When designing a cantina in Italy I wanted to focus on creating a space that is cozy and respects the surrounding traditional architecture, yet is unique and inviting. The cantinahasvestoriest include private and public tasting rooms, retail space, and a wine cellar to hold Vino Nobile, a wine made in Montepulciano. The city overlooks the picturesque Italian countryside, however most buildings are tightly packed together and impede the view. My cantina was designed with a channel through the middle to allow passersby a glance at the scenery. This view would pull patrons in and be engaging to the public, whether they were planning on coming to the cantina or not.

FLOOR 5: Private tasting rooms available by reservationbygroupsofvisitors.Thistoorallows access to a balcony that spans the width of the lot where any patron can sip their wine and enjoy the view.

WALL SECTION

Inspired by traditional Italian architecture, La Cantina di Via Ricci utilizes a masonry structural system with brick interior walls, and a warm stucco exterior. The roof is covered in terracotta shingles and window trims are painted green and white which contrasts beautifully with the warm brown and red tones around them.

FINAL MODEL

Final model crafted from laser-cut chipboard and wood. The colored members were all hand painted, including the roof on which individual shingles were hand drawn.

The site in which La Cantina Di Via Ricci is nestled was made from gray chipboard.

Surrounding buildings are laser cut acrylic which was then sanded by hand to appear frosted.

This project is a mixed-use apartment building with studio,1BR,and2BRunits.Itincludesninetoors ofliving,atoorofeducationalprogramminganda toorofofcespace.Thedesigncaterstofamiliesand working parents. The building has three green spaces as well as many trellises so each room has a view of greenery. The residential areas were designed at varying heights with the street facing parts being lower to allow residents in the North wing to still receive sunlight. The center courtyard visible in the nighttime rendering above is accessible by both residents and childrenutilizingtheeducationaltoor.Residentsalso have access to a community vegetable garden on the fthtoor,aswellasalargeroofpatioabovethe6th toor.Thesegreenspacesreceiveabundantsunlight COURTYARD RENDER (top left), FINAL MODEL (bottom left), BIRDSEYE RENDER (right) on the south and west ends of the lot.

SETTING SAIL

The Columbian Exchange on a Global and Local Scale The Columbian Exchange Museum of Genova was designed by myself and Hayden Bryson during a semester spent in the port city of Genova, Italy.

Genova, known as the birth place of Christopher Columbus, lent itself as theperfectlocationforamuseumwhichhighlightstheintuenceofthe Columbian Exchange.

The form of the museum is designed to emulate three sails which represent Columbus’s ships sailing to the New World. It is made of glass and polycarbonate which give the museum an ethereal look during the day and allow it to glow like a lantern at night. Through the translucent shell, one can see theinnerglulamstructureandconcretetoorslabs.

In front of our structure sits a piazza which features an interactive water fountain where children can play on the hot summer days. Visible in the site plan, this fountain area is at grade level and is made of different shades of limestone, cut in wave-like patterns to look like the tide washing over the shore.

The rear of our site, visible from the Porta Soprana, includes outdoor seating thatconnectstothersttoorcafeaswellasseveralgrassyareasand trees where patrons or the public can spend the afternoon lounging and socializing.

Visible in the transverse section drawing (right), the poly-carbonate sheathing is attached to our frame through metal connectors. The Glulam frame is curved to mimic the shape of a sail. Between eachlsailmisatatroofedpassageway that serves to connect each of the three segments. These pathways double as a method of preventing water collection in the valleys between each section. We chose to leave the ceiling beams visible oneachtoortoshowcasethewarmwood which contrasts beautifully against the frostedwallsandconcreteslabtoors.

The Detroit Water Education Center | Detroit, MI

Spring 2019 | Team: Erin Doering, Lydia Gandy, Hayden Bryson | Adobe Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino Conservation, creation, and collaboration are the benchmark ideals for The Detroit Water Education Center. This multi-purpose educational and social space embraces the process of collaboration between researchers, students, artists, and other patrons. This is achieved by merging diverse programs into large, interdisciplinary spaces situated on the site of the former Brodhead Naval Armory.

Located just off the Detroit City Walk, this project transforms reclaimed materials and facade elements into a striking new structure.

MODEL DIRECTORY: LOUVER MODEL: A detailed representation of our louver system. The louvers are cut from aluminum sheets and the anchor system was modeled in SketchUp and 3D printed.

POD MASSING MODEL: Made from chipboard, this modelwasusedtohelpdeterminethenalmassingfor our “pods” POD PROGRAMMING MODEL: This model, crafted in acrylic, shows the programing of our pods. The colors represent research, educational, and multi-purpose uses SITE MODEL: Site and building are modeled in layers of chipboard and sanded acrylic for trees and windows.

232 Kent St. Renovation | Brookline, MA Professional Work | Timothy Burke Architecture | Revit

This Brookline single-family home, built in 1897, has been owned by only four families and has been well preserved over its lifetime. The current renovation project, which I am the primary designer working under Tim Burke on, focuses primarily on a kitchen and wet bar renovation. Other work includes a renovated master bed and bath on the second level, a proposed finished basement, and a full in-law suite on the attic level.

The beautiful historic exterior will be largely preserved with the exception of the removal of exterior fire escape stairs which were installed when the top level was used as a nurses dormitory during WWII.

This Colonial Revival estate built in 1905 has long been one of the most beautiful and well preserved homes in Melrose. For the last 50 years it had remained untouched by the owners. Our client, who bought the house in 2020, tasked us with updating the interior and backyard with modern luxuries, while keeping the historic street-facing facades intact. This large project centers around a massive kitchen overhaul which turned the old servants kitchen into a modern hosting space. Other changes will include a completely re-landscaped backyard which was previously unutilized, a gutted basement with new home-gym, music room, and billiards room, as well as a full master-suite renovation.
