Methven on rodeo weekend historically becomes a town full of alcohol-fuelled revellers keen on having a good night. But this year has been different. The Methven Rodeo was held at the Methven Showgrounds on Sunday and saw thousands of people come to the area from all over the country. Constable Aaron Tapp, of Meth-
ven, said police had extra staff from Ashburton and Christchurch in town due to the sheer number of people who came to party after the event and to monitor behaviour and alcohol-related offending. crowds had behaved well, Mr Tapp said. “It’s more of a family atmosphere.” There would always be people whose behaviour warranted a word from police, but most years a few would also be ejected from the event. Rodeo president Tom Plunkett said he was pleased with the crowd and the whole event was a success with more than 330 entries.
