SHLAND -- When the Ashland Theatre opened its doors late last year, the response from the movie-going public was overwhelming, and -- if first impressions are a good indicator of future success -- the $2.1 million renovation project appears off to a roaring start. Last week, Douglas Love, theatre president and CEO, updated Ashland Town Council on the first few weeks of operation, and outlined plans to ensure accessibility to the new facility for all Ashland residents. Love combined the update with the theatre’s budget request for the upcoming year. “We saw our 11,000th patron for movies on Sunday, and we’ve only been open a few days less than three months,” Love told council. An additional 1,500 people streamed through the gates to see concerts and other special events during that period. “We are thrilled with where we are and what we’ve accomplished so far, especially launching and figuring out what should go on inside this theatre,” Love said. “We’ve done nine firstrun movies. We are the only movie theatre in Hanover County, which I say as often as I can.”

Ashland Town Council learned last week that the newly renovated and reopened Ashland Theatre is enjoying great success.
The Concert Series and Classic Movie Festival is well underway and the reception has been positive to both programs. Memberships to the theatre have exceeded 130. “We’re going to be looking at a Hitchcock weekend coming up – and, during Spring Break, we are doing a Bugs Bunny Film Festival,” Love said. see THEATRE, pg. 12
