ASHLAND -- Kiddie Kingdom Inc., a 501(c) (3) organization, will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 29, at its current location at 813 Thompson St. (U.S. 54) in Ashland. All are invited to attend the free activities from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. The Kiwanis Club of Ashland will serve hot dogs and there will be refreshments, entertainment and games for all. Kiddie Kingdom began as a community service project in 1968 by the Ashland Christian Church, and, within a year, it became the first day care to be licensed in Hanover County. It was incorporated in 1969 and received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status as an educational organization in 1974. Under the leadership of
Harriet Jones, chairman of the Sunday School, and other church members, Kiddie Kingdom grew very rapidly. From four students at its opening, its enrollment grew to 33 students and five staff within a year. Today, there are 120 students and 27 staff; and Kiddie Kingdom has served well over 1,500 Hanover students in its 50 years. Its rapid growth continued, and, in September 1975, Kiddie Kingdom moved to St. James see KIDDIE, pg. 7
