“Happy Pride!” -Love Trix

KP Pride

We had a love filled and healing launch to our First Pride Clinic on 6.5.2024. We will continue this once monthly pilot while we gather feedback from patients and staff about experiences, work flows, areas to grow/change etc with plans to expand to our local community. KPSRO truly is a hub of excellence in LGBTQ+ care. We are the first Pride clinic to launch in the region, possibly the state. PRIDE clinic offers primary care services to adults 18 and over– physical exams, preventative health screenings, immunizations, and care navigation consults– in a LGBTQ+ supportive and inclusive patient-centered environment with informed and experienced clinicians We had 100% of scheduled patients show for their visits. Let us share this quote from a patient who was ready to ‘give up’ on medical services given prior experiences:

“This is what care should always look and feel like”. We have our next 2 dates booked and then hope to expand to our larger medical center soon.

Check out the other fantastic events offered for Pride Month!

DELIVER PERMANENTE EXCELLENCE

Caring Moment: Dr. Clifford Sweet

An unusual CT cystogram order arrived in Radiology for a patient with a history of severe allergic reactions to iodinated contrast Despite the standard procedure involving the drip of contrast media via a Foley catheter, there remained a risk of triggering an allergic response. The patient, accompanied by their spouse, hesitated to enter the CT scan room, expressing fear stemming from a near-fatal encounter with iodine in the past Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the CT nurse, Laura, sought guidance from Dr. Clifford Sweet. Anticipating the need to cancel the exam due to the patient's history of anaphylaxis, they braced for disappointment However, Dr Sweet urged them to pause and allow him time to review the patient's chart and conduct research. Dr. Sweet dove into the matter with diligence, consulting with colleagues and exploring alternatives.

Ultimately, Dr. Sweet devised a plan to use gadolinium as a safer contrast agent for the procedure. With his expertise leading the way, the exam proceeded smoothly, ensuring the patient's safety and peace of mind Both the patient and their spouse expressed profound relief and gratitude for the exceptional care they received. Dr. Sweet's dedication to the patient's well-being did not go unnoticed. His willingness to go above and beyond, coupled with his compassionate decision not to cancel the exam, exemplified the finest qualities of a healthcare provider

Dr. Sweet's dedication to the patient's well-being did not go unnoticed. His willingness to go above and beyond, coupled with his compassionate decision not to cancel the exam, exemplified the finest qualities of a healthcare provider. Radiologists usually are involved in almost every aspect of care and usually in the background.”

- Chief of Radiology, Kavita Mamtora

“In my over twenty years in CT, I have never seen gadolinium used as contrast in CT. I guess you’re never too old to learn new things…..Dr. Sweet spent his valuable time to help the patient. He went above and beyond to keep patient safe and showed a great compassion by not canceling the exam.”

- Tedros Tecle, Radiologic Technologist

As a team, Radiology extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sweet for his invaluable contribution. His actions inspired them to strive for excellence in patient care, and though cloning may be out of reach, his legacy of compassion would continue to resonate within their department.

Dr Sweet is also thankful for his team, stating, “I am very proud to work in a department where everyone works their hardest to do their best for the patients---the techs, assistants, transporters, front desk, everyone.”
