Music notes by: Ashley Sosis The music selections chosen for this evening’s service have a theme: “A King’s College Christmas”. Each of the anthems during the prelude and service appeared in the King’s College “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” over the past five years. The service was first broadcast in 1928 and is a must-see if you are a lover of Anglican choral music. This year marks the first Lessons and Carols service at King’s College after the passing of Sir David Willcocks (December 30th, 1919 - September 17th, 2015), who had a long and influential career as a choral teacher, conductor and composer there. He wrote many of the arrangements we will sing tonight.

I thoroughly enjoyed preparing this printed program and providing all of the Latin translations for our two back-to-back macaronic (shifting between two languages) choral texts. I must point out something that I found particularly beautiful in “A Babe is Born” by William Matthias. The Latin phrase, “A solis ortus cardine” in many sources is translated as, “from the rising of the sun”, or “from the morning-time”. This is correct, but not exact.

Cardine means “piviot”, so the exact translation is “from the (pivot) point where the sun rises”. In the context of the rest of the verse, the wise men see the manger, the “pivot point” from where salvation dawns upon mankind. Merry Christmas!

A note of welcome from our Pastor Merry Christmas! I want to welcome you to Trinity and thank you for sharing this most festive of days with us. In the Christmas story we get a glimpse into the heart of who God is. We see that the Son of God was not willing to hold on to the comforts of heaven if it meant He would lose us. I pray that you know the love of the babe born in Bethlehem not only this Christmas Season, but all year long. We have many wonderful opportunities to get to know Jesus better at Trinity! I hope you will consider joining us in this journey to know the one who has so loved us.

SPECIAL NEWS EVENTS Baptism at the 10am Service on December 27th: It is with great joy that we will baptize a new member of the Body of Christ, Mary Chase Gravely, on the morning of December 27th at the 10am service. Please mark your calendar for this special event!

Office Closing Dates for Christmas Recess: Please note that the staff of Trinity will be enjoying a time of Sabbath rest from Thursday, December 24th through Sunday, January 3rd. Our offices will re-open on the morning of Monday, January 4th. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

End of the Year Financial Contributions: Please note that all contributions for 2015 must be in the plate on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or Sunday, December 27th. After those dates, contributions mailed in must be postmarked no later than December 31st, 2015 to get credit on your 2015 taxes. This deadline is necessary so we can complete the year of 2015 and close it out. If you have any questions regarding your pledge or contributions, please contact Denise Cornwell in the church office on Monday or Tuesday at (843) 448-8426.

Merry Christmas!

Annual Parish Dinner & Meeting: Each year, the parish gathers together to celebrate another twelve months of blessings and joys in the service of our Lord in this place. The celebration will be Monday, January 25th, 2016. The evening begins at 6pm, where we will gather around tables between 6-6:45pm to share a covered-dish meal. If your last name begins with A-G bring bread and/or side dish; H-M bring a meat; and T-Z bring dessert. Beverages will be provided. During the meeting, we will cover 1) The election for Vestry members will be held for three seats (for a three-year term). 2) The election of delegates to the Diocesan Convention will be held for two members.

Voting will begin at 7:00pm in the Nave and you MUST check-in at the table because in order to vote, you much be an active member of Trinity Church.

There are two categories of active membership in Trinity Church: baptized members and confirmed members. A baptized member of Trinity Church is any person who has been baptized with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; who has expressed a desire to be a member of Trinity Church; and who has been enrolled as a baptized member of Trinity Church. A confirmed member of Trinity Church is a baptized member who has been confirmed by a bishop in apostolic succession, has expressed a desire to be a member of Trinity Church, and who has been enrolled as a confirmed member of Trinity Church. Active membership requires that the person be regular in attendance in worship, participate and partake of the Holy Eucharist at least three times a year, and be regular in the giving of his/her time, talents, and financial resources to Trinity Church. Tracy has the list of members eligible to vote.

Spring Discipleship Dates – Be on the Lookout! Please note that most of our discipleship opportunities are currently in recess due to the Holiday season. We are excited to be announcing our new Spring Discipleship dates soon, so please be on the lookout for flyers and brochures in the coming weeks.

HER Women’s Retreat: Tickets are being sold now! Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 13th from 10am-4pm! The retreat will take place at Christ Church in Murrells Inlet.

The cost is $25.00 and includes lunch and a ‘love offering’ for Holly Cervini (our worship leader). We need volunteers to help with this event – please look for a sign-up sheet as the date gets closer. Scholarships are available upon request! “Connections” Phone Directory is Now Out! Trinity “Connections” Phone Directory is now available. Just in time for those Christmas cards! You may pick up your copy in the Bookstall this morning. Please, one copy per household. Copies are also available in the church office during weekly hours.

Organ Tours: Attention visitors: if you would like a closer look at the 1876 Johnson/Farmer Choir pipe organ in the choir loft or the 2013 Hood Memorial Portative Organ by the front of the church, please see Ashley Sosis after the 11am service for a tour or even a chance to play them!

2016 Chancel and Chapel Flower Open Dates: There are many open dates for both the Chancel and the Chapel flowers in 2016. If you are interested, please contact Caroline McKee at 449-3629. Please take a moment to look at the flower chart bulletin board to see what dates are currently available. PLEASE DO NOT add to or delete anything from the chart. All changes should be called in to Caroline McKee. Thank you for supporting this ministry.

Pastoral Care at Trinity: It is of greatest importance that you contact the church if you are ill or in the hospital. "In case of illness, the Minister of the Congregation is to be notified." Book of Common Prayer (BCP) p. 453. Current privacy laws do not allow the hospital to contact the clergy or to release names of patients. The only way that the church will know of your hospitalization is if you, a friend, or family member call the Parish Office to alert us. Also please notify us if a family member or a friend is in need of prayer or a pastoral call. Thank you for helping us help you.
