As early as 1973, a converted Brditschka HB-3 was the first to fly electric. The Slovenian manufacturer Pipistrel

Wij hebben het geluk dat ons bedrijf op diverse markten actief is: we produceren nog steeds bloem, we zijn een belangrijke speler in dierenvoeding, dus er was wel wat ruimte om de sprong te wagen en ook voluit te gaan voor kaviaar. Maar eerlijk, het duurde tot 2018 vooraleer Royal Belgian Caviar echt winst begon te maken. De jaren voordien moesten we steeds herinvesteren.

So you have a huge advantage as the only Belgian producer. Why are no other players entering the market?

Needless to say, the investment should not be underestimated. Not only financially, but also in terms of time. You have to be patient for years before you can harvest, which is a no-go for many companies. We are lucky that our company is active in several markets: we still produce flour, we are a major player in animal feed, so there was some room to take the plunge and focus completely on caviar as well. But honestly, it took until 2018 for Royal Belgian Caviar to really start generating profits. The years prior to that we always had to reinvest.

First of all, the French bourgeoisie started to spread all over the world. A nice bottle of wine was an integral part of their DNA. Hierover zijn al verregaande gesprekken lopende.

With the Zoute Generations Rally scheduled at the end of March, we could already tell that young people are also excited about classic and vintage cars. A rally exclusively dedicated to the younger generation was therefore inevitable. On Saturday 12 August, pilots and co-pilots ranging from 15 to 45 years old will compete for the very first White Cup. The rally is reserved for teams aged between 15 and 45. Participating cars must have been first registered between 1 January 1920 and 31 December 1975. A maximum of 100 cars will be allowed to participate. The winner will of course go home with the much-coveted White Cup and the accompanying direct entry ticket for the Zoute Rally by stow. But also the first 25 teams in the ranking, if they wish to enter, will automatically be approved by the selection committee for the Zoute Rally by stow on 5, 6, 7 and 8 October.

De winnaar gaat uiteraard naar huis met de felbegeerde White Cup en het bijhorende rechtstreekse deelnameticket voor de Zoute Rally by stow. In six days they will cover a whopping 666 km, during which they will brave 8,500 altimeters. "It's an MTB marathon for passionate cyclists looking for the ultimate MTB experience. They eagerly take on the grueling distances and extreme weather conditions to achieve their goal", Elisabeth Haldermans explains. "The 2023 edition, which takes place from September 30 to October 8, was completely sold out after only five days, with eighty percent of registrations even in the first three minutes. But from November 1, 2023, registrations for RocDuMaroc 2024 will open and everyone will have another chance to secure a spot" says the organistor of the extreme mountain bike challenge enthusiastically.

Gert organiseerde rond die periode avontuurlijke reizen met 2cv’s van Brussel naar Benin. Met de Afrika-kennis van Gert en mijn enthousiasme moest het mogelijk zijn om daar een moutainbike challenge uit te werken. Zo ontstond ons eerste MTB-event: de Togo Jungle Challenge. We deden dit zeven jaar lang, tot ons zoontje Maxime geboren werd en de lokroep van Marokko groter werd. De laatste jaren kregen we immers zo vaak de vraag om een nieuw event te organiseren voor al onze ex-deelnemers. De combinatie van extreem sporten, samenhorigheid en een sterke organisatie viel duidelijk in de smaak. Aangezien Gert goede contacten had in Marokko, was de stap klein om daar de volgende MTB-marathon te doen. Marokko is onwaarschijnlijk mooi.

Het Atlasgebergte, de woestijn, de uitgestrektheid: dat kennen we hier niet, echt indrukwekkend.

How did RocDuMaroc come about?

"During an exploration trip across sub-Saharan Africa undertaken by my husband, Gert Duson and myself in 2012, the idea of doing something with bikes in Africa was born. Around that time, Gert was organizing adventure trips with 2cvs from Brussels to Benin. Armed with Gert's Africa knowledge and my enthusiasm, it had to be possible to work out a mountain bike challenge there.

This is how our first MTB event was born: the Togo Jungle Challenge. We had been doing this for seven years, until our little son Maxime was born and the lure of Morocco increased. Indeed, in recent years we were so often asked to organize a new event for all our former participants.

The combination of extreme sports, unity and a strong organization was clearly appreciated. Since Gert had good contacts in Morocco, it was a small step to do the next MTB marathon there. Morocco is incredibly beautiful. The Atlas Mountains, the desert, the vastness: we don't have that here, really impressive."
