Comp Plan amendments OK’d By Jim Ridolphi for Ashland-Hanover Local HANOVER — A pair of changes to Hanover County’s recently revised Comprehensive Plan were approved Dec. 12 by the Hanover County Board of Supervisors following public hearings held last week. Approval for the Lewistown Commerce Center’s request to rezone a portion of its Winding Book properties that would allow the construction of 85 townhomes on the commercially designated land required a change to the county’s current Comprehensive Plan. The land use is currently designated Destination Commerce, a classification that does not permit resi-

The applicant asked supervisors to rezone about nine acres to a mixed-use designation and allow the residential element to proceed. Achieving that goal required an amendment to the county’s current Comp Plan, a move that some supervisors considered a step too far. But other members pointed to a need to support Winding Brook and the businesses located there. Planning Department staff originally included the Carter Heights neighborhood in the area requested to be included in the Comp Plan amendment, but the Hanover County Planning Commission limited the see BOARD, pg. 9
