UNITED States-based lawyer McDonald Worley recently arrived in Biliran, Eastern Visayas to interview nine of the alleged victims of American priest Kenneth Bernard Pius Hendricks who is now detained in Quezon city jail over charges of sexual abuse. The Houston-based lawyer clarified that he was not involved with the criminal side of the case filed against the 77-year-old priest. Worley emphasized that he is after the civil aspect which focuses on the compensation received by the alleged victims. “I have nothing to do with the criminal aspect of the case. I just handle the civil side. So it’s basi-

cally money that has to be paid to the victims, Worley said as reported by The Philippine Daily Inquirer. “A fund to compensate sexual abuse victims by Hendricks is being set up by the U.S. Catholic Church. I am here to gather information and the jury will have to decide on the amount, Worley earlier added as reported by the Philippine News Agency. Worley explained that the alleged victims were seven and 12 years old when the abused happened. He also narrated the confessions of the young victims who are now in their early 20s. “He would then lure them to his apartment where he would gradually progress from spending time with the boys to fondling them,

Aquino rebukes PH new loans from China FORMER President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday, March 26, gave out a warning to the government about the China-offered loans, saying the Philippines should have already learned from the past. This is after Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio said Beijing could seize oil and gasrich Philippine assets in the South China Sea if the country pulls out on payment for a new $62 million loan. The government signed the loan agreement with China on April 10, 2018. “Hindi na tayo natuto sa Northrail. Hindi ba pwedeng maawa tayo sa sarili natin (We haven’t learned our lesson with Northrail [project]. Can’t we have pity on ourselves)?, Aquino said during an ambush interview at an Otso Diretso forum in Cebu City. The Northrail project was launched under former president Gloria Macapagal-Ar-

Tuesday, March 26. Duterte went on to enumerate his administration’s priorities, including his controversial war on illegal drugs, a campaign that has earned him complaints before the International Criminal Court (ICC). “It’s very hard to really develop if there is no law and order. If there is no law and order and everything is... everybody is in a quandary... And we have — I think being swallowed by the biggest threat of them all and that is the drug problem which is worldwide, the president said. Duterte said human rights advocates who ac-

It’s really brave for them to say ‘hey, this happened to me’ and I will say something and do something about it so this will not happen again to somebody else, Worley added. He said the Church could be held liable for the actions of Hendricks since they were aware of his misconduct but failed to put a stop to it. “That’s part of the investigation.
