Winelist No. 55

WINELIST No. 55 Dear Mailing List Member, Can it really be 12 months since we were frantically trying to get Council approval to build a deck next to Cellar Door for the summer? As it transpired, we were up and running for the back half of the season. Those of you who have paid us a visit will know what a beautiful spot it is, and Jo is preparing for a busy few months ahead. Fizz, cheese and fine pinot noir overlooking a beautiful vista of gently ripening grapes under blue skies and temperatures around 6 degrees cooler than Adelaide – who can resist? While the release of the 2016 pinots has kept us occupied in recent times, there are a couple of things happening at the winery that might be of interest. The Adelaide Hills Pinot Experience is a tour designed to showcase some of the best pinot coming out of the Adelaide Hills. We’ve partnered with the Stanley Bridge Tavern in Verdun, to give you and your friends a delicious food and wine pinot-centric experience. Kick off proceedings at Ashton Hills where Jo will take you through a pinot noir tasting complemented by a tasting plate of regional Adelaide Hills cheese, charcuterie and olives. Then take the short drive to Stanley Bridge Tavern and choose from an exclusive two course menu matched with a back-vintage Ashton Hills Estate pinot and selections from our friends at BK Wines and Shaw and Smith. Self-drive is just $85pp or a guided tour for 6 is $165 per head. It’s great value and an ideal Christmas gift. All you need to know can be found right here: https://www.ashtonhills.com.au/visit/ The Martini Club is Ashton Hills Vineyard’s very own wine club, which guarantees members an automatic

delivery of a dozen of Ashton Hills’ wines each year, as well as other benefits like 10% discount across the range all year round, an invite to a pre-release tasting, vineyard tour and more. The club takes its name from the Martini pinot noir clone, much loved by Stephen George and rarely sighted around these parts. It stemmed from feedback from visitors – particularly interstaters – who said that our wines were not always easy to find and often a vintage was sold out before they had the chance to grab a bottle. The Martini Club takes out the guesswork and offers a raft of additional benefits for pinot noir lovers. You can find all the details at https://www.ashtonhills.com.au/wine-club/ If you’re visiting the Adelaide Hills over the holidays, please be sure to drop by and say hi to Jo at our Cellar Door. Our trading hours are listed over the page and we will be staying open until 7pm every Friday during January for Twilight Tastings and drinks on the deck. And if you do decide to take advantage of any of the special offers contained within the newsletter, please order by December 8. That way we can guarantee that our parcel lands on your doorstep before Santa hits the chimney. A safe and happy festive season to you all.
