Finance & Accounting Assistant In this edition, we proudly introduce you to our Finance & Accounting Assistant, Mr. Gede Astika. Born in Kubutambahan, a district in the regency of East Buleleng in northern Bali, Indonesia on September 1990, this young man graduated from Economic Study in UNDIKSHA University in Bali. He started his journey in tourism industry by joining Asia World Indonesia on 2012 as part of Asia World Indonesia Asia’s Accounting Department in Account Payable Division. Early last year, he is promoted to Account Receivable Division by the management. As part of the Accounting Department - Account Receivable Division, he works closely with his Manager, Mr. Maruli Hutauruk, services, and records these transactions accordingly into the system. He is also securing revenue by verifying and posting receipts, and resolving any discrepancies. In his free time, he spends most of his time traveling and taking scenic nature pictures. Annual Bali Kites Festival 2018

he Bali Kites Festival is a kiting event that takes place annually, between July and August (sometimes through
October). It kicks off notably at the start of the windy season in Bali. The main festival takes place along the eastern coast of Padanggalak, just north of Sanur. This is usually held near the end of June and confirmed following favorable weather. Hundreds
of

gather from all over the island to pilot their traditional

I
f you happen to plan a trip to west Bali in July and November, then the Mekepung (bull races) held in Perancak (close to Negara)
that commemorate the end of the rice harvest are a must-see. Makepung is the name of a major grand prix in Jembrana, West Bali, which features racing buffalo races. Hundreds of pairs of buffaloes are teamed up together with their jockeys. They ride the traditional wooden ploughs that are slightly modified for the competition. The racer buffaloes, or kerbau pepadu, compete in various open race circuits in assorted heats. These series of competitions are held around the district of Melaya. They lead up to the finals, known as the Jembrana Regent’s Cup and the Governor’s Cup. Makepung is derived from the base word of kepung, meaning ‘chase’, similar to the expression ‘steeplechase’. Makepung is one of the unique traditions stemmed from the agrarian life scene of the islan. It’s a widely enjoyed event in the regency of Jembrana, west Bali. 44

This year, President of Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo officially opened this event on 23rd June 2018 at Renon Square. This event is an important event for all Bali artists to showcase their artworks and cultural identity from every region in Bali. After the grand opening at Renon Square, the daily show will be held at Bali Art Center on Jl. Nusa Indah No.1, Panjer, South Denpasar. You will find many kinds of arts performances during this whole month such as traditional Bali dances, musical show, shadow puppetry, local youth competition and still many other interesting agendas. With the spirit to give best offering to Gods and Goddess on the island, every single artist are competing to give their best work of art. Baked curry puffS In Indonesia, a curry puff is known as a pastel, although it does not necessarily contain any curry powder. Pastels are derived from the Portuguese influence in Indonesia. It refers to a pie of crust made from thin pastry, filled with meat (usually chicken) mixed with vegetables (chopped carrot and beans), rice vermicelli, and sometimes egg, then deep fried in vegetable oil. It is consumed as a snack and is commonly sold in Indonesian traditional markets. The similar North Sulawesi version replaces the thin flour pie crust with bread, and is filled with spicy cakalang (skipjack tuna). This variation of the snack is called panada.This snack is very popular during Ramadhan. The similar Riau Islands version of curry puff is called epok-epok.

Ingredients • 4 -5sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
• 3 tablespoons curry powder
• 1 tablespoon oil
• 1 cup water
• 2 garlic cloves, chopped finely
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• 1 large onion, diced finely
• salt and pepper
• 1 1⁄2teaspoons finely grated
• 1 cup vegetables, mixed diced

How to make 1. In a wok or pan, heat a little oil and fry chopped garlic until golden add onion and ginger. 2. Add in the minced meat and fry for 2 minutes breaking up the meat into small pieces. (use a separate pan to fry the meat and drain off excess fats, then add the meat to the onion mixture). 3. Add potatoes, cook for further 2-4 minutes. 4. Add the curry powder, water, sugar salt and pepper and simmer over a medium low heat stirring occasionally to prevent burning, until the potatoes are almost soft. (About 10 - 15 minutes). 5. You may need to add a little extra water if there is no sauce left. 6. Add in the mixed vegetables and coriander last and cook for a further 2 - 3 minutes until the vegetables are just starting to soften. 7. Remove from heat and cool. 8. Cut the puff pastry into 4 inch by 4 inch squares. 9. Put some filling onto one half of the square. 10. Brush edges with a little water and fold over pastry to make a rectangle or triangle shape. 11. Use a fork press the sides together to seal the edges of the puff pastry, and also the makes a nice pattern. 12. Brush the puffs with the egg wash (beaten egg). 13. Bake in a preheated oven 185°C until a nice golden color. (about 10 minutes). 14. Arrange the curry puffs on a serving platter and serve with dipping sauce.
