LAS VEGAS — There is no sign that Manny Pacquiao’s fight on Saturday, January 19 will be his last. In a sideline interview with reporters on Wednesday, January 16, the 40-year-old Filipino boxer teased that he won’t be shelving his sports career any time soon and could still go on for two to three more years.
However, he said it would not interfere with his duties as a senator in the Philippines. “This is the real evidence of being passionate [about] the sport... I don’t need to continue boxing — I am a senator of the Republic of the Philippines, I have another job...I’m still focused on that job, but like I said, boxing is my passion and public service is my mission so I’m still here to keep on fighting,” Pacquiao said

The poll, taken from Dec. 14 to 21 last year, showed 84 percent of Filipinos saying the Philippines should extend “a great deal/fair amount of trust” to the U.S. This was higher than the 79 percent recorded in March 2017. The U.S. was followed by Japan and Australia with trust ratings of 75 percent and 72 percent, respectively. Great Britain/United Kingdom obtained 57 percent. Reacting to the survey result, Malacañang expressed optimism Filipinos’ attitude toward China would change if the latter shows sincerity in its dealing with the Philippines. “It’s understandable for Filipinos to feel that way... Because we’ve been used to the (United) States being our ally, so we are more used to engaging with America. Perhaps as we go

LAS VEGAS — Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen of Nevada’s 10th District (AD-10) and Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson spoke before the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) community on Saturday, January 12. As they met with the community leaders to laud the political power of the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) constituency, Nguyen proudly discussed her vision for Nevada as she expressed her joy in being a part of a legislature with a female majority. “We can be trailblazers, not only here, but we can set an example for the entire country,” Nguyen said as she met with community leaders at the Asian Community Development Council. The assemblymember assumed her role last month after county commissioners on appointed her to replace former Assemblyman Chris Brooks. She added that she sees her positions as a way to “hold the door open for many more Asian candidates in the future. “I’m hopeful that I will have a good judgment of character to be able to help reach out to those people, get the information that I need from those people, and use that when I am sitting at the table,” Nguyen said, continuing to “have the courage to speak out in behalf of those who are disenfranchised of their rights and
