About Us Ashmere is a family run business providing the very best care across Derbyshire. Our ethos is that we are here for everyone, from our residents right through to the families, too.

When the time comes to find a care provider we know that there are many questions that need to be answered and our personal approach ensures you get the opportunity to speak with our care team directly and address all the questions.

Ashmere currently has seven fantastic care homes to choose from, specialising in the following areas; residential care, nursing, dementia and daycare.

Heanor Park, our newest home, has been purpose built with all the added extras expected with a modern home. Spacious rooms, walk in showers and a focus on individually led care. Our bedrooms are generously sized, tastefully presented to a high standard and all have en-suite walk in showers.

Independent Living Suites at Heanor Park Our exclusive independent-living facility at Heanor Park offers luxury apartment accommodation with allinclusive living and gorgeous communal areas. These beautiful apartments are suitable for one or two people and offer modern, open-plan living with a wet room, built-in-wardrobe and kitchenette. You have access to all the incredible facilities Heanor Park Care Home has to offer, as well as the option to add a care package to suit your needs.

Based in friendly West Hallam village, this 31 bed home has single and en-suite rooms, as well as a spacious double room with wet room. This home offers an incredible feel of community and recognises the importance of maintaining relationship with family and friend. We also have a gorgeous sensory garden with outdoor seating for all residents to enjoy.

Our first purpose-built residential home, Codnor Park, was built in 1997 and has 40 fully furnished en-suite rooms which residents are encouraged to personalise with their own belongings. There are lots of communal areas where residents can make new friends or join in with the many daily activities.

King William in Ripley is a converted pub with a homely feel and lots of character and has recently undergone refurbishments. We aim to provide a peaceful, friendly atmosphere at King William and residents are encouraged to remain as independent as possible.

Smalley Hall began its life as a coach house which stands alongside the original hall. It is a Grade II listed building due to its relationship with the Hall. With a maximum of 26 residents, you can be sure that the attention to detail at Smalley Hall is second to none.

Our well trained staff feel more like family as they are such a close knit team.

Valley Lodge is a recently refurbished 61 bed home offering nursing, specialist dementia and residential care across two households. Situated a stone’s throw away from Matlock town, with fantastic views of the Peak District, Valley Lodge is next to the tracks of the vintage steam train that passes by the home.

Sample Menu Our menus are on a regukar rotation and are all freshly prepared by our kitchen staff who work hard to produce only the best home cooks meals.

We also offer alternatives including vegetarian, diabetic, soft diet and other specialist diet options.

Where, when and how residents eat is very flexible and we cater to our residents wishes wherever possible.

We also hold themed food nights for all occasions throughout the year from Chinese New Year to Bonfire Night, so our residents always have the opportunity to try something new.

Activities schedule All our homes offer a fantastic and varied activities schedule including: games, crafts, gardening, exercise, national celebrations and regular trips out, which is all included in the weekly cost.

Our person-centred approach to care also means that we will offer each resident the opportunity to take part in activities they love, as well as encouraging new hobbies and interests.

Of course, each activity and event is completely flexible so everybody can join in as much or as little as they like.

As well as daily activities in the home, we also offer amazing days out including: Alton Towers, the seaside, safari parks, local pubs, restaurants & cafés and even football matches.

What care is right for me?

Residential Residential care suits a range of people from those requiring minimal support with daily tasks, up to full assistance with activities and daily living. This type of care offers 24 hour support from care professionals and is perfect for individuals who are finding it difficult to live independently at home.

Residential care includes personal care such as help getting dressed, assistance with mobility as well as making sure our residents can enjoy a balanced and nutritious diet.

Residential Dementia Residential dementia care offers the same fantastic support as residential care, with added support for people living with dementia.

All our homes offer dementia care and three of our homes offer dementia accommodation in a smaller household to reflect the need for a quieter, enabling, environment that has a higher ratio of staff to residents.

Independent Living The perfect balance between independence and care: Our independent-living facility at Heanor Park Care Home offers luxury accommodation with all-inclusive living for people who may need a little bit of support, but do not yet require full-time care. You can access all the fantastic facilities at Heanor Park, but only pay for the care you need, when you need it.

The beauty of this type of living is that it is fully customisable to your exact requirements.

What care is right for me?

Nursing A home with nursing care is for individuals requiring regular medical care from a registered nurse during their stay. A nurse is in situ to devise and monitor care plans, provide and administer treatment (e.g injections) and carry out timely medical interventions. If you a physical or mental condition or frailty, qualified nursing staff will be on hand to identify, interpret and deliver medical attention. We have two homes that are offer nursing care The Firs in Codnor and Valley Lodge in Matlock. We also accept NHS continuing healthcare funding which is priced on an individual basis.

We offer nursing care over a wide range of needs including older people, mental health, learning disabilities and physical disabilities.

We understand that the decision to move into a care home is not an easy one, so we are here for you and your family every step of the way. If you move into one of our homes, it becomes YOUR home too and we will support you to live the life you choose, help you continue with your hobbies and interests, as well as the opportunity to try something new!

Can couples apply?

Yes, of course. We see quite a few couples living in an Ashmere home.

What is respite care?

Respite care is basically short-term care.

All of our homes offer respite care where you can book a room for a matter days, weeks or on a rolling basis to suit you. This kind of care is useful for holidays, if you are discharged from hospital and need a bit of extra support before you return home, or if you simply need a break. Respite care could also be used to try a home before deciding whether it would suit you for long-term care.

Frequently asked questions What are the next steps?

Will my room be furnished and decorated?

When you have decided you would like to go ahead with a care home placement at Ashmere, the manager will arrange a pre-admission assessment. This will help us get to know you and your needs and to find out all your likes, dislikes, hobbies and favourite things to do.

All our rooms are decorated, carpeted and furnished* but to ensure that you feel at home, we encourage you to personalise your room with your belongings. If you would like to bring your own furniture, we will be happy to accommodate this.

Once yourself and the manager are happy that we are able to care for you, we will welcome you into your new home where you will be shown around the home and introduced to your fellow residents. We will also spend some time with you to explain how the home works and how to ask for help if you need it.

Do I have to pay for my care?

If you are unsure whether you are able to pay for care yourself, we recommend you contact your local Social Services department and ask them to carry out a financial assessment to see if you are eligible for help with funding. If you have savings or assets above the current threshold, you will be expected to pay for your care. If you are below the threshold, the local council can help pay towards the cost of care provided you under-go a care assessment to confirm your need for full-time nursing or residential care. *The independent living suites at Heanor Park have the option to be furnished for an additional charge.
