It cost ratepayers about $30,000 to fund two Ashburton District Council commissioned reports that ultimately resulted in the closure of Ashburton’s i-SITE. When Experience Mid Canterbury held its annual meeting last week people wanted to know the costs of those reports. There were no immediate answers, however, council group manager business support Paul Brake has crunched
the numbers and provided an approximate tally. The first, the Moran Report written in 2011 came with a $12,000 price tag, while a second, the McCredy-Winder report was written last year. It came with an all-up cost of $35,000 but was made up of two sets of reviews and recommendations, one for Experience Mid Canterbury and the second for the now defunct Grow Mid Canterbury. And while the costs were not broken down for the second report, Brake said
it was fair to say they could be divided equally. In the McCredy Winder report, it showed that 38 per cent of the $386,000 granted by the council to EMC last year was spent on running the Ashburton and Methven i-SITES. For that investment the two centres earned $124,929 in revenue giving a total loss of $48,000 for the year.
