response to what people ask for and what they would like to wear.”

Waar vindt u uw inspiratie?

“Ik reis veel en graag, maar ik haal mijn inspiratie vooral uit het gewone, alledaagse leven. Ik observeer alles in de stad of in de natuur: mensen op straat, de kleuren en het licht van de omgeving… Ik neem er foto’s van of noteer het in een boekje. Daarmee begin ik dan te ontwerpen. Ik heb een open geest en ik laat mezelf toe om verwonderd te zijn over al hetgeen ik tegenkom. Dat is voor mij de basis van creativiteit. Daarnaast zorg ik ook dat ik op veel evenementen aanwezig ben. Op vernissages, openingen van tentoonstellingen en andere sociale aangelegenheden krijg ik veel inspiratie voor mijn ontwerpen. Ik zie er wat vrouwen graag dragen en hoe ze leven. Het is echt belangrijk om de vinger aan de pols te houden. Voor mij is dat gelukkig geen opgave: ik ben een man van de wereld en ik kom graag onder de mensen.”

De modewereld evolueert snel en vandaag zijn sociale media alomtegenwoordig. Beschouwt u dit als een uitdaging voor uw modehuis?

“Ik ben zelf niet zo met sociale media bezig, daar heb ik een goed team voor. Maar ik besef wel hoe belangrijk het is. Ik doe er af en toe ideeën op, maar ik blijf trouw aan het DNA van ons huis: puurheid, elegantie, details en kwaliteit. Mensen kopen niet meer zoals vroeger, toen ze naar de winkel kwamen en rustig de tijd namen om de collectie te bekijken. Vandaag hebben ze alles al gezien thuis, bijvoorbeeld op Instagram. Ze komen naar de winkel met een duidelijk doel én hoge verwachtingen. Het is onze taak om die in te lossen en zelfs te overstijgen. Een boeiende uitdaging! Nog iets wat veranderd is: het feit dat er geen generaties meer zijn. Vroeger kleedden we de grootmoeder, de dochter en de kleindochter.

Nu is er maar één generatie meer, vrouwen willen er allemaal jong uitzien. Dat is uiteraard hun goed recht!”

Wat was het mooiste moment uit uw carrière tot nu toe?

“Ik was enorm vereerd toen ik in 1999 de bruidsjurk van Koningin Mathilde mocht ontwerpen. Dit heeft ons huis op de kaart gezet, zowel in eigen land als internationaal. Het heeft heel wat deuren geopend. We konden onze collecties uitbreiden en openden door de jaren heen nieuwe winkels, waaronder ook in Nederland. In België hebben we vandaag winkels in Brussel, Antwerpen, Gent, Knokke en Roeselare. Natan kleedt inmiddels heel wat beroemdheden en ‘royals’ uit Nederland, Zweden en het Groothertogdom Luxemburg. Het is allemaal kleinschalig begonnen en kijk waar we vandaag staan: dat is iets waar ik elke dag nog steeds heel dankbaar voor ben.”

U heeft al zoveel verwezenlijkt, koestert u nog dromen?

“Ik hoor vaak dat Natan een ‘instituut’ is en dat ik ‘de King of Queens’ ben. Natuurlijk maakt dat me trots, maar ik blijf bescheiden – misschien zitten mijn West-Vlaamse roots er wel voor iets tussen? Ik doe wat ik doe met volledige passie en overgave. Maar het kan altijd beter en ik wil blijven vernieuwen en evolueren. Groeien hoeft voor mij niet per se. Ik ben liever top in eigen land, dan dat ik onnodige risico’s neem in het buitenland en dan misschien aan kwaliteit moet inboeten.

Where do you find your inspiration?

“I travel a lot and I like it, but I mainly get my inspiration from everyday life. I observe everything in the city or in nature: people on the street, the colours and the light of the environment… I take pictures or write it down in a notebook. That is my basis when I start designing. I have an open mind and I allow myself to be amazed at everything I encounter. For me, that is the basis of creativity. Besides, I also make sure I am present at many events. At vernissages, openings of exhibitions and other social events I get a lot of inspiration for my designs. I see what women like to wear and how they live. It is really important to keep your finger on the pulse. Fortunately, for me that is not a task: I am a man of the world and I like to be among people.”

The fashion world is evolving rapidly and today social media are omnipresent. Do you consider this a challenge for your fashion house?

“I am not that involved with social media myself, I have a good team for that. However, I realize how important it is. Every now and then I get some ideas of it, but I stay true to the DNA of our house: purity, elegance, details and quality. People no longer buy as before, when they came to the store and quietly took the time to view the collection. Today they have already seen everything at home, on Instagram for example. They come to the store not only with a clear goal but also with high expectations. It is our job to fulfil and even exceed those. A fascinating challenge! What also has changed is the fact that there are no more generations. In the past, we used to dress the grandmother, the daughter and the granddaughter.

Now there is only one generation left as women all want to look young. They obviously have every right to do so!”

What was the best moment in your career so far?

“I was greatly honoured when I was asked to design the wedding dress of Queen Mathilde in 1999. This has put our house on the map, both in Belgium and abroad. It has opened a lot of doors. We were able to expand our collection and opened new stores over the years, including in the Netherlands. Today our Belgian stores are in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Knokke and Roeselare. Natan now dresses a lot of celebrities and royals from the Netherlands, Sweden and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It all started quite small-scale and look where we stand today: that is something I am still very grateful for every day.”

You have already accomplished so much; do you still have dreams?

“I often hear that Natan is an institute and that I am the King of Queens. Of course, that makes me proud but I stay modest – maybe that is where my West Flemish roots come in? I do what I do with full passion and dedication. However, there is always room for improvement and I want to continue to innovate and evolve. To grow is not a priority for me. I prefer to be top in my own country than to take unnecessary risks abroad and maybe compromise on quality.

Als transplantatiecoördinator van het Transplantatiecentrum in het UZ Gent is Luc Colenbie een spilfiguur bij elke transplantatie die in het ziekenhuis plaatsvindt. “Los van het medische aspect heeft mijn job een sterk menselijke kant. Samen met de arts voer ik moeilijke gesprekken met de familie en luister ik naar hun vragen en wensen.

Ik kom in contact met heel wat verdriet, maar ook met geluk en dankbaarheid want één donor kan meerdere levens redden.”

As transplant coordinator of the Transplant Centre at UZ Gent [Ghent University Hospital], Luc Colenbie is a key figure for every transplant that takes place at the hospital. “Apart from the medical aspect, my job also has a strong human side. Together with the doctor, I have difficult conversations with the relatives and I listen to their questions and wishes. I encounter a lot of grief but also happiness and gratitude because one donor can save several lives.”

Dankzij sensibiliseringscampagnes van de overheid zijn er steeds meer mensen die uitdrukkelijk hun toestemming geven voor orgaandonatie. Ze beseffen dat ze op die manier andere levens kunnen redden. Je kan je afvragen: waarom extra toestemming geven als je toch al donor bent? Voor de nabestaanden kan dit een grote betekenis hebben. Weten dat hun dierbare overledene het zo wilde kan helpen om hun verlies te verwerken.”

Wanneer wordt iemand dan precies donor?

“Enkel wie hersendood is, kan organen afstaan. Dit betekent dat er nog bloedcirculatie is zodat de organen ‘gevoed’ worden. Het is moeilijk voor nabestaanden om het gegeven ‘hersendood’ te begrijpen. Voor de arts en de transplantatiecoördinator is een belangrijke rol weggelegd, namelijk om dit helder en sereen uit te leggen. Waar ik telkens de nadruk op leg bij deze gesprekken, is respect. Wij behandelen het lichaam van de donor met veel zorg. Bij een gezichtstransplantatie in het verleden, maakten we bijvoorbeeld het gezicht van de overledene na. Zo zorgden we dat de familie op een mooie manier afscheid kon nemen.”

Is not everyone automatically an organ donor in our country?

“From a legal point of view, every Belgian who has been registered in the population register for at least six months is an organ donor. Anyone can object to this. Thanks to public awareness campaigns, more and more people expressly consent to organ donation. They realize they can save other lives this way. You may wonder: why give extra consent if you are already a donor? This may have great significance for the next of kin. Knowing that their beloved deceased wanted it this way could help overcome their loss.”

When exactly does someone become a donor?

“Only people who are brain dead can give up organs. This means that there is still blood circulation to ‘feed’ the organs.

It is difficult for surviving relatives to understand the term ‘brain dead’. This implies an important role for the doctor and the transplant coordinator, i.e. to explain this in a clear and serene way. What I always emphasize in these conversations is respect. We treat the donor’s body with great care. For example, after a face transplant in the past, we recreated the face of the deceased. That way we made sure the relatives could say goodbye gracefully.”

Hoe verloopt de procedure voor een transplantatie?

“Alles wordt geregeld door Eurotransplant, de Europese instelling die 24 uur op 24 actief is. Daar komen alle aanvragen en donoren binnen vanuit de Europese ziekenhuizen. De regel is dat de meest zieke patiënt of de persoon voor wie de nood het hoogst is het orgaan krijgt, als er een match is op vlak van bloed en weefsel én als aan een reeks medische parameters voldaan is.”

Doordat organen een beperkte bewaartijd hebben en uit heel Europa komen, doen jullie vaak een beroep op orgaanvluchten met ASL-JetNetherlands. Hoe gaat dat in zijn werk?

“De patiënt en de donor blijven sowieso altijd in het ziekenhuis. Samen met de chirurg ga ik het orgaan ter plaatse halen en intussen wordt in het operatiekwartier alles in gereedheid gebracht voor de transplantatie. Voor verre afstanden schakelen we een privéjet in van ASL-JetNetherlands. We kunnen hen dag en nacht bereiken en binnen de kortste keren staat er een vliegtuig vertrekkensklaar in Wevelgem, Oostende, Brussel of Antwerpen. We krijgen voorrang bij het opstijgen.

Afhankelijk van de afstand en de dringendheid – een hart heeft bijvoorbeeld een kortere bewaartijd – wordt een sneller vliegtuig ingeschakeld.”

“Wanneer ergens een donor beschikbaar is, moet het snel gaan.

Als dit in het buitenland is, staat er binnen de kortste keren een vliegtuig van ASL voor ons klaar, dat ons snel naar onze bestemming brengt.”

Tijdens een orgaanvlucht is snelheid cruciaal en mag er niks mislopen. Is het soms moeilijk?

“Externe factoren kunnen roet in het eten strooien, bijvoorbeeld het weer. Ik herinner me een orgaanvlucht op kerstavond een paar jaar geleden. We hadden in Dresden een hart opgehaald voor een 16-jarig meisje dat er erg aan toe was. Net voor onze landing in Wevelgem kregen we bericht dat de wegen spekglad lagen en dat we met de wagen niet op tijd in het UZ zouden geraken. Ik probeerde een helikopter te regelen, maar zonder resultaat… Uiteindelijk kwam de Sea King ons halen vanuit Koksijde. Op acht minuten stonden we in het ziekenhuis en het meisje was gered! Achteraf zijn die mannen een grote pluchen beer komen brengen. De tranen stonden in hun ogen omdat ze door hun actie het leven van dat meisje hadden gered. Ik ga dat nooit vergeten.”

Je maakt helaas ook minder mooie verhalen mee. Kan je je job van je afzetten?

“Het is moeilijk, maar het moet. Wat me telkens veel deugd doet, is een overlijdensbericht krijgen van de familie van een donor. Het is een teken dat zij appreciëren wat we als team gedaan hebben. Een tijdje geleden kon ik niet aanwezig zijn op de begrafenis van een 12-jarig meisje dat vier levens redde. Ik deed op dat moment een lezing in Straatsburg. Ik vroeg één minuut stilte aan het publiek en iedereen was onder de indruk. Ik plaatste dit ook op Facebook en er kwamen veel mooie reacties op. Zo’n dingen helpen mij om te verwerken.”

How does the procedure for a transplant go?

“Everything is arranged by Eurotransplant, the European institution that operates 24 hours a day. That is where all applications and donors come in from European hospitals. The rule is that the most ill patient or the person in highest need receives the organ, if there is a match in terms of blood and tissue and on condition that a series of medical parameters is met.”

Because organs have a limited storage time and come from all over Europe, you often make use of organ flights with ASL-JetNetherlands. How does that work?

“In any case, the patient and the donor always stay at the hospital. Together with the surgeon I pick up the organ on the spot and meanwhile everything is being prepared for transplant in the operating theatre. For longer distances we use a private jet from ASL-Jet Netherlands. We can reach them day and night and in no time, a plane is ready for departure in Wevelgem, Ostend, Brussels or Antwerp. We get priority on take-off. Depending on the distance and the urgency – for example, a heart has a shorter storage time – a faster plane is deployed.”

“When a donor is available somewhere, it has to go fast. If it is abroad, a plane from ASL will be ready for us in no time and quickly bring us to our destination.”

During an organ flight, speed is crucial and nothing can go wrong. Is it sometimes difficult?

“External factors can throw a spanner in the works, such as the weather. I remember an organ flight on Christmas Eve a few years ago. We had picked up a heart in Dresden for a 16-year-old girl who was in a bad condition. Just before our landing in Wevelgem, we were informed that the roads were very slippery and that we would not make it to the hospital in time.

I tried to arrange a helicopter but without success…. Eventually the Sea King came to pick us up from Koksijde. In eight minutes, we were at the hospital and the girl was saved! Afterwards, these men came to bring a big teddy bear. They had tears in their eyes because they had saved the life of that girl with their action. I will never forget that.”

Unfortunately, you also have stories that do not end that well. Can you leave that behind you?

“It is hard, but I have to. What always pleases me is getting an obituary from the relatives of a donor. It is a sign that they appreciate what we have done as a team. A while ago I could not attend the funeral of a 12-year-old girl who saved four lives. I was doing a lecture in Strasbourg at that time. I asked the audience for one minute of silence and everyone was impressed. I also posted this on Facebook and there were many nice reactions. Such things help me process.”

Hoe bent u in de high-end hospitality sector terechtgekomen?

“Ik ben geboren en opgegroeid in Tel Aviv. Mijn vader was opticien en mijn moeder boekhoudster. Als jonge gast had ik al een neus voor luxe en verfijning. Ik hield altijd al van luxehorecagelegenheden en wilde onafhankelijk zijn en volop van het leven genieten. Daarom werkte ik na schooltijd in de horeca. Op mijn achttiende vertrok ik naar New York, waar ik een businessopleiding volgde en intussen ook in het nachtleven werkte om geld bij te verdienen. Terug in Tel Aviv, opende ik op éénentwintigjarige leeftijd een espressobar. De zaken gingen heel goed en ik deed veel ervaring op. Tussen 2002 en 2008 richtte ik in Engeland verschillende restaurants en bars op van de bekende loungeketen ‘Chino Latino’, in opdracht van een Europese hotelgroep. In 2007 leerde ik mijn vriend en business partner Liran Wizman kennen. Zo ontstond The Entourage Group met MOMO als ons allereerste project. Zo kwam ik terecht in de Nederlandse hoodstad, een plek die ik voordien alleen maar kende als toerist. Ik stelde vast dat er maar weinig restaurants en bars waren voor een kosmopolitisch publiek dat op zoek is naar kwaliteit, verfijning en een unieke ervaring op vlak van eten en drinken. Ik zag vooral veel sfeerloze, dertienin-een-dozijn plekken zonder ziel en eigenheid, waar iedereen op safe speelt en hetzelfde doet. Mijn creatieve en ondernemende geest zag in de stad meteen heel wat opportuniteiten.”

Dat leidde tot de opening van Momo in 2008. Het Aziatisch geïnspireerde restaurant was meteen een schot in de roos.

“Ik zie Momo dan ook echt als een keerpunt voor Amsterdam. De combinatie van luxe, design, verfijnd Aziatisch eten en een open keuken was totaal nieuw in de stad. De bezoekers hadden vanaf het begin het gevoel dat ze in Londen of New York waren. Die unieke ervaring creëren: dat was exact wat ik wilde bereiken. Het was niet mijn bedoeling om uit te groeien tot de groep die we vandaag zijn, maar het succesverhaal zette zich verder. Vandaag zijn we bijzonder trots op onze restaurants Momo, Izakaya, The Butcher, The Duchess, Mr Porter en Club Mad Fox. Onze merken passen overal ter wereld. Amsterdam is ons ‘epicentrum’, maar we hebben sinds 2016 ook restaurants in Berlijn, Hamburg, Ibiza, München en binnenkort ook in Milaan en Barcelona.

Zijn er gelijkenissen tussen de restaurants? Een ‘signature style’ van The Entourage Group?

“Al onze brands zijn uniek en hebben een eigen food en design concept, van gourmet naar verfijnde Japanse keuken tot Indisch getinte ‘streetfood’. Maar het gaat telkens om een ervaring, een totaalpakket. De verwelkoming aan de deur, de muziek, het interieur, de tafelaankleding, de bediening, het eten… Alles moet ‘af’ zijn van begin tot eind. Wie in onze restaurants komt, waant zich in een filmsetting. Vaste elementen zijn de 360° bar en de open keuken, maar verder zal je op geen enkele plek dezelfde wijnkaart of identiek bestek aantreffen.”

“Al onze concepten zien het levenslicht in Amsterdam, vanwaar ze gestaag kunnen uitgroeien tot internationaal geliefde merken. Ik ben trots dat mensen speciaal naar Amsterdam komen om in één van onze restaurants te eten.”

Het gaat hard voor The Entourage Group. Waar droomt u nog van?

“Ik wil mijn best blijven doen om de high-end hospitality sector verder te transformeren met innoverende food & drink concepten. De focus ligt op Europa, hier zijn zoveel bruisende steden met eindeloze mogelijkheden. Amerika is een totaal andere markt en in onze sector is het sowieso al niet eenvoudig om ‘leading’ te blijven. Bezoekers hebben erg hoge verwachtingen – dat is hun recht natuurlijk – maar doorgaans herinneren ze zich vooral ‘die ene slechtste keer’. Het is aan ons om ervoor te zorgen dat ze enkel topervaringen beleven in onze restaurants!”

How did you end up in the high-end hospitality sector?

“I was born and raised in Tel Aviv. My father was an optician and my mother an accountant. In my early years, I already had a nose for luxury and refinement. I always admired high-end hospitality and I wanted to be independent and fully enjoy life. That is why I started to work in restaurants and bars after school. When I was eighteen, I moved to New York, where I took a business training and in the meantime also worked in the nightlife to earn some extra money on the side.

Back in Tel Aviv, I opened an espresso bar at the age of twenty-one. Things went very well and I gained lots of experience.

Between 2002 and 2008, I set up several restaurants and bars of the famous lounge chain ‘Chino Latino’ in England, as ordered by a European hotel group. In 2007, I met my friend and business partner Liran Wizman. This meant the foundation of The Entourage Group with MOMO as our very first project. That is how I ended up in the Dutch capital city, a place that I only knew as a tourist then. I noted that there were only few restaurants and bars for a cosmopolitan audience looking for quality, refinement and a unique experience in terms of foods and drinks. I saw a lot of atmosphere-lacking, a-dime-a-dozen joints without soul and individuality where everyone plays safe and does the same. My creative and entrepreneurial spirit immediately saw many opportunities in the city.”

That led to the opening of Momo in 2008. The Asian-inspired restaurant hit the mark straight away.

“I really see Momo as a turning point for Amsterdam. The combination of luxury, design, refined Asian food and an open kitchen was totally new in the city. The visitors felt like they were in London or New York. Creating that unique experience was exactly what I wanted to achieve. At the start, it was not my intention to grow into the group we are today, but the success story went on. Today we are very proud of our restaurants Izakaya, The Butcher, The Duchess, Mr Porter and Mad Fox. Our brands fit anywhere in the world. Amsterdam is our epicentre, but since 2016 we also have restaurants in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Ibiza and soon also in Milan and Barcelona.

“All our concepts are created and established in Amsterdam, from where they can steadily grow into internationally acclaimed brands. I am proud that people come to Amsterdam with the sole purpose of eating in one of our restaurants.”

Are there similarities between the restaurants? A signature style of The Entourage Group?

“All our brands are unique and have their own food and design concept, from gourmet to refined Japanese cuisine to Indian-tinted street food. However, it is always an experience, a complete package. The welcome at the door, the music, the interior, the table decoration, the service, the food,… Everything must be finished down to the very detail. People who come to our restaurants find themselves in a film setting as it were. Fixed elements are the 360° bar and the open kitchen but at no place will you find the same wine list or identical cutlery.

The Entourage Group is going strong. What are you still dreaming of?

“I want to keep transforming the hospitality industry and keep improving and be innovative. The focus is on Europe which boasts so many bustling cities with endless possibilities. America is a completely different market and in our sector, it is in any case not easy to remain leading. Visitors have very high expectations – which is of course their right – but they usually remember that one time things went wrong. It is up to us to ensure that they only enjoy top experiences in our restaurants!”

Als vier personen co-eigenaar zijn van één boot, kunnen ze elk zeven weken gegarandeerd varen tijdens het seizoen. Voor de meesten is dat meer dan voldoende.”

For many people, a luxurious super yacht is the ultimate dream, the most beautiful present for successful entrepreneurs and their families. The high purchase price and the accompanying annual costs, however, often dare to stand in the way of that dream. With SeaNet Europe, the Limburg entrepreneur Matty Zadnikar makes owning a private yacht a lot more accessible and easier.

“Through co-ownership of yachts, people own their own boats in a perfectly economically justifiable way. A luxury yacht can cost eight to ten million euros, as a co-owner, you only pay part of that amount and the annual costs are shared. The European sailing season lasts about 28 weeks and most owners spend five to six weeks on their yacht. If four people co-own one boat, they are each guaranteed seven weeks of sailing. For most, that is more than enough.”

Hoe is dit revolutionaire concept ontstaan?

“In 2014 nam ik een ‘sabbatical’ nadat ik mijn succesvol bedrijf Z-Safety (actief in verhuur, beheer en onderhoud van veiligheidsmateriaal, nvdr) had verkocht. Ik ging varen. Ik heb altijd al een passie gehad voor boten, van kindsbeen af. Na 25 jaar werken – ik startte mijn carrière trouwens in de Limburgse mijnen als zeventienjarige – was dat echt ontspannen.

Tegelijk ontstond het verlangen om iets nieuws te beginnen. Het leek me wel boeiend om van mijn hobby mijn beroep te maken. Ik sprak met veel booteigenaars en stelde vast dat ze allemaal met dezelfde problemen te maken krijgen. Ze betalen handenvol geld voor hun boot en bijkomende kosten zoals onderhoud, personeel en verzekeringen. Maar de meesten varen hooguit vijf tot zes weken per jaar. Bovendien moeten ze, eens ze op hun jacht zijn, allerlei ‘bootzaken’ regelen. Van ontspanning is dus weinig sprake, terwijl dat net hetgeen is waarnaar ze op zoek zijn. Ik ging op zoek naar een vernieuwende oplossing om deze problematiek op vlak van geld, crew en management aan te pakken. Ik kwam uit bij het Amerikaanse bedrijf SeaNet, dat zich richt op het co-eigenaarschap van luxejachten. In Amerika is de ‘sharing economy’ al flink ingeburgerd. Ik werd voor 50% partner van het bedrijf en richtte vervolgens SeaNet Europe op.”

Je gebruikt dus als het ware je persoonlijke ervaringen als jachteigenaar om andere eigenaars te helpen?

“Zo kan je het wel stellen. Mijn positie als ‘ervaringsdeskundige’ en eigenaar is een belangrijke troef van SeaNet. Ik ben al jaren actief in de jachtwereld en ik ken intussen de valkuilen en gevaren. Ik ben zelf nauw betrokken geweest bij de bouw van mijn persoonlijk jacht, een 28 meter lange Benetti Delfino. Het is een boeiende sector, maar wie niet oplet, kan flink bedrogen worden. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat co-eigenaarschap de toekomst is, ook in andere sectoren trouwens.”

Wat als mensen toch liever alleen een eigen jacht willen aankopen?

Dat kan perfect via ons verlopen. We begeleiden mensen bij de aankoop of verkoop van luxejachten vanaf 28 meter. We geven advies over de merken, de verschillende types helpen hen bij het opzetten van een ‘ownership company’ en tal van andere praktische zaken zoals de registraties en dergelijke meer. Tot slot voorzien we ook het volledige management van de boot zoals crewselectie en -training.

How did this revolutionary concept arise?

“In 2014, I took a sabbatical after selling my successful company Z-Safety [which operates in rental, management and maintenance of safety equipment] and I went sailing. I have always had a passion for boats, ever since I was a child. After 25 years of working – I started my career in the Limburg mines as a seventeen-year-old – being on my yacht was really relaxing. At the same time, the desire to start something new arose. I thought it would be fascinating to turn my hobby into my profession. I spoke with many boat owners and noticed that they all have to deal with the same problems. They pay a great deal of money for their boat and additional costs such as maintenance, staff and insurance. However, most of them sail no more than five to six weeks a year. Moreover, once they are on their yacht, they have deal with many affairs relating to the boat. That means there is little room for relaxation, which is what they are looking for. I went looking for an innovative solution to tackle this problem in terms of money, crew and management. I ended up with the American company SeaNet, which focuses on the co-ownership of luxury yachts. In America, the sharing economy is already well established. I became a 50% partner of the company and then founded SeaNet Europe.”

So you use your personal experiences as a yacht owner, as it were, to help other owners?

“That is indeed the way to put it. My position as an experienced yacht expert and owner is an important asset of SeaNet. I have been active in the yacht industry for years and I am aware of the pitfalls and dangers. I was closely involved in the construction of my personal yacht – a 28-meter long Benetti Delfino. It is an interesting sector, but those who do not pay attention can be deeply deceived. I am convinced that co-ownership is the future, also in other sectors.”

What if people prefer purchasing their own yacht by themselves?

“That is also perfectly possible with SeaNet. We assist people in the purchase or sale of luxury yachts starting from 28 meters. We give advice on the brands, the different types, we help them set up an ownership company and assist in many other practical matters such as registrations and such. Finally, we also provide the full management of the boat such as crew selection and training.”

Het zijn nieuwe, krachtige machines die niet begrensd zijn en vlotjes snelheden van 140 tot 150 kilometer per uur halen. Ideaal voor een groepje mannen! (lacht) Door onze kleine groepen kunnen we ook erg flexibel zijn. Als mensen het na een excursie koud hebben en snakken naar een warm bad terwijl anderen nog wat willen blijven, kunnen we perfect de koukleumen al terugbrengen naar onze verblijfplaats. Als je reist met een grote groep is dat niet mogelijk en moet je je aanpassen aan het tempo van de anderen. Zo haal je vaak minder uit je reis… Uiteraard heeft onze topkwaliteit een prijs, maar we merken dat onze klanten maar al te graag betalen voor deze meerwaarde omdat het hen een unieke reiservaring biedt.”

Bieden jullie ook een pakket aan dat goedkoper is?

“Sinds kort hebben we een groepsformule waarbij men aansluit bij een internationale groep. Alle excursies gaan door op vaste tijdstippen en er is geen mogelijkheid om te schuiven in de planning. Ook op de samenstelling van de groep hebben we geen zicht. Maar het is een goed alternatief voor wie Lapland wil ontdekken aan een goedkopere prijs.”

What is the best time to travel to Lapland?

“The magic of Finnish Lapland is best discovered in winter when the frozen rivers and the snow-covered trees have turned the landscape into a wonderful fairy tale scene. January and February are the ideal months. Of course, it is ice cold then but that is part of the experience. After all, what is Lapland without a layer of snow? (laughs) We also provide all travelers with a nice warm thermal suit to defy the low temperatures and fully enjoy the trip.”

There are many providers of Lapland trips nowadays. How does ALS Travel stand out?

“First of all, we have very good contacts with local companies. Our snowmobiles are truly state-of-the-art. New, powerful machines that are not limited and easily reach speeds of 140 to 150 kilometres per hour. Perfect for a group of men! (laughs) Because of our small groups we can also be very flexible. If people are cold after an excursion and long for a hot bath while others would like to stay a little longer, it is no problem to bring back the shivery ones to our hotel. If you travel with a large group, that is not possible and you have to adapt to the pace of the others. That way, you often get less out of your trip… Of course, our top quality has its price, but we notice that our customers are happy to pay for this added value because it offers them a unique travel experience.”

Do you also offer a package that is cheaper?

“Recently we developed a group formula in which people join an international group. All excursions take place at fixed times and it is not possible to shift in the schedule. We also have no view on the composition of the group. Still, it is a good alternative for those who want to discover Lapland at a cheaper price.”

Bij ASL-JetNetherlands draait alles in de eerste plaats om service. Voor elk type reis, is er een geschikt toestel en team dat voor u klaar staat. Ons team zorgt ervoor dat alle reisaanvragen snel en tot in de puntjes behandeld worden en liggen hiermee aan de basis van ons succes. We geven onze medewerkers dan ook graag even het woord, zodat u een leuk beeld krijgt van ons ruim aanbod aan services.

1. Missie: medische en transplantvluchten // Team: David Dekyver “Al 18 jaar sta ik bij ASL in voor de verkoop, verhuur en coördinatie van vliegtuigen en vliegreizen. Ik ben in het bijzonder verantwoordelijk voor medisch transport, bijvoorbeeld van organen. Bij dergelijk urgent transport mag er niks fout lopen.

Ik ben dag en nacht bereikbaar en wanneer ik een oproep krijg van een ziekenhuis, zorg ik dat er binnen de kortste keren een vliegtuig vertrekkensklaar staat. Mijn werk is mijn leven en mijn omgeving weet dat. Als ik bijvoorbeeld op restaurant ben met vrienden en ik word gecontacteerd voor een orgaantransport, dan krijgt dat voorrang. Zonder deze gedrevenheid kan ik mijn job niet met hart en ziel uitvoeren. Weten dat we met ons team het leven van een patiënt kunnen redden, geeft veel voldoening.”

2. Missie: DJ summer tours // Team: Lydia Kozijn-De Kruif “In de zomer trekken veel DJ’s en muziekgroepen de wereld rond. Uiteraard doen ze dat graag in het grootste comfort en vrijheid en daar zijn wij voor. We regelen alles voor hen, van vluchten tot grondtransport en verblijf ter plaatse. Zo verschijnen ze fris en monter ‘on stage’! Met deze dienstverlening richten we ons ook op bedrijven, zoals bedrijfsleiders die een ‘toer’ doen van verschillende locaties. Zo hoeven ze zich niet bezig te houden met praktische beslommeringen en kunnen ze hun aandacht richten op hun job. Dergelijke langere projecten zijn fijn voor de crew, want zo ontstaat er een leuke band met de klant, wat zorgt voor een aangename sfeer aan boord.”

1. Mission: medical and transplant flights // Team: David Dekyver “I have been taking care of the sales, rental and coordination of aircraft and air travel at ASL for 18 years now. I am particularly responsible for medical transport, for example of organs. In such urgent transport, nothing can go wrong. People can reach me day and night and when I receive a call from a hospital, I make sure that in no time an aircraft is ready to leave.

My job is my life and the people around me know that. For example, if I am at a restaurant with friends and I am contacted for an organ transport, that will take precedence. Without this passion, I would not be able to put my heart and soul in my job. Knowing that we can save a patient’s life with our team is very satisfying.”

Fleet: Cessna Citation Mustang, the Cessna Citation Jet, the Cessna Citation CJ2+ (image1) and the Piaggio Avanti 2 “We use four planes for our medical flights. The Cessna Citation Mustang, the Cessna Citation Jet, the Cessna Citation CJ2+ and the Piaggio Avanti 2 have the ideal speed for urgent transports and are quite compact, allowing them to land at smaller airports.”

2. Mission: DJ summer tours // Team: Lydia Kozijn-De Kruif “In the summer, many DJs and bands travel around the world. Of course they like to do so in the greatest comfort and freedom and that is what we are for. We arrange everything for them, from flights to ground transport and accommodation. After all, they have to appear fresh and lively on stage! With this service we also focus on companies, such as business leaders who do a tour of different locations. That way, they need not worry about practical issues and they can direct their attention on their job. Such longer projects are great for the crew because they create a nice bond with the customer, which ensures a pleasant vibe on board.”

3. Missie: Blue Sky Aviation // Team: Bjorn Mollet “Met Blue Sky Aviation richten we ons op mensen die op regelmatige basis vliegen, zowel voor ‘business’ als voor ‘pleasure’. Wie lid wordt van de club, kan op ons rekenen om op een snelle, veilige en betaalbare manier op de gekozen bestemming te geraken. Wij zoeken steeds naar het beste vliegtuig en toestel in functie van de bestemming. Blue Sky Aviation is meer dan vliegen, we regelen bijvoorbeeld ook heli- of taxivervoer na aankomst.”

Vloot: Cessna Citation Mustang (foto3) & Pilatus PC-12 NG “De Pilatus PC-12 NG is een ruim toestel met cargodeuren. Dit maakt het ideaal om te gaan jagen of fietsen omdat er veel materiaal in kan. We zetten het ook in voor skireizen naar Courchevel. De luchthaven daar is heel technisch en weergevoelig maar met de Pilatus kunnen we er probleemloos landen. De mensen staan dan op een paar minuten in hun hotel en op de piste, wat super is. Anders zijn ze vaak anderhalf uur onderweg van de luchthaven naar het skigebied. De Cessna Citation Mustang is iets kleiner maar ook sneller. Dit toestel is geschikt voor kleinere groepen die in alle comfort willen reizen.”

4. Missie: long haul vluchten // Team: Matthieu Dardenne “Bij vluchten buiten Europa of langer dan drie uur, zijn extra voorzieningen nodig zoals maaltijden, slaapfaciliteiten… Het is dan ook belangrijk dat de reizigers af en toe kunnen rondstappen in de cabine om de benen te strekken. Ze moeten zich thuis voelen aan boord, zodat ze niet geradbraakt op hun eindbestemming aankomen. We vliegen regelmatig naar Afrika, bijvoorbeeld met zakenmensen die een site ter plaatse willen bezoeken. Dergelijke opdrachten zijn soms uitdagend omdat niet alle luchthavens even vlot bereikbaar zijn. In principe kunnen we overal landen, maar het spreekt voor zich dat veiligheid altijd op de eerste plaats komt. Voor mij is het een droom om in deze sector te werken en dagelijks met vliegtuigen bezig te zijn. Ik ben altijd al gefascineerd geweest door vliegen. Mijn papa had een eigen toestel en ik heb zelf ook een opleiding gevolgd tot hobbypiloot.”

3. Mission: Blue Sky Aviation // Team: Bjorn Mollet “With Blue Sky Aviation we focus on people who fly on a regular basis, both for business and for pleasure. Anyone who joins the club can count on us to get to the chosen destination in a fast, safe and affordable way. We always search for the best plane and aircraft, considering the destination. Blue Sky Aviation is more than flying, we also arrange helicopter or taxi transport after arrival.”

Fleet: Cessna Citation Mustang (image3) & Pilatus PC-12 NG “The Pilatus PC-12 NG is a spacious device with cargo doors. This makes it ideal for hunting or cycling as it can store a lot of material. We also use it for ski trips to Courchevel. The airport there is very technical and weather sensitive, but with the Pilatus we can land without problems. In a few minutes’ time, the people are at their hotel and on the slopes, which is great. Otherwise, they often have to travel an hour and a half from the airport to the ski area. The Cessna Citation Mustang is slightly smaller but also faster. This aircraft is suitable for smaller groups who want to travel comfortably.”

4. Mission: long haul flights // Team: Matthieu Dardenne “Flights outside Europe or longer than three hours require additional provisions such as meals, sleeping facilities, etc. It is therefore important that passengers can step around in the cabin every now and then to stretch their legs. They must feel at home on board, so they are not dead-beat when they arrive at their final destination. We regularly fly to Africa, for example with business people who want to visit a site. Such assignments are sometimes challenging because not all airports are as easy to access. In principle, we can land anywhere, but it goes without saying that safety always comes first.

For me, working in this sector and being around airplanes every day is a dream come true. I have always been fascinated by flying. My dad had his own plane and I also took a training to become a recreational pilot.”

5. Missie: aircraft management // Team: Jamilla Kirindongo “Ik sta in voor het beheer van de vliegtuigen van een aantal eigenaren. Ik stel voor hen de volledige planning op van A tot Z. Ik zorg dat hun toestel kan opstijgen op de gewenste dag en plaats, regel de catering, leg het transport vast op de bestemming en eventueel een overnachting of een vergaderzaal… Het is dus meer dan vliegen alleen. Elke dag is anders en dat is de reden waarom ik dit zo graag doe, al elf jaar lang! Soms krijg ik moeilijke vragen, bijvoorbeeld van klanten die zich op hun eindbestemming met een boot willen verplaatsen. Of zakenmensen die meerdere bestemmingen op één dag willen aandoen en dan ’s avonds ‘gewoon’ weer thuis aan de eettafel willen zitten, bij hun familie. Maar alles is mogelijk als je ‘out of the box’ denkt!”

Vloot: Cessna Citation Sovereign (foto5) “De Cessna Citation Sovereign is bijzonder door de dubbele club seating, wat betekent dat er twee keer vier stoelen tegenover elkaar staan. Zo kan een gezelschap van acht personen comfortabel samen zitten in de cabine. Het is een ruim en stil toestel met een lange range. Een echt paradepaardje!”

6. Missie: cabin service // Team: Milou & Claudia “Wanneer ik als hostess mee vlieg met een klant, ben ik verantwoordelijk voor de catering en zorg ik dat de passagiers een fijne vlucht hebben. Ik vind het belangrijk om rekening te houden met hun speciale wensen. Van kaviaar en sushi tot glutenvrije broodjes en Wilhelmina-pepermuntjes: alles kan. De klant is koning en ik stel mezelf flexibel op. Ik vlieg ook vaak mee met verhuurde vluchten zodat de passagiers toch een bekend gezicht zien. Het allermooiste aan deze functie is wanneer passagiers tevreden van boord gaan. Een klein compliment na de vlucht is voor mij al voldoende. Uiteraard gaat het niet enkel over de service die we bieden aan de klant, het is ook belangrijk dat ik goed samenwerk met de piloten, want we zorgen er samen, als één team, voor dat de vlucht perfect verloopt.”

Vloot: Challenger 605 (foto6) “De Bombardier Challenger 605 vind ik één van de aangenaamste vliegtuigen in onze vloot. Het vliegtuig is relatief breed, dus voor mij is het ideaal om in te werken qua ruimte in de cabine. Het interieur is prachtig en alles is mooi afgewerkt met donkerbruin hout. Het toestel beschikt over een ruime keuken, twee tv-schermen, een zitbank om lekker te relaxen tijdens de vlucht… Ik kijk al uit naar mijn volgende trip met dit vliegtuig!”

5. Mission: aircraft management // Team: Jamilla Kirindongo “I am responsible for managing the aircraft of a number of owners. I prepare their entire planning from A to Z. I ensure that their aircraft can take off on the desired day and location, arrange the catering, book the transport at the destination and if necessary an overnight stay or a meeting room… You see it is more than flying alone. No two days are the same and that is why I love this so much, for eleven years already! Sometimes I get difficult questions, for example from customers who want to travel by boat on their final destination. Or business people who want to visit multiple destinations in one day and then be back at the dinner table with their family in the evening. However, everything is possible as long as you think out of the box!”

Fleet: Cessna Citation Sovereign (image5) “The Cessna Citation Sovereign is special because of the double club seating, which means that two rows of four seats face each other. This way, a group of eight people can comfortably sit together in the cabin. It is a spacious and quite aircraft with a long range. A real showpiece!”

6. Mission: cabin service // Team: Milou & Claudia “When I fly with a customer as a hostess, I am responsible for the catering and I ensure that the passengers have a nice flight. I think it is important to take account of their special wishes. From caviar and sushi to gluten-free rolls and Wilhelmina peppermints: everything is possible. The customer is king and I keep a flexible mind. I also often fly with rented flights to ensure the passengers see a familiar face. The most beautiful moment in this job is when passengers leave the ship satisfied. A small compliment after the flight is enough for me. Of course, it is not just about the service we offer to the customer. It is also important that I work well with the pilots, because together we ensure, as one team, that the flight goes perfect.”

Fleet: Challenger 605 (image6) “I think the Bombardier Challenger 605 is one of the most enjoyable planes in our fleet. The plane is relatively wide, so for me it is ideal to work in considering the space in the cabin. The interior is beautiful and everything is nicely finished with dark brown wood. The plane has a spacious kitchen, two TV screens, a bench to relax during the flight… I am already looking forward to my next trip with this plane!”

FLOATING DANCE FESTIVAL

The Ark is een drijvend dancefestival op zee dat werd opgericht door enkele Belgische ondernemers. “De eerste editie, die plaatsvond in september 2017, viel in de smaak bij de 3.500 danceliefhebbers, die vier nachten en drie dagen uit de bol gingen op elektronische muziek. Daarom zetten we voor de tweede editie twee luxueuze cruiseschepen in,” vertelt projectontwikkelaar Christophe Verstraete, één van de acht investeerders in dit project.

The Ark is a floating dance festival at sea that was founded by a few Belgian entrepreneurs. “The first edition, which took place in September 2017, was highly appreciated by the 3,500 dance lovers who partied four nights and three days on electronic music.

That is why we will be deploying two luxury cruise ships for the second edition”, says project developer Christophe Verstraete, one of the eight investors in this project.

Christophe, hoe blik je terug op de eerste editie van The Ark? “Het was fantastisch. Het decor op zich was al magnifiek: The Freedom of The Seas, één van ’s werelds grootste cruiseschepen. Het 340 meter lange schip werd getransformeerd tot ‘party boat’. We zijn trots dat we van bij de eerste editie hebben kunnen uitpakken met een ijzersterkte affiche. In zeven zalen gaven dj’s als Cassius, Felix Da Housecat, Sven Väth en Martin Solveig het beste van zichzelf. Iedereen keek uit naar het optreden van 2ManyDJs: de Belgische dj-broers blijven tot de verbeelding spreken. Ze geven niet vaak optredens in eigen land. Als je ze dan in openlucht op het bovenste dek van een cruiseschip aan het werk kan zien, in het midden van de nacht op de Middellandse Zee: dat is uniek. De ‘big smile’ van de gasten bij het verlaten van het schip op het einde van de reis was hét ultieme bewijs dat we in onze missie geslaagd waren.”

In 2018 vaart The Ark twee keer uit: dat is een mooi vooruitzicht!

“We zien het inderdaad groter. The Ark zal begin september twee keer uitvaren voor een periode van vijf dagen. De vaarroute loopt tussen Barcelona, Sète, Ibiza en Palma de Mallorca, waar de gasten de kans krijgen om de sfeer van de stad op te snuiven en cultuur mee te pikken tussen het feesten door. We varen met een kleiner schip: The Visions of The Seas, waar 2.500 mensen aan boord kunnen. The Freedom wordt namelijk in Amerika verwacht. Maar geen nood, want de boot is een even grote parel met alles erop en eraan!”

Kan je al iets kwijt over de dj’s die dit jaar hun opwachting maken op The Ark? “De muziekliefhebbers worden op hun wenken bediend. De ‘Chosen Ones’ kunnen maar liefst 111 dj’s aan het werk zien, gespreid over vier podia en twee afvaarten. We zijn erin geslaagd een aantal ‘kleppers’ te strikken die de bezoekers zullen verwennen met sprankelende dj-sets. Waar kijk je vooral naar uit dit jaar?

“Ik ben benieuwd naar de faciliteiten die het schip te bieden heeft en alle extra’s die we daar als organisatie aan toevoegen. Als échte Belg hou ik van lekker eten en drinken en daar zal geen gebrek aan zijn. Naast de restaurants en bars van het schip zelf nodigen we vier ‘guest chefs’ uit. Zij nemen voor één of meerdere avonden de keukens van de à la carte restaurants over. Uit Nederland hebben we de gerenommeerde chef Ron Blauw en de hippe ChinChinClub weten te strikken. De Oesterput uit Blankenberge verwent de passagiers met hun overheerlijke zeevruchten. Een hoogtepunt wordt de avond waarop Michael Vrijmoed van Restaurant Vrijmoed achter de kookpotten zal staan. Met twee Michelinsterren wordt dit een culinaire topavond! Verder zijn we vereerd dat Copperhead Gin The Ark heeft gekozen voor hun internationale cocktailwedstrijd ‘The Alchemist Experience’. Tien van ’s werelds beste ‘mixologists’ strijden aan boord voor een plaats in de finale. Daarbij zitten grote namen als Eric Lorincz, head bartender van The American Bar van The Savoy Hotel (#1 volgens worlds50bestbars), Marian Beke en Martina Breznanova van de Londense The Gibson Bar (#21 volgens worlds50bestbars) en Tony Pescatori van The Nightjar (#43 volgens worlds50bestbars). Wie is de typische bezoeker van ‘The Ark’?

“We hebben ons van bij het begin duidelijk geprofileerd als ‘minivakantie’ met een mix van de beste dj’s en het comfort van één van de mooiste cruiseschepen ter wereld. Die aanpak heeft gewerkt. We hebben een gemengd publiek dat om uiteenlopende redenen meevaart. Van vrienden en vriendinnen onder elkaar tot koppels en zelfs ouders met hun kinderen…of was het andersom en mochten de ouders mee? (lacht). Daarnaast kan iedereen genieten van lekker eten en drinken en alle faciliteiten van het schip. Je kan The Ark volledig beleven op je eigen tempo. Ga je liever wat vroeger naar bed om de volgende dag een excursie te maken? Dat kan perfect! Dit jaar voorzien we trouwens nog meer stops onderweg en blijven we zelfs een volle dag aangemeerd in Ibiza.”

Christophe, how do you look back at the first edition of The Ark? “It was awesome. The setting itself was magnificent: The Freedom of The Seas, one of world’s largest cruise ships. The 340-meter-long ship was transformed into a party boat. We are proud that we have been able to boast a cast-iron lineup from the very first edition. In seven halls, DJs like Cassius, Felix Da Housecat, Sven Väth and Martin Solveig gave the best of themselves. Everyone was looking forward to the show of 2ManyDJs: the Belgian DJ brothers continue to appeal to the imagination. They do not often give shows in their own country. If you can see them perform outdoors on the top deck of a cruise ship in the middle of the night on the Mediterranean: that is quite unique. The big smile of the guests when leaving the ship at the end of the trip was the ultimate proof that we had succeeded in our mission.”

In 2018 The Ark will be setting sail twice: that is a nice prospect!

“We indeed see it bigger. The Ark will set sail twice at the beginning of September for a period of five days. The sailing route runs between Barcelona, Sète, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca, where the guests have the opportunity to inhale the atmosphere of the city and to sniff up some culture in between parties. We will be sailing with a smaller ship: The Visions of the Seas, which can host 2,500 people. The Freedom is expected in America at that time. However, no need to worry, the boat is a gem of the same kind with all the trimmings!”

Can you already disclose something about the DJs that will be performing on The Ark this year?

“Music lovers will find all that they are looking for. The ‘Chosen Ones’ can see no less than 111 DJs at work, spread over four stages and two sailings. We have succeeded in getting a number of big names who will spoil the visitors with sparkling DJ sets. Faithless, Camelphat, Tchami, Dada Life, Henri PFR… It is just a selection from our promising lineup. I can tell you already that it will again be hard to choose!”

What in particular do you look forward to this year?

“I am curious about the facilities the ship has to offer and all the extras that we add to it with our organization. As a true Belgian, I love good food and drinks and there will be no shortage of that. In addition to the restaurants and the bars of the ship itself, we invite four guest chefs. They will take over the kitchen of the à la carte restaurants for one or more evenings. From the Netherlands, we are proud to have the renowned chef Ron Blauw and the trendy ChinChinClub. De Oesterput from Blankenberge will spoil the passengers with their delicious seafood. A highlight will be the evening that Michael Vrijmoed from Restaurant Vrijmoed will take place behind the stove. As he has two Michelin stars, this promises to be a culinary top night! Furthermore, we are honoured that Copperhead Gin has chosen The Ark as the venue for their international cocktail competition ‘The Alchemist Experience’. Ten of the world’s best mixologists will be competing on board for a place in the finals. Among them are big names such as Eric Lorincz, head bartender of The American Bar of The Savoy Hotel (# 1 according to worlds50bestbars), Marian Beke and Martina Breznanonva from The Gibson Bar in London (# 21 according to worlds50bestbars) and Tony Pescatori from The Nightjar (# 43 according to worlds50bestbars).

They will pour the best Copperhead cocktails from their shakers for our guests.”

Who is the typical visitor of The Ark? “From the beginning, we have clearly profiled ourselves as a mini holiday with a mix of the best DJs and the comfort of one the most beautiful cruise ships in the world. That approach has worked. We have a mixed audience that joins us for various reasons. From groups of friends to couples and even parents with their children… or is it the other way around and do the children bring their parents? (laughs). On top of that, everyone can enjoy good food and drinks and all the facilities of the ship. You are fully free to experience the Ark at your own pace. Do you prefer to go to bed a little earlier to make an excursion the next day? That is perfectly possible! This year we plan more stops on the way and we will even stay moored a full day in Ibiza.”

Halverwege 2017 was het groot nieuws in alle media: Wout Bru en Marc Coucke zouden gaan samenwerken in de Ardennen in Le Sanglier des Ardennes. “Ik ken Marc al zo’n 25 jaar. Hij was reeds klant van mij van bij het begin toen ik in de Provence actief was.

Later heb ik ook verschillende keren voor hem privé gekookt. Hij vond dat ik terug op de kaart moest komen en moedigde mij aan om mee te stappen in het verhaal in Durbuy. Toen hij het totale plaatje aan mij voorstelde, dat hij samen met Bart Maerten aan het uitwerken was voor La Petite Merveille, was ik meteen overtuigd,” aldus Wout Bru.

Halfway through 2017 it was hot topic on all media: Wout Bru and Marc Coucke would work together in Le Sanglier des Ardennes. “I have known Marc for about 25 years. He was already a customer of mine at the start when I worked in Provence. Later on, I also cooked private meals for him several times. He thought I needed to get back on the map and encouraged me to join him in the Durbuy story.

When he presented me the complete picture that he was working out with Bart Maerten for La Petite Merveille, I was convinced right away”, says Wout Bru.

Jullie zijn nu bijna een jaar bezig. Hoe waren de eerste reacties?

Zeer lovend, zeker ook op La Bru’sserie, waar we al het verst staan in onze plannen. Le Sanglier des Ardennes was natuurlijk een instituut. Iedere Vlaming afkomstig uit de middenhoge en hogere klasse is daar ooit wel al eens geweest in zijn kindertijd met ouders of grootouders en dan blijf je daar ook naar terugkomen uiteraard. De mensen zijn blij dat er gemoderniseerd wordt, weliswaar met respect voor de tradities opgebouwd door de vorige eigenaars.

Waar staan jullie momenteel met de renovatieplannen?

In januari, februari en maart zijn we een tijdje gesloten geweest. In die periode hebben we de spa gerenoveerd en in omvang verdubbeld. Alle kamers werden in een nieuw kleedje gestoken en ook de bar en de inkomhal werden aangepakt. De receptie ligt nu aan de overkant van de straat. Heel leuk is ook de sigarencorner die volledig vernieuwd werd, net als de wijnkelder. In de toekomst zal dan ook nog het hotel ‘Jean de Bohême’ aan de overkant opgefrist worden.

Wat is het grootste verschil tussen de Wout Bru in de Provence en de Wout Bru in de Ardennen?

Het weer! (lacht) In de Provence is alles beetje bij beetje gegroeid. Hier begin je meteen met een groot project en moet je alles hervormen. Het is een geweldige uitdaging natuurlijk, niet evident ook. Je moet het personeel volledig binnen de nieuw uitgestipelde lijn laten lopen, daar kruipt wel wat werk in. Gelukkig is het niet het eerste horecaproject waar ik aan begin. Kijk, alles heeft natuurlijk zijn tijd nodig, maar met de ondersteuning van Marc kan je wel wat sneller gaan natuurlijk. Ik ben vooral blij dat ik mij kan toespitsen op waar ik goed in ben en dat is koken. In de Provence moest ik mij bezig houden met de verlichting en de tuin, terwijl ik mij dat hier niet moet aantrekken. Dat zorgt ergens wel voor een zekere mentale rust. Niet dat ik geen stress heb, ik moet ook presteren, maar het is toch anders. Wat dan weer wel parallel loopt met de Provence, is het feit dat je hier als Vlaming toekomt in een streek waar je niemand kent. De namen Bru en Coucke kunnen wel eens arrogant overkomen bij sommige mensen, hoewel dat helemaal niet zo is. Je hebt dus even de tijd nodig om dat beeld te corrigeren, waar dat nodig is.

Waar willen jullie graag naartoe?

We zitten nu in een overgangsfase met heel veel veranderingen, maar binnen anderhalf jaar moet het project volledig af zijn en op de rails staan. Eerlijke erkenning in de culinaire gidsen zou daarbij mooi meegenomen zijn. Wij richten ons in de week meer op de business incentives en tijdens het weekend heb je dan weer heel veel particulieren. In die zin is het een heel andere manier van horeca bedrijven. Maar voor wie we ook werken, het moet top zijn!

Je zit in de jachtstreek bij uitstek, hou je hier ook rekening mee op de menukaart?

Op dat vlak kunnen we nog stappen zetten en we willen hier dan ook sterk op inspelen, zeker tijdens het jachtseizoen.

Daarnaast vind je in deze regio veel champignons en ook dat is een product die we centraal willen plaatsen. Met wild kun je echter heel veel richtingen uit. Zelf ben ik enorm fan van de watersnip en de goudsnip. Ook al mocht dat niet, toch serveerde ik dat wel eens in de Provence. Ik dacht het hier in de Ardennen te kunnen brengen, maar het bleek helaas ook niet toegelaten. De hazenrug of haas in het algemeen blijft voor mij één van de klassiekers. Samen met een hert is het één van de weinige dieren die nog echt ‘wild’ is. Dat is ook de reden dat de smaak zo uitgesproken naar voor komt. Een everzwijn zelf vind ik eigenlijk niet lekker van smaak, maar om onze naam toch eer aan te doen gaan we kleine everzwijntjes ‘Marcassins’ op de kaart zetten, die zijn heerlijk.

Ben je zelf al eens op jacht geweest?

Ik heb veel vrienden en kennissen die jachtliefhebbers zijn. Dankzij hen heb ik al verschillende keren de kans gehad om als tracker mee te gaan naar Spanje, Engeland of hier in de Ardennen. Zelf heb ik geen jachtvergunning, maar ik vind het ongemeen boeiend. Afhankelijk van de diersoort waarop men jacht maakt, is het ene al wat leuker dan het andere, maar sowieso is het volop genieten van al het moois wat de natuur te bieden heeft. Wat kan een mens meer verlangen?

“Zelf ben ik enorm fan van de watersnip en de goudsnip. Ook al mocht dat niet, toch serveerde ik dat wel eens in de Provence. Ik dacht het hier in de Ardennen te kunnen brengen, maar het bleek helaas ook niet toegelaten.”

You have been working on it for almost a year now. How were the first reactions?

Full of praise, also when it comes to La Bru’sserie, for which our plans are developed the furthest. Le Sanglier des Ardennes was, of course, an institution. There is no Fleming from the middle-high and higher class who has never been there in his childhood with parents or grandparents and of course, they keep coming back. People are happy it is being modernized, albeit with respect for the traditions built up by the previous owners.

Where are you currently with the renovation plans?

We have been closed for a while in January, February and March. In that period, we renovated the spa and doubled in size.

All rooms were given a new look and also the bar and the entrance hall were revamped. The reception is now across the street. What is also very nice is the cigar corner that was completely renewed, just like the wine cellar. In the future, the hotel ‘Jean de Bohême’ across the street will be refreshed as well.

What is the biggest difference between Wout Bru in the Provence region and Wout Bru in the Ardennes?

The weather! (laughs). In the Provence region, it all has grown little by little. Here you start immediately with a big project and you have to reform everything. It is of course a great challenge, but not that easy. You have to get your staff run completely within the newly created lines, which takes a lot of work. Fortunately, it is not the first hospitality project I set up.

Look, it goes without saying that everything takes its time but with Marc’s support you can go a little faster. I am especially glad that I can focus on what I am good at and that is cooking. In Provence I had to take care of the lighting and the garden, while here I can leave that to others. That brings some mental peace. I am not saying that I have no stress, I have to perform but it is different. What does run parallel with the Provence region is the fact that you come here as a Fleming in a region where you do not know anybody. The names Bru and Coucke may seem arrogant to some people, even though that is not the case at all. That means you need the time to correct that image where necessary.

“I myself am a huge fan of the snipe and the painted snipe. Even though I was not allowed to, I did serve it sometimes in Provence. I thought I would be able to bring it here in the Ardennes, but unfortunately it turned out to be not allowed as well.”

Where do you want to go?

We are now in a transition phase with many changes, but within one year and a half the project must be completely finished and on track. Honest recognition in the culinary guides would be nice. After all, on weekdays we focus more on the business incentives and during the weekend we see a lot of private individuals. In that sense, it is a completely different kind of hospitality. Nevertheless, whoever we are working for, it must be top!

You are in the ultimate hunting region; do you take account of it on the menu?

We can still take steps in this area and we want to respond strongly to this, especially during the hunting season. In addition, this region has a lot of mushrooms and that is also a product that we want to focus on. When it comes to game, you can go in many directions. I myself am a huge fan of the snipe and the painted snipe. Even though I was not allowed to, I did serve it sometimes in Provence. I thought I would be able to bring it here in the Ardennes, but unfortunately it turned out to be not allowed as well. Hare back or hare in general remains one of the classics for me. Together with deer, it is one of the few animals that is still genuinely ‘game’. That is also the reason that the taste is so distinctive. I do not really like the taste of wild boar that much but to honour our name we are going to put little wild boars ‘Marcassins’ on the menu, they are delicious.

Have you ever been hunting yourself?

I have many friends and acquaintances who are hunting lovers. Thanks to them, I have had the opportunity several times to go with them as a tracker to Spain, England or here in the Ardennes. I myself do not have a hunting license, but I find it extraordinarily fascinating. Depending on the species you are hunting, one is more fun than the other, but in any case, it is fully enjoying all the beauty nature has to offer. What more can you desire?

Als ik de foto’s opnieuw even boven haal die genomen werden op zaterdag en zondag, kan ik niet anders dan een tevreden man zijn met zo’n massale volkstoeloop. Wat mij ook enorm plezier doet, is dat steeds meer Europeanen en dan voornamelijk mensen uit de ons omringende landen de weg vinden naar Knokke-Heist.

Hebben jullie definitief een plaats verworven tussen de beste automobielevents ter wereld?

Philippe: We horen wel eens uit de mond van anderen dat we vergeleken worden met roemrijke organisaties zoals Pebble Beach en Villa d’Este, maar eigenlijk streven wij er naar om het meest unieke autofestival te zijn. Het gaat bij ons veel meer om ‘good feelings’ en mensen de tijd van hun leven te bezorgen.

Filip: Dat zit hem in veel kleine zaken. Met de Zoute Rally gaan wij nooit een lunchstop doen in een restaurant. We zorgen altijd voor spectaculaire locaties. Ik denk spontaan aan het bezoek aan de mosselfabriek in Nederland vorig jaar. Dat zijn ervaringen die je niet zelf kan kopen. De meeste van onze rijders kunnen bij wijze van spreken elke week naar een sterrenrestaurant gaan. Het draait allemaal om die ‘priceless experience’ die we hen willen bezorgen.

Wat zijn de nieuwigheden die we dit jaar mogen verwachten?

David: Nieuw zal zijn dat er twee verschillende roadbooks zullen zijn voor de deelnemers van de Zoute Rally. Wie ‘regularity’ rijdt, zal een ander parcours volgen dan wie deelneemt aan de balade. Op gepaste tijdstippen zullen de twee groepen uiteraard wel terug samenkomen, zonder dat ze elkaar hinderen. Ook voor de journalisten voorzien we een speciaal roadbook, waarbij we hen leiden naar de beste plaatsen langs het parcours om foto’s te nemen. Uiteraard zullen ook de autopartners terug talrijk aanwezig zijn. De mooiste premium automerken ter wereld zullen uitpakken met hun allermooiste modellen, waaronder ook enkele avant-premières. Maar veel meer kunnen we nog niet verklappen, anders is de verrassing er af.

Hoe kijken jullie naar de samenwerking met ASL Private Jets?

Philippe: We zijn fier en blij tegelijk, dat we zo’n langdurige relatie hebben weten op te bouwen met hen als trouwe partner. Voor al onze buitenlandse uitstapjes en rally’s, die we ondernemen met de Zoute Automobile Club, kunnen we steeds rekenen op hun unieke medewerking. Als we bijvoorbeeld een autofabriek bezoeken, dan zorgen zij ervoor dat we op de meest comfortabele manier op onze bestemming geraken. Soms is dat met een vliegtuig van vier personen, maar soms voor grote groepen kan dat gaan tot zo’n 30 personen. Dat is werkelijk buitengewoon interessant voor ons. Ook voor de Sotogrande Grand Prix hebben ze in 2017 meegewerkt om alles op dat vlak in goede banen te laten verlopen. We kunnen hen dan ook niet hard genoeg bedanken hiervoor.

Zoute Grand Prix bekeken door de bril van Philip Kantor

Philip Kantor en het wereldvermaarde veilinghuis Bonhams behoren al sinds de beginperiode van de Zoute Grand Prix tot de absolute steunpilaren. Professioneel is hij uiteraard zeer nauw betrokken bij de Zoute Sale, maar hij treedt ook op als directeur van de Zoute Concours d’Elégance. Elk jaar zorgt hij er mede voor dat de ‘crème de la crème’ van de collectiewagens naar Knokke Le Zoute afzakken.

Philip, hoe kijk je terug op de voorbije editie van de Zoute Sale?

Het was voor ons in alle opzichten een recordeditie. We hebben voor het eerst een wagen geveild van meer dan 1 miljoen euro! (nvdr, Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, € 1.428.000 incl. BTW) Daarnaast kenden we ook een buitengewoon sterke ‘sales rate’ van boven de 90%. Er was een schitterende ambiance, heel veel volk, zeer mooie pers, de presentatie was super,… Kortom een editie om niet snel te vergeten.

Hoe blik je terug op de Zoute Concours d’Elégance?

De kwaliteit van de wagens was echt top. Het mindere weer op zaterdag was een beetje een domper op de feestvreugde, maar op zondag was de zon terug van de partij op de Royal Zoute Golf Club, zowel letterlijk als figuurlijk. Het leuke aan de Zoute Concours d’Elégance is dat de mensen er echt op hun gemak zijn. Er hangt totaal geen elitaire examensfeer. Het is ‘a true celebration of cars’.

Hoe zou jij je beste vriend overtuigen om mee te komen naar de Zoute Grand Prix?

Dat is niet moeilijk. Zoute Grand prix valt met niets te vergelijken. Het is een combinatie van heel veel verschillende events en dat is net de sterkte ervan. Een classic car rally, een openlucht autosalon, een concours, een GT Tour, een veiling en dat alles binnen het prachtige decor van Knokke-Heist… Daarenboven is de kwaliteit van de organisatie exceptioneel. Dat vind je nergens anders terug: de tent, de catering, de locaties, de mooie magazines op zondag die reeds de foto’s bevatten van het ganse weekend… Wat wil een mens nog meer? Topwagens, mooie vrouwen en vier dagen genieten van al het moois dat het leven te bieden heeft! Het feit dat iedereen er wil bij zijn en dat er wachtlijsten zijn om te kunnen deelnemen is daarvan het beste bewijs. Gefortuneerde mensen kunnen doen wat ze willen. Ze hoeven niet per se te komen naar de Zoute Grand Prix, maar ze willen er gewoon bij zijn! Dat zegt alles.

Zoute Grand Prix bekeken door de bril van Derek Bell

Derek Bell is sinds vele jaren een graag geziene gast op de Zoute Grand Prix. De Brit, die bij drie van zijn vijf zeges in de 24h van Le Mans team vormde met Jacky Ickx, voelt zich elke keer als een vis in het water, wanneer hij op weg is naar Knokke-Heist.

Als je de volgende keer een vriend zou moeten overtuigen om mee te gaan naar de Zoute Grand Prix, welke argumenten zou je dan gebruiken?

Het is een uniek event en Knokke-Heist is een unieke badplaats. Iedereen heeft zo’n passie voor het hele gebeuren, en dat je er zelfs de burgemeester zo enthousiast ziet rondlopen, is toch wel heel erg zeldzaam. Alles is er bovendien heel erg stijlvol en de massa volk die er op af komt, is ook voor de deelnemers een geweldige ervaring. Het Zoute Concours d’Elégance vind ik bovendien een absoluut pluspunt.

Wat is je beste herinnering aan de Zoute Grand Prix?

Dat is voor mij elke keer weer de ‘Welcome Party’ op donderdagavond in de beach club op het strand. De sfeer en vriendschap tussen de deelnemers met hun mooie rode vestjes zorgt ervoor dat het event elke keer met een knaller start! Dit is iets wat je nergens anders ziet gebeuren. Een ongelofelijke topervaring zo’n ontvangst!

Waar zou je de Zoute Grand Prix ondertussen positioneren, als je het moet vergelijken met andere automobielgebeurens?

Misschien zijn er nog wel grotere namen in de wereld, maar deze organisatie is nog jong en groeit nog elk jaar. Er is eigenlijk ook geen vergelijking mogelijk, want het staat echt op zichzelf als event. Het is zo uniek in zijn genre, dat het elk jaar mijn favoriet is in mijn agenda!

<< Unique in the world of car festivals >> With ASL Private Jets, we have been a loyal partner of one of the most successful automobile experiences in the world for several years now. 2018 is the year of the Zoute Grand Prix’s 9th edition already and we are again looking forward to four exciting days full of car fun. With that in mind, we spoke with both Philip Kantor – International Director of Business Development and Head of European Motorcars at Bonhams – and Derek Bell - former Formula 1 pilot, five-time Le Mans winner and fan of the Zoute Grand Prix. We also had a coffee with the organisers Filip and David Bourgoo and Philippe Van de Ryse.

Gentlemen, how do you look back to last year’s edition?

Filip: We can look back to the 2017 edition with satisfaction. Even though especially on Saturday the weather was a bit disappointing, we had at times as many and at other times even more visitors than in the years before. If I take another look at the photos taken on Saturday and Sunday, I cannot help but be a satisfied man with such a massive crowd. What also greatly pleases me is that more and more Europeans and I mean mainly people from the surrounding countries find their way to Knokke-Heist.

Have you gained a permanent place among the best automobile events in the world?

Philippe: We sometimes hear others say that we are compared to glorious organisations such as Pebble Beach and Villa d’Este, but actually our aim is to be the most unique car festival. For us, it is much more about ‘good feelings’ and giving people the time of their lives.

Filip: That is in many small things. With the Zoute Rally, we will never do a lunch stop at a restaurant. We always look for spectacular locations. Off the top of my head, I recall the visit to the mussel factory in the Netherlands last year. These are experiences that you cannot buy yourself. Most of our drivers can go to a star restaurant every week, so to speak. It is all about the priceless experience that we want to bring them.

What are the novelties that we can expect this year?

David: What is new is that there will be two different roadbooks for the participants of the Zoute Rally. Those who drive ‘regularity’ will follow a different course than those who take part in the stroll. At appropriate times, the two groups will of course come together again without hindering each other. We also provide a special road book for the journalists, in which we lead them to the best places along the course to take pictures.

Philippe: Of course, the car partners will also be present again in large number. The finest beautiful premium car brands in the world will boast their most beautiful models, including some avant-premieres. That is all we can give away for now, otherwise the surprise would be spoiled.

How do you look at the cooperation with ASL Private Jets?

Filip: We are proud and happy at the same time that we have managed to build up such a long-term relationship with them as a loyal partner. For all our foreign trips and rallies that we do with the Zoute Automobile club we can always counts on their unique cooperation. For example, when we visit a car factory, they ensure that we arrive at our destination in the most comfortable way. Sometimes that is with a four-people plane but sometimes for large groups that can go up to 30 people. That is really very interesting for us. For the Sotogrande Grand Prix in 2017, they also helped us to ensure everything went smoothly in that respect. We cannot thank them enough for this.

Zoute Grand Prix according to Philip Kantor

Philip Kantor and the world famous auction house Bonhams have been absolute cornerstones since the Zoute Grand Prix’s very beginning. Professionally, he is of course very closely involved in the Zoute Sale, but he also acts as director of the Zoute Concours d’Elégance. Year after year he helps ensure that the best of the best collectors cars come to Knokke Le Zoute.

Philip, how do you look back to the past edition of the Zoute Sale?

For us, it was a record edition in every respect. We have for the first time auctioned a car of over 1 million euros! (Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, 1,428,000 EUR incl. VAT). On top of that, we also saw an exceptionally strong sales rate of over 90%. There was a wonderful atmosphere, lots of people, very nice press coverage, the presentation was great,…

How do you look back to the Zoute Concours d’Elégance?

The quality of the cars was really great. The bad weather on Saturday may have cast a bit of a shadow over the party, but on Sunday the sun was shining at the Royal Zoute Golf Club. Both literally and figuratively speaking. What is nice about the Zoute Concours d’Elégance is that people are really at ease. There is no elite exam atmosphere at all. It is a true celebration of cars.

How would you convince your best friend to come with you to the Zoute Grand Prix?

That is easy. Nothing compares to the Zoute Grand Prix. It is a combination of many different events and exactly that is the strength of it. A classic car rally, an open-air car show, a competition, a GT Tour, an auction,… all within the marvellous setting of Knokke-Heist. Add to that the exceptional quality of the organisation. You will not find that anywhere else: the tent, the catering, the locations, the beautiful magazines on Sunday that already contain the photos of the whole weekend…

What more could you want? Top cars, beautiful women and four days of enjoying all the beauty life has to offer! Everyone wants to be there and the waiting lists to participate are the best proof of that. Wealthy people can do whatever they want. They do not necessarily have to come to the Zoute Grand Prix, but they just want to be there! That says everything.

Zoute Grand Prix according to Derek Bell

Derek Bell has been a welcome guest at Zoute Grand Prix for many years. The Brit who was teaming up with Jackie Ickx for three of his five wins in the 24h of Le Mans takes to Knokke-Heist like a duck takes to water every time.

If you had to convince a friend to go with you to the next edition of the Zoute Grand Prix, what arguments would you use?

It is a unique event and Knokke-Heist is a unique seaside resort. Everyone is so passionate about the whole event and seeing even the mayor walking around with such enthusiasm is very rare. Moreover, everything is very classy and the enormous crowd it attracts is also a great experience for the participants. For me, the Zoute Concours d’Elégance is also an absolute plus.

What is your best memory of the Zoute Grand Prix?

To me, the most memorable part is always the Welcome Party on Thursday evening at the club on the beach. The atmosphere and camaraderie between the participants with their beautiful red jackets ensures that the event starts with a bang every time! This is something you won’t see happening anywhere else. Such a welcome is quite an incredible top experience!

Where would you position Zoute Grand Prix if you have to compare with other automobile events?

There might be still bigger names in the world but this organization is still young and is still growing every year. Actually, no comparison is possible as it really stands on its own as an event. It is so unique in its genre that is the favourite item on my agenda year after year!

Het zijn maar enkele voorbeelden van groepen die graag in luxe en comfort met een exclusief vliegtuig reizen, zonder dat ze zich met praktische regelingen en allerlei details moeten bezighouden.

Uniek in de Benelux De Embraer ERJ 135 is een tweemotorig verkeersvliegtuig van de Braziliaanse vliegtuigbouwer Embraer, naast Boeing en Airbus de derde grootste fabrikant van verkeersvliegtuigen. Met zijn 37 zitplaatsen is het de verkorte versie van de Embraer ERJ 145, die 50 stoelen telt. De Embraer ERJ 140 is een ‘tussenmodel’ met een capaciteit voor 44 passagiers, dat later ontworpen werd, om de ‘kloof’ tussen de Embraer ERJ 135 en de Embraer ERJ 145 te dichten. Van de Embraer ERJ 135 bestaat ook een business jet versie, de Embraer Legacy. Die heeft een groter vliegbereik en een exclusiever interieur.

Van de Embraer ERJ 135 zijn er in totaal maar 108 gebouwd, initieel voornamelijk voor enkele grote Amerikaanse regionale maatschappijen en een aantal voor in Europa. De Embraer ERJ 135 die ACE gebruikt, is uniek in de Benelux. Hij werd volledig omgebouwd volgens de specificaties van ACE.

Exclusieve vliegervaring De Embraer ERJ 135 met registratie PH DWS, die ingezet wordt door ACE, is zo ingericht dat er 30 passagiers aan boord kunnen, in plaats van de voorziene 37. Dit zorgt voor een bijzonder ruime cabine, waar de reizigers kunnen genieten van een zee aan rust en comfort. De beenruimte is fenomenaal en iedereen beschikt over een zitje aan het raam of aan het gangpad, niet ‘tussenin’ zoals op gewone lijnvluchten. De bagagerekken bovenaan zijn vervangen door een aparte opbergruimte voor de handbagage in het begin van de cabine. Ook dit draagt bij tot een gevoel van openheid en harmonie in het vliegtuig. Het toestel is heel erg ‘VIP’ ingericht met veel aandacht voor details zoals de marmeren lavabo in de toiletblok, de speciale ‘wood look’ afwerking van de cabine, de tafeltjes, een uitgekiende LED verlichting en extra ‘soundproofing’. Door het streven naar een hoog niveau op alle vlakken – van cabinecrew tot catering – bezorgt Air Charters Europe de passagiers een exclusieve vliegervaring met de Embraer ERJ 135. ACE heeft daarnaast ook nog een tweede Embraer toestel in optie voor levering in 2019 met 42 zitplaatsen in dezelfde uitvoering als de Embraer ERJ 135, maar dan wel de verlengde versie type Embraer ERJ 145.

Companies on teambuilding, football teams on a foreign trip, a group of hunters with lots of luggage or rock bands during an international tour. These are just a few examples of groups who like to travel in luxury and comfort with an exclusive plane, without having to deal with practical arrangements and all kinds of details.

Unique in the Benelux The Embraer ERJ 135 is a twin-engine airliner from Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, after Boeing and Airbus the third largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft. With its 37 seats, it is the shortened version of the 45-seat Embraer ERJ 145. The Embraer ERJ 140 is an ‘intermediate model’ with a capacity for 44 passengers, which was designed later to close the gap between the Embraer ERJ 135 and the Embraer ERJ 145. The Embraer ERJ 135 also comes in a business jet version, the Embraer Legacy. It has a larger flight range and a more exclusive interior. Only a total of 108 Embraer ERJ 135’s was built, initially mainly for some large American regional companies and some for Europe. The Embraer ERJ 135 used by ACE is unique in the Benelux. It was completely converted according to the specifications of ACE.

Exclusive flying experience The Embraer ERJ 135 with registration PH DWS used by ACE is designed to accommodate 30 passengers, instead of the planned 37. This creates a particularly spacious cabin where travellers can enjoy a sea of peace and comfort. The legroom is phenomenal, and everyone has a seat at the window or at the aisle, not ‘in between’ like on regular scheduled flights.

The luggage racks at the top have been replaced by a separate storage space for hand luggage at the beginning of the cabin. This also contributes to a sense of openness and harmony in the plane. The aircraft is decorated very VIP with great attention to details such as the marble sink in the toilet block, the special wood look finish of the cabin, the tables, sophisticated LED lighting and extra soundproofing. By striving for a high level in all respects – from cabin crew to catering – Air Charters Europe gives passengers an exclusive flying experience with the Embraer ERJ 135. ACE also has a second Embraer aircraft in option for delivery in 2019 with 42 seats in the same version as the Embraer ERJ 135, but the extended version type Embraer ERJ 145.
