Yana’s Restaurant

Yana’s is a meze style restaurant where connection is encouraged. A place to share a selection of meze platters within groups while enjoying the wonderful weather of Santa Monica. Known for it’s Mediterranean/ California Cuisine fusion and Greek tradition of making the most out of meal.

“Good Things are Meant to be Shared” Based on the concept of incorporating connection, nature, and shape to create a positive atmosphere.

I used sustainable design elements and brought the outside in through materials, natural lighting, curvilinear lines, and open air flow. Bright colors and patterns combined with fun textures and plants liven up the restaurant to increase energy and creativity in guests.

46’-9” Creating flow was important for this floor plan to continue the ideals implemented through the concept. The space is divided into a more public area and a private area. The public area opens to the patio with large bifold doors while the private is tucked away in the back corner. The bar serves as the center where everything else radiates off of.

North Elevation The concept is carried through where you can see it well in these elevations and perspective. The large suspended grid serves as a sculptural piece as well as a way to draw eyes up and out towards the patio and beautiful outdoors.

Material choice was very important for this project because they made a huge impact on the design. The first material choice was the wallpaper and the rest of the design stemmed off of that.

This wallpaper is based off the view of the PCH which you can see from this restaurant.

I then pulled colors from it and added warmth through wood tones and patterns through the floor design.

The main feature of the ceiling was the large skylight placed directly above the bar area.

Natural light was extremely important and this allowed an abundance while creating a focal point above the bar.

Natural materials are seen used for the pendants and sconces while hanging plants were incorporated to bring life into the space.

Centri Financial

Centri Financial is a family owned company located in Berkeley, California. Because it is family owned, sense of community was a very important aspect to the design. The concept was based off of three words; Community, Balance, and Strength. Creating a space that feels like an extension of home where guests feel comfortable and relaxed.

In order to accomplish this, a space was created that makes guests feel connected to their community. The main feature being a virtual wall showcasing local art and news, as well as financial related information. Warm accents, comfortable furnishings, and modern touches combine for a great experience.

The floor plan went through multiple changes before the perfect layout was created. With the virtual wall being the focal point and everything else surrounding it. In order to make it functional and convienent, there are virtual check in kiosks and multiple areas to wait.

Also a concierge is available to those who do not want to use virtual options.

Due to the importance of community, furnishings and decor were carefully chosen to reflect the Bay Area.

On this wall you can see a mural done by a local artist of the landscape of the Bay Area. Blue is brought in to warm the space and play homage to the colors of the ocean.

Hydrise Engineering Office

Hydrise Engineering is a large firm that needed a comfortable office space. Working with an open concept plan I was able to create a space that was efficient yet warm. In order to promote creativity through the design, I brought in plants and a living wall in the lobby, as well as colorful floor tiles and decor.

The client had requests when it came to budget and functionality so working with those requests while adding elements that uplifted the employees was important. A custom reception desk was incorporated to make the office feel unique. Lighting systems throughout help cement the functionality of the office. Everything came together cohesively for a bright, functional space.

Materials and design elements were chose intentionally to add to productivity of the workplace. Simple patterns and textures add interest while not being too distracting.

Comfortable furniture, lots of lighting, decor pieces such as plants add to the aesthetic.

Strong House

The Strong House was a final project in a hand drafting class. This project specifically showcases the technical side of design. It is a single family home in Sacramento and was fully designed starting from the floor plan. It was important to create a functional space for a family of four with two dogs. They requested a traditional style with modern touches such as an open floor plan.

Hygge Wine Bar

Hygge is “a quality of coziness and comfortability that engineers a feeling of contentment or well being.” Because this wine bar is located in Solvang, it draws inspiration from Danish culture.

The concept was to create a cozy and welcoming space for people to be able to relax and enjoy some good food and wine with friends.

Design elements are based off modern Scandinavian style and mixed with traditional elements to make guests feel comfortable. Simple furnishings. warm accents, and modern touches bring everything together.

It was very important to make the space feel cozy and comfortable while working with a large open area with high ceilings. In order to do this I brought in warm wood tones in the floor and furnishings.

Brick and concrete were added to the walls to add texture. Simple furniture choices and lighting were chosen with light color accents.

Mixing old pieces with new design and adding plants brought the space to life.

Decades House

This home was a part of a color theory course and the prompt was to create a home based off a certain decade in time. This home is based off of the 1940’s and the colors seen during World War II. Drawing inspiration from the many ad posters during that time as well as miltary uniforms, I was able to create a color palette.

Not only was the color palette based off of the 1940’s, I decided to take my design in that direction as well. Using materials, textures, patterns, and shapes often seen then and transforming them into a modern home.

Material and furniture choice was very important in order to correctly convey the color pallete in a tasteful way that honored the history. Bringing in many colors throughout but carefully using in them order to create a balance. The furniture was a great way to incorporate colors and mid century design into the home.
