FLOWS OBSERVATORY

Flows Observatory Exposing the Energetic Flows of Site During Climate Change Flows of Climate Change Institute The Flows Observatory is located in the Georgia Institute of Technology Campus.

The Flows of Climate Change Institute uses specific interactive elements along with an art instillation to educate users on the conservation, collection, and cyclical stages of water.

The Cistern, located in the left, central part of the cite, is used as a learning element as it is an observatory where people can physically see the drought or surplus of water for the site at any given time.

The four paths leading to the cistern are elevated above four man-made waterways where water is collected back to the cistern.

The Modular green wall / water tank display is an educational element and main feature inside the Flows of Climate Change Institute. Here, stormwater is collected from the slit in the sloped roof, and it is used to nourish the plants on the green wall. Users can visually see as the tank begins to become depleted, encouraging users to find ways to conserve water within the building.

The site is mapped out with two different grid systems: one being a rippled circular system, reflecting the building geometry adjacent to it, and the second system being that of a square grid system.

NATURE-STRUCTURE/CULTURE-FUNCTION connections & disconnections through cyclical & non-cyclical flows Within the site and its surroundings, the built environment consists of roadways, sidewalks, built paths, paved parking lots of varying surface materials, and campus buildings. The culture-functional properties are largely focused on the vehicular transportation of humans with a minor focus on pedestrian circulation and programmatic engagement (mostly indoors). Studying which circulation paths are taken at particular times of the day in relation to their intensive properties can inform our cross-cutting issue of ‘connections and disconnections caused by cyclical and non-cyclical flows.’

Massing Diagram and Section

This proposal involves an investigation of materiality, usage, space, community, construction process and impact on carbon. This building speculates on how an unconventional, multi-generational neighborhood can be activated in the current decomposition and recomposition of the site. The positive impacts of this recomposition will inspire future cycles of redevelopment. The old building materials are recycled into modular components making up the facade. The new building is an exposition of what stood before. This exposition of the old H.L. Green works wonderfully with the art gallery, as the art gallery showcases H.L. Green as well as other art pieces and installations. A big urban move occurs in which a large mass is taken away from the Broad street side. In its place, a large community plaza is implemented to draw a crowd from the artsy Broad Street.

This bathroom embraces nature and all of its elements. It is located in Rittenhouse square, Philadelphia.

Despite the many of people strolling through the park daily, there are no bathrooms currently existing here.

I decided to design a bathroom with raw elements. I used a stone mosaic as inner walls to embrace the closeness with nature, and I enclosed this raw material with glass. The glass is meant to make the stone look showcased. The roof is made of mostly glass, but it is sheltered by the sun with the tree canopies above it.

Rendering

The multimedia art center is defined by its undulating roof system in contrast with its colorful, photovoltaic, window panels acting as a billboard for the building. The form of the tower is an oval that protrudes out in the middle on the north side of the tower. An atrium space curves along this belly formed by the tower, providing air filtration. Ten floors are dedicated to their own, individual studio spaces surrounded by colorful photovoltaic panels which makes for a vibrant city, panoramic view.

FARM AND NATURE CENTER

GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

This is a group community project focused on the transformation of Bransby Outdoor YMCA at Rock Chapel into a youth farm and nature center.

Commissioner Lorraine CochranJohnson of Super District 7 is invested in improving the quality of life and through DeKalb County, Georgia.

The proposed program calls for a strategic effort to engage and expand opportunities for the youth, as well as create a sustainable agricultural landscape, to produce healthy foods, gardening actives, a functional community store, youth entrepreneurial training, and incorporate STEM training.

Our studio worked collaboratively on all aspects of the site including: the education center, the agricultural fields, the greenhouse, the country store, the proposed market, the outdoor activities building, the various sports fields / courts, the lake and much more.

Also, as part of the fabrication team, we worked in Georgia Tech’s Digital Fabrication Lab to produce supplementary elements on site.

ARCH 3152 - Materials and Methods

I studied different types of building constructions / make-ups in a materials and methods studio. Each building facade has dimensions of 24 by 24 feet. Listed next to each wall section are the building materials making up the wall - that work specifically with Philadelphia’s climate. I had the freedom of designing each facade however I pleased so long as I followed the specific construction type given for each facade.

Rendering

Revi-Lution is a group project for a multi-use building. We had the freedom to design this building as we pleased, so long as we fulfilled certain programmatic requirements. I primarily focused on the building skin and facade, engineering requirements and the views.

.08 911 EMS CENTER KENT COUNTY

CRABTREE, ROHRBAUGH & ASSOCIATES

Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates assigned me to create a design for the new two-story sheriff’s office and 911 EMS Center with the critiquing of my Project Manager. For this project proposal, we decided to provide clients with two options: option one - the differentiating factor being a clerestory roof, and option two - the differentiating factor being the flat roof. The clients ended up choosing option one due to the supplementary admittance of natural light and fresh air as well as for aesthetic purposes.

The Gloria M. Olewine Gallery is located in the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates gave me the opportunity to discover the design concept of this gallery entrance with the critiquing of my Project Manager.

Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates assigned me to create a concept for a renovation in the Whitaker Center, located in Harrisburg, where they are turning a former gift shop into an Esports gaming area. I redesigned the space, with some critique from my project manager, then worked with another intern to speedily produce multiple rendered views for a presentation.

NOS Design - Rome Internship

VILLA VETTICA NOS DESIGN

At NOS design, I turned blueprints of plans and sections into 3d models in rhino and AutoCad. I transformed drawings into aesthetic illustrations to be documented in a small booklet. I produced renders of specific key rooms in villa vettica, including the master bedroom suit and the master bathroom as well as a detailed map of the terraced land and sea surrounding this beautiful home-turned-hotel. The villa strictly involved renovations due to the historical significance. In addition, the nos design team decided to incorporate a lot of elements into this house native to the Amalfi land and culture. These elements are: terracotta pavements, vault-shaped ceilings, and calacatta marble.

Choreography Stair Section

I explored many different mediums including: graphite (ranging from white to black), charcoal, and conte.

In a project were we recorded the appendages of the human body while preforming choreography, students used the data to push and pull architectural elements based off of the body movements. I drew with white graphite and chalk to produce a section of wooden dowels being displaced by body movement (image A). In another project, we took multiple trips to Elkins Park to study and map out trees with the natural topography of the land. In images B and C, I drew sections and plans of the site using graphite. In image D, I created a modular, flower-like element as a new fabric / skin to the site using conte crayons.
