KUALA LUMPUR – China said Friday, Aug. 7, it has finished its land reclamation work in the South China Sea and West Philippine Sea but would press on with plans for construction on the newly created islands. Beijing’s island building activities have brought growing condemnation

from its neighbors and the United States. A Southeast Asian diplomatic source said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his counterparts on Friday, Aug. 7 during a ministerial forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that construction on reclaimed lands would continue. “China has already stopped. You look, who is building? Take a plane

and look for yourself, Wang told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting when asked about the reclamation work. Wang said the construction projects would include lighthouses, medical and emergency rescue facilities and meteorological and marine installations, the source added. IN recent years, more residential buildings, retail centers and restaurants have sprung up in downtown Los Angeles, an area that has mostly been regarded as a place to work and has lacked a bustling after-hours culture. However, these days, drive around and new developments have injected more life into the area. LA Live, Fig and 7th with a City Target and more highend retail shops and restaurant row on 7th are some notable examples. The Arts District has drawn in upscale restaurants and a nightlife culture. Nearly block after block is undergoing some sort of construction. There’s even

China came under mounting pressure yesterday over its land reclamation, with both the US and Japan criticizing it for militarizing the disputed waters. US Secretary of State John Kerry raised the issue during a meeting with

a Whole Foods slated to open in November on the ground floor of the 8th and Grand residential project in the Financial District. Call it downtown’s renaissance, if you will. Soon it won’t be seen as just a 9-5, weekday center, but rather one that operates on a 24/7 basis like its metropolis counterparts in other areas of the country. This shift was the topic of discussion at the Asian Business Association of Los Angeles’ first real estate forum on Thursday, July 30, where professionals familiar with the developments spoke on a panel about what to expect in the coming months. THERE’S no coming home for basketball this time. Pitching to host the 2019 Fiba World Cup using the emotions and passion of a basketball-crazy nation, the Philippines lost out in a “double overtime decision to China on Friday night, Aug. 7 that had the Filipino delegation of top government officials, lawmakers, businessmen, sportsmen and a Hollywood celebrity leaving the venue in Tokyo with

a broken heart. “The host of the 2019 Fiba World Cup is ‌. China,â€? was the announcement made by Fiba president Horacio Muratore after pulling out what looked like a placard with the name of China from a huge envelope at the end of the Fiba Central Board meeting that lasted more than two hours.
