Since this is a college project this won’t be needed but if it was the real thing I would have to get a community radio licence from Ofcom and a commercial radio licence from PRS (The Performing Right Society) for music which represents the copyright of the lyrics and composition of the music and collects royalties for the songwriters, composers and music publishers. I would also need a licence from PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) which represents the rights of the actual sound recording and collect the royalties for the performers and record companies. I would need a PPS (Public Perfomance Sales) licence from PRS for music if I am playing music on my premises e.g. my own broadcast in a studio. The fee’s start from 18p.
