According to the Department of Rail and Public Transportation in Richmond, arrangements were still being made on a site for the next Town of Ashland/ Hanover County Area Community Advisory Committee meeting. According to the website, the DRPT has been work-
ing with North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia to advance high speed rail in the Southeast. The corridor will connect Washington, D.C., Richmond, Raleigh, North Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia, with a spur from Richmond to Hampton Roads.

Ashland Police Department issues traffic alert for half-marathon Contributed Report news@mechlocal.com ASHLAND – The Ashland Police Department is asking that motor vehicle traffic proceed with caution between the hours of 7 and 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, while the Patrick Henry Half-Marathon is taking place. Members of the APD, Hanover County Sheriff ’s Office and community volunteers will be directing traffic and monitoring the event throughout the Town of Ashland and Hanover County roadways to assist motorists during the event. Officer Chip Watts, public information officer and community policing for the APD, said, “No vehicles may be parked on the west side of the railroad tracks after 5 a.m. for the entire length of North Center Street as well as on South Center Street to Early Street.” He also said that travelers utilizing the
