Dr. Fe Del Mundo, first woman accepted into Harvard Medical School, honored with Google Doodle The pioneer in pediatrics honored on what would’ve been her 107th birthday IT may not be the Nobel Peace Prize, but a Google Doodle made in your likeness is quite possibly one of the highest honors bestowed in the digital age. On Tuesday, Nov. 27, Google dedicated its Doodle — a temporary alteration of the search engine’s iconic logo on its homepages — to Dr. Fe Villanueva del Mundo, an internationally renowned Filipina pediatrician, on what would have been her 107th birthday. Del Mundo was the first woman admitted into Harvard Medical School, but her achievements in pediatrics made her a luminary in the medical field. During World War II, she cared for detained children and went on to establish the first pediatric facility in the Philippines. “I’m glad that I have been very much involved in the care of children, and that I have been relevant to them. They are the most outstanding feature in my life,” Del Mundo said in 2007. Though she’s not exactly a household name,
However, Sandiganbayan Fifth Division said that it is premature because there is still a pending motion to be resolved. “The Notice of Appeal filed by Marcos is premature as the Court has not yet resolved her Motion for Leave to avail of post-conviction remedies. Therefore, the Court cannot take action on the
THE Philippines’ improving relations with China will not replace its long-standing alliance with Washington, according to U.S. Ambassador Sung Kim. Kim said he is not surprised that the Philippines, Washington’s oldest ally in Asia, wanted to expand its ties with China, which has strong presence in the Indo-Pacific region and presents great economic opportunities. “I think you can do both. You can maintain the special, deep relationship you have with the United States and at the same time see if there are opportunities to expand your trade, economic ties with China,” Kim said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel on Friday, November 23. “But it’s important to remember that we’re the only alliance you have and I don’t think your improving relations with other countries, whether it’s China or some other countries, would replace the alliance you have with the United States,” Kim added. The U.S., he said, has a long history of giving useful and valuable assistance to the

FORMER Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio revealed on Monday, November 26, that the joint exploration and exploitation of resources in the West Philippine Sea with China is a direct violation of our constitution. “Joint exploration and exploitation is prohibited in our Constitution, which requires that the Philippines shall have ‘full control and supervision’ in the exploration and exploitation of natural resources,” Carpio explained as reported by The Philippine Star. “Joint exploration and exploitation” as defined by law “will diminish our ‘full control’ and
thus violate the Constitution,” he added. The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on oil and gas exploration during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping had elicited concerns and criticisms noting that the country’s sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea would be compromised. However, Carpio clarified that a portion of the MOU indicated a possibility of China recognizing service contracting by the Philippines. Ultimately suggesting that they would consider the Philippines’ sovereign rights over areas covered by service contracts. “I don’t have any objection with
