Testimonial

The past few years that Mum was at home, things had become increasingly stressful. We made sure to speak to her every day and ensure her well-being, but any disruption to her routine would greatly upset her. During this time, Mum shared with us, "I never thought I'd be this lonely." We offered to visit more frequently, but she insisted, "No, I just wanted you to know."

Mum moved into Codnor Park last summer after a major fall at home resulted in her hospitalisation. During Mum's hospital stay, we visited Codnor Park for a look around. It was our top choice as Mum is from Codnor, and we wanted her to stay local so we could visit regularly. At the time, the home had only one room available. We requested an assessment, which was promptly completed. The home's management team saw no reason why Mum would not be a good fit for the placement.

Although Mum had always been clear about not wanting to go into a care home, as a family, we knew she didn't want to be alone either. Despite her initial resistance, we felt getting her into a care facility was the best option. The transition happened quickly but we were over the moon that she was at Codnor Park because we couldn't imagine Mum anywhere else.

Mum has adapted far better than we expected. It's a tremendous relief for our family knowing she is surrounded by people who care for her. Mum thrives on routine, and any disruption can upset her. While she may sometimes seem confused about her location, we believe she has carried her home routine into her new environment. She's now able to walk well, a significant improvement from struggling after her multiple falls. We attribute this progress to receiving three nutritious meals a day at the home, a stark contrast to her eating habits at home.

We visit Mum most days, even if just for a short time, to help her maintain her routine, which has always been important to her. Building relationships with the other residents has been lovely, we love seeing everyone, and we always make sure to say goodbye to everyone before leaving.

Any concerns we have we are able to raise at the residents and relatives meetings, we go every time they are held and we would strongly encourage more people to come too! They are a great thing to come along to because it gives families the opportunity to have a say.

“My father was placed in another home on respite care, a care home which we were very unhappy with. Both the manager and staff were extremely helpful in assisting us to get Dad moved to Codnor Park. The help they provided was caring, clear and crucial to us as a family. While we could tell the facilities at Codnor Park far exceeded our experience with the respite care home, it was following Dad's move we fully understood and appreciated the exceptional level of care provided. Dad was treated as an individual with care, dignity and understanding. The whole family were totally happy and looking forward to visiting Dad in surroundings which felt like home. Sadly Dad unexpectedly passed away after only a short stay. We can't thank the manager and all the staff enough and wish we had been given longer to get to know them better.”
