First Look: "An Artist can design a Pulley, But only an Architect can make it work" -Louis kahn When i went through the foreword by the author Bjarke Ingels, i remembered the words of Louis kahn. before reading this book, i closely follow this guy, who is a profound name these days and doing all the land mark projects, or making even an ordinary project a landmark one

Projects of Bjarke ingels is classified all around the globe the most impressive part is he classified it based on the context and climate, and even it's a glass covered commercial building or a vernacular building it had it's own micro-climate inside it, so from the measurable, it transforms to immeseaurable, and measured by the measurable terms like scale, aesthetics, integrity, etc.

but afte reading this book, my entire perspective about the architecture of Bjarke ingels changed and in addition to that it opened many doors of knowledge about respecting the climatic aspects, the vernacular context and most importantly the native style of design, to integrate the culture, lifestyle into the building, foremost is the technology, the common sense of technology is applied in almost all his projects to hold hands together with nature and ecology,which results in a magical coherence

Another very important aspect i learned is, irrespective of the location, an Architecture has to address two aspects;The environmental and the social,byfar he is the best of the recent times to make the existing environmental conditions and social conditions to exist and make buildings more hospitable to human life.

The more complex a problem turns into, simpler the solution for it, but let it be a hot climate or extreme cold, the materials he used and the form it transforms, the zoning of functions are coherent to the above mentioned two aspects of environment and social things,all in sybnthesis and coherence make a building which is like a pulley to work successfully, I attempted to express my understanding about the projects and the challenges faced by an architect and how not to compromise in any case to do something which is completely alien to the specific location,be it the courtyards of hot humid climate or glass and wood of scandinavian cold weather

Landscape urbanism Moving into the milder climate region, the landscape design at the europa city is a visionary competition project won by Bjarke Ingels, the ideas were revolutionary indeed

Boulevard concept The programs of Europa city are organized along a circular boulevard with a mix of retail, entertainment, and cultural programs. The boulevard forms a continuous loop, traveling through a series of areas, organized like different European neighbourhoods.

Loop concept The central boulevard becomes the Ramble, the Regent street, and the Champ's Elyse'es of Europa city. The circular street creates surprising spatial expeiences, as well as a clear overview: it allows you to get lost and still find your way.

Ecosystem: The proposal is to arrange the programs according to energy and resource use, in order to maximize utilization of waste products within a circular urban ecosystem Danish Maritime Museum(Copenhagen) The Program: Nothing can be built above the ground so imposing as it should not hide the view of the existing heritage maritime museum building, so the idea was to go below the earth and the design program was to design three bridges, 1. To stop the water from coming inside the museum 2.The bridge which connects to the exisitng castle 3.The one which takes people inside the museum.

The courtyards on the north eastern block and the west blocks are different, the one with green mounds is located closer to the commercial spaces while the stepped landscape is located to the residences, the landscape itself integrates with the private meeting spaces or the cabins and it creates a sense of synthesis.

Courtscraper W57 The Idea: When creating a new neighbourhood we try to re-create the variety found in the historic city of copenhagen!but how? Istead of stacking different functions of house horizontally, bjarke stacked as different layers of houses vertically like different layers, commercial spaces, row houses, traditional apartment, and roof top row houses are stacked from the bottom to the top;one activity placed on top of the next;on top of the next and so on.to connect the east and west he tied this building like a loop, converting the form like a shape of number 8.one more notable and unique feature of this 8 house is the energy point where the sunlight is maximum in the lowest point of the building and its entirely open to public till 4pm in the evening,

Sustainability Courtyards are quintessential parts of buildings in Copenhagen, so Bjarke tried to imply the courtyard in Manhattan in urban scale like central park of New York among the skyscrappers of manhattan, this is a courtscrapper with a n interesting skyline to encourage the neighbourhood to have a lake side view and climatically the sun entering the courtyard

Superkilen Urban park As a consequence and a remedy to vandalism Bjarke and his team got an idea to put a street which is nothing but a reflection of their own culture in the street, for example, if we see something which is native to our country or identical to our city we try to associate with it and the idea of vandalism goes away as it's something where we belong to, so this was the idea behind to design this entire park in a urban context

every home has it's own balcony or sitout overlooking the lake in front of it, it's a paradigm shift in terms of skyscrappers in manhattan, its like a skewed pyramid in the city premises with more fresh air and day light to all units of the community.

But, one intersting thing i found is we don't copy or place a country's identity just because we need to be nice to the people but we do it because we find it good for ourselves, a jamaican audio speaker or a morocco fountain means something

Superkilen is divided into three color-coded areas, each with a distinct atmospheric and functional condition: the large and expansive red square which serves as an extension of the adjacent sports hall offering a range of recreational and cultural activities; the black square as the heart of the Superkilen where locals can meet by the Moroccan fountain or a game of chess; and a linear green stretch as a natural meeting place for large-scale sports activities providing vantage points over the surroundings. The three areas form the backdrop to the surrealist collection of the global urban diversity of more than 100 objects from 60 cultures which reflect the true nature of the local neighborhood.

The objects were selected through an intensive curatorial process in close collaboration with the local population.

The Identity The objects ranging from exercise gear, including muscle beach LA to sewage, drains from Israel, palm trees from China and neon signs from Qatar and Russia are all accompanied by a small stainless plate inlaid in the ground describing each of the objects and their origin.

A bike path runs through the entire park improving the infrastructure locally in the area while integrating it into the broader, citywide context.

Throughout the Superkilen red maple, Japanese cherry trees, larix, palm trees from China and Lebanese cedar trees are planted to offer more shade and vegetative interest, augmenting the existing trees. The diversity in tree and plant species complements the diversity of the site furniture.

My Understandings: The Infrastructure of the industry of the past is appropriated for the social and cultural life of the present, The social or cultural fabrics to architecture is what it makes as architecture, Landscape is no more a landscape, it has to integrate with the roofs, walls, floor and the importance of 3 dimensional landscape is very important, instead of having unanticipated consequences-like when a positive social side effects in the form of nested programs, park, and playgrounds. Essentially turning the investments for the few into the enjoyment of many wherein the problem of sudden growing nations and the social inequality of emerging nations highlight and deepen the chasm between the small affluent population of key players in economic development and the larger public living in infromal settlements which can add up to the crisis, the Infrastructural investments that cater to the few-high speed rail network and highways are necessary for economic prosperity of the country while serving only a small portion of its people.

The interaction between two simple structural formsas a true embodiement of Vitruvius's principles of firmitas, Utititas, et venustas: Strength, Utility and beautyand its important to understand the law of Infrastructure, Our cities and Architecture are man-made ecosystems, they channel not only the flow of traffic, but also the flow of resources, through good cities and buildings despite their great significance and high cost, our infra structure for roads, supplies, and energy are often dealt with as purely pragmatic elements of utility with no concern for urban integration or progmmatic synthesis with the surrounding city whenever we try to analyze the conditions surrounding a project we try to weed through the different problems and potentialities to identiy the critical issue

Pragmatism and Hedonism combine in a new understanding of our social infrastructure as a proactive way to design and engineer the city of our future as the world we wnat to live in.

The first success of an architect/designer is to bring the Nature into the design and make it a part of the design programme of the functions happening inside it, The second success is to bring in the sociop cultural aspects of the neighbourhood and location inside the design program, the next thing is to question the design problem and identify the potentials to design it , convert the problems to potentials is more important for an architect to do.
