Jail avoided after road rage A Christchurch man will serve sentences of community detention and community work for a serious road rage incident that played out on State Highway 1 near Chertsey last year. Tony James Bates, 46, had pleaded guilty to charges of assault and wilful damage when he appeared in the Ashburton District Court yesterday.
