SHLAND -Although budget planning and preparation is a year-long process for Hanover County Public Schools’ administrators, it’s the beginning of the year when the year’s efforts are presented for consideration by the Hanover County School Board. In addition to the regular board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14, two other budget-related sessions are scheduled during the month. Collette resigns as county Republican party chairman By Melody Kinser Managing Editor HANOVER – Nick Collette, who stepped into the office of chairman of the Hanover Republican Committee in June, submitted his resignation on Dec. 28, noting, “2019 has been a challenging year for our committee.” “A couple of weeks ago,” he said, “the final appeal regarding Hanover
County was withdrawn, finally allowing Hanover Republicans to get back on track and focus on winning, just like we did this past November when we re-elected our Republican leaders countywide. Schools for 16 years as the district’s 11th school superintendent. Prior to that, he was the superintendent of schools in Falls Church. His earliest service was as a middle school teacher, middle and high school principal, director of instruction, STEWART D. and assistant ROBERSON superintendent of finance. As an educator for 42 years, he continues as a Professor of Practice for the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. At his retirement in Hanover, he was named Superintendent Emeritus by the Hanover County School Board. Randolph-Macon College awarded him the Honorary Doctorate of Humane see ROBERSON, pg. 4

Phase 1 of the construction project to improve accessibility and safety at the Amtrak stop in Ashland is underway. Soil excavation and curb removal have been completed, which allowed for the structural foundation of the platform has been installed.
