EDITOR’S NOTE
“We are always prepared and already yielding forth the best leaders in these precarious times.”
Pres. Richard Tamayo JCI Manila 2021 President
Good Day JCI Manila Brothers! How are you? It’s still been a challenging year yet so far. Despite after a year since the Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ) lockdown started in the Greater Metro Manila Area, not to mention the heavy adjustments we all have gone through because of the pandemic, we are but still all the more challenge with a Déjà vu as we face an upsurge of COVID-19 cases and tighter government restrictions. Despite the situation, JCI Manila, being who we are, is unfazed by these challenges. Our rich past and history has even told us that moments such as these are where we would shine the most. Furthermore, in the words of Sir Winston Churchill, we might be yet in “the darkest hour,” but this would also be the best time to be on “our finest hour.” We are always prepared and already yielding forth the best leaders in these precarious times. We are closing to the end of the first quarter of the year. On behalf of the 2021 JCI Manila Board of Directors, I am proud to announce that we have significantly done a lot and are still on full throttle notwithstanding the challenges we face in the new normal and the daunting task ahead. We are continuously working on our Lead As One objectives on Recovery, Service and Collaboration. We are looking forward to Care Groups and our updated and digital Business Directory on top of all our internal programs such as the Business Academy, Networking and Trainings to name a few. All of these activists are geared to the great value of being a JCI Manila Member. Furthermore, we continue to emphasize leadership growth opportunities through our sustainable and game-changing Community Development and Special Projects in addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This also includes our role in supporting the IATF-EID and T3 initiatives including support to inoculation efforts. Being the First in Asia, as we also draw near in culminating our Diamond Jubilee by the end of next year, we continue to strengthen our national and international presence and roles as we embark on collaborative projects and trainings. We intend to be consistent in this area as we provide great growth opportunities for our members’ leadership development in International and National Affairs.
Welcome to the third issue of the Asian Pearl for 2021! I would like to ask you this classic question regarding leadership, are leaders born or made? In JCI Manila,I believe everyone has limitless potential to become a leader in their own right. However, it does not happen overnight but by being active members we become a step closer to becoming a leader that will not only benefit our chapter but more importantly our communities and country as we endure this pandemic. This issue will feature none other than the training and leadership directorate, led by Director Jan “AP” Padiernos and his dynamic core team who have served as catalysts for both our members and chapters who aspire to not only improve themselves but also someday rise to the occasion and lead. Expect to learn more about what the Director AP and his core team have achieved so far and more importantly get to know the core team. After reading this issue we hope that you will have a better understanding and appreciation of this directorate and more importantly be active in both their upcoming training and become part of the core team as well.

A highlight as well for the year is beefing up of our Limitless Program. As we are a leadership development organization, training is definitely a core competency and activity we have. I am proud to say that through Limitless we have significantly increased our training pool including JCI Certified trainers. Furthermore, we have also launched our membership activation program called Limitless Activ8. Lastly, due to the new normal, we shall also be launching our Limitless Channel to help promote and motivate our members to join and participate. All these news are on top of all the planned collaborative programs set for the rest of the year. Brothers, let us continue to brace ourselves. With God’s grace and mercy, with hope and one another, we shall definitely get through this pandemic and be the light in this darkness. JCI Manila, onto our finest hour! Let us Lead As One!

Most memorable jcim experience: My BJC process. My initial try as a BJC failed, and sadly, i lost most of my first team. It took a lot, but i bounced back and stepped up as the Project Chairman of our re-organized group. It truly stretched my leadership skills and exposed me to work with people who have different strengths and motivations. Our work led to an amazing project that reached those who would otherwise be unreachable, and we were able to make a small but positive change that was acknowledged and won Best Baby Jaycee Project in 2020.
