Wade’s devotion to county remembered By Michael O’Connor Richmond Times-Dispatch

t’s not every day that a county supervisor picks up trash off the side of the road, but that’s exactly the kind of thing longtime Hanover County supervisor Elton Jefferson Wade Sr. was known to do. “People would call about a dead animal on the side of the road,” Sterling Rives, Hanover’s county attorney, said. “Rather than have someone go pick it up, he would.” Mr. Wade died Sunday leaving a legacy of service that played out in his role as a dedicated, pavement-pounding public servant and as a foster parent who cared for 23 children. Mr. Wade was a longtime Hanover school bus driver and

LEED representatives address council about plans for new town hall By Logan Barry for The Hanover Local ASHLAND – Representatives of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design addressed Ashland Town Council on Dec. 19 about the design for the new
Ashland Town Hall that is being planned for construction. LEED is described as a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council to make evaluations on the environmental performances of buildings and to encourage transformation
in markets towards designs that are sustainable. Katie Stodghill and Sam Bowling, both of PMA Architecture in Hilton Village, represented LEED at the meeting. The LEED report evaluated eight elements surrounding how
the new town hall can be designed in terms of environmental quality. These included: location and transport, indoor environmental quality, water efficiency, innovation and design, energy and atmosphere, sustainable sites, materials and resources as well as longevity.
Stodghill and Bowling said they were hopeful they would receive a confirmation from council in terms of which plan members want to go with for the building’s design. There are three plans offered, see COUNCIL, pg. 2
