Police seek information By Jaime Pitt-MacKay Jaime.p@theguardian.co.nz

Big week ahead P24

Enquiries are still being made into a fire that is believed to have been deliberately lit at a Cambridge Street address last week and police are appealing for information from the public. The house was severely damaged by the fire, with both investigators from Fire and Emergency New Zealand and the police completing scene examinations and determining the fire had been deliberately lit. Police appealed for anyone from the public who may have seen anything

suspicious to come forward. A police spokesperson confirmed to the Guardian on Monday that no progress had been made and that enquiries were still ongoing. Ashburton police were looking to speak to anyone who was in the Cambridge and Wellington streets area between 9.30am and 10am on Thursday, May 16, and who may have seen something suspicious or someone acting suspiciously. Information can be passed on to Ashburton police on 03 307-8400 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on

0800 555-111. Firefighters were called to the Cambridge Street address at around 10am on Thursday, with a total of four crews attending the scene. The property remained cordoned off by police tape on Monday afternoon. Another house fire in Mid Canterbury that occurred last week was been deemed non-suspicious and is believed to have been caused by a fireplace.
