$2.5m tagged for gallery The Ashburton District Council will later this week move to put in place a $2.5 million provision for potential remedial work on the beleaguered Ashburton Art Gallery and Heritage Centre. In a public statement yesterday, the council confirmed that the budget provision, which is well above the previous expected figures to make repairs on the building, will be discussed at this week’s council meeting. Yesterday’s statement again confirmed that the council was aware of the issues at the building during extreme weather conditions since the building had become fully occupied.
Specifically, investigations identified issues related to weather tightness and thermal bridging. It was also determined that the air-conditioning system is not working to expectations. Ashburton Mayor Donna Favel said in the release that council was aware of its role in ensuring the continued success of the gallery and heritage centre.
