How do our leisure activities impact our health in older adulthood?

Bone et al (2024) found that in older adults aged 50 and above, leisure time spent physically active was linked to:

Better daily functioning

Better physical fitness

Better subjective perception of health ... aka people felt better about their health!

They also found that leisure time spent in any domain led to positive feelings of aging

Positive associations between physical activity and cognition in healthy older adults have been identified.

This effect was found to be more pronounced in women than in men (Johnsen et al., 2022).
