I am a diploma student who possesses knowledge and technical skills in the architectural and built environmental field.

I am someone who enjoys being around and having meaningful conversations with people, which also explains my user-centric mindset.

Living and growing up in Singapore, amongst the rapid urbanisation and increasing infrastructure development, I aspire to create meaningful and engaging spatial experiences for users in my designs. I also see myself as a optimistic, open-minded person who constantly strives for self-improvement and seizes any opportunities before me.

01 KAMPUNG OASIS Taking into consideration the densely lined rows of shophouses and the bustling nightlife of Kampong Glam, Kampung Oasis will introduce and allow for a contrasting spatial experience for the community. Situated in the core centre of Kampong Glam, Kampung Oasis is a space to promote a stronger visual arts scene and encourage deeper appreciation towards greenery by making use of triple volume spaces and openness in connectivity between indoor and outdoor.

CONCEPT COLLAGE Modern. Funky.

Heritage. Traditions. Religion.

I was inspired by today’s Kampong Glam, with streets and alleys covered widely in murals and graffitis. These rows of dense shophouses bring about heavy human traffic flow due to its distinct vibrancy added to the vicinity.

I was inspired by traditonal, Malay Vernacular house (architecture) which visually recognised for its deep overhangs and pitched roofs. It is also designed to allow for good thermal insulation as it holds little heat from the house in the day and cools it down at night.

Islamic prints and patterns also showcases its consistent symmetrical, geometrical forms.

1. Triple-Volume Atrium The triple volume space encourages natural lighting and ventilation into the central public zone. Large use of floor-to-ceiling glass panels also allow for users to look into and down into various interior spaces.

Facade treatment of the wall and roof allows for natural castings at different angles and spaces through the day, according to the sun direction.

2. Outdoor Landscape Decking The use of stairs and ramps, leads up to the main deck, providing connectivity between the interior and exterior spaces. Various pockets of greenery “cut-outs” are designed for community gardening in small groups. This allows for social distancing as considered during a pandemic settings at the time of design.

Planter box style gardening is also provided at interval height platforms as well as seatings for users to sit and relax around.

3. Room for greenery-related workshops Small sized classroom-like setting encourages users of all ages to learn various skillset in relation to greenery like flower arrangement at a more private scale.

4. Green Cafe The over-the-counter concept allows users to see food being prepared on top of enjoying their meals. Some herbs and vegetables used are from the community garden above (at the outdoor landscape deck). Both counter seats as well as round tables are provided accordingly for different spatial experiences and needs of the users.

5. Art Studio With the strong art influence of Kampong Glam, users can participate in visual arts related activites like drawing and painting lessons.

6. Reception Area cum Digital & Study Room With Kampong Glam, situated near the Central Business District (CBD and its centralised location in Singapore, users of all ages from working adults to students can make use of this space.

02 PATH OF SERENITY Path of Serenity was inspired to provide users with a contrasting spatial experience through the use of variating volumes. With the implementation of 2 main curvatures, it forms a semi-porous tunnel-like shell that integrates the lushful greenery on site which breaks away from the repeitive and regid design language seen in the vicinity.

Not only is Path of Serenity a space for users to stop by and relax away from the bulk of noise of the other popular streets like Arab Street and Haji Lane, it also acts as an alternative stopover for avid cyclist in Singapore. With Kampong Glam being slightly off-route from the common route taken by many, Stadium to Marina Bay, it can serve as a potential spot for cyclist to include as a resting point in their route for food or rest. With Path of Serenity designed to be located outdoors and taken into account of the current Covid-19 pandemic situation, it can also provide non-vaccinated persons to dine out with others in a place of proper sitting and comfort.

03 EXPRESS 2.3

A four-storey building with four very different experiences to experience.By making use of various materials, users will have the opportunity to express themselves through the expressive features incooporated in the building. The curved, fluid form was designed to allow each respective user to interact in different pocket of spaces according to the choice of activity. Since this building was designed during the midst of Covid-19,it is also more carefully designed for social distancing.

To act as a spatial platform for users to express themselves by adaptation and integration of materials and curvature in form.

1. Open Viewing Deck Users can look down into the landscape. Due to the centralised location of the building, it also provides users to the view of the neighbouring buildings and landscapes.

2. Cafe Counter Bar One of the areas that users can sit to enjoy their meals.

Influenced by curvature of the spiral stairs, the cafe bar counter encourages connectivity between Express 2.3 and the pavement leading to the green spaces.

3. Sliding Vertical Louvred Walls Users can adjust louvres according to the sunpath as well as their liking which also purposely allows the building form to change slightly, each time a different user uses the building. This gives the building an everchanging and different facade everytime users come. Movement of lourved walls also allow users to control the sunshading of the building.

4. Mirrored Ceiling On the third storey, because of the reflection, users on one area of the floor can see other users on the same floor, sparking expression of curiosity. amongst users.

6.Green Space Seats are provided along the landscape and curved pavement leading to Express 2.3 for users to sit and feel relaxed. It provides a sense of delayed surprise as users can first take in and appreciate the landscape before being led to Express 2.3.

03 THE BALANCE @ CCK

Situated in western side of Singapore, in a convenient, centralised spot of Choa Chu Kang (CCK), The Balance @ CCK takes on a different approach from other typical public housing seen in the neighbouring.

It is designed to be suitable for large majority group in CCK, families with working adults and schooling children because of the many educational-related institutes nearby. It incoporates activities that encourage both family bonding as well as conducive studying & working. The symmetrical outlook of the building against the growing, intertwining greenery providex an overall balanced appearance. The variety of greenery used at different areas around the building also provides residents with different experiences.

SECTIONS

1. Studying & Working Corner Designed with the intention for residents seeking for the next most comfortable, convenient space while having a change of environment from their own home, the idea of a ‘second home’ to work and study within. Its open concept allows for natural ventilation and controlled sunlight through the use of functional semi-porous shelves on one side of the space.

2. Community Garden Residents can grow their own produce and flowers amongst their families of all ages or even with one another, promoting both family bonding and neighbourliness. It is also purposely designed in front of the drop off point and closest to the main entrance to the building. This is in hope to encourage residents to pop by the garden when circulating to anf fro the building.

3. Access Corridor to housing From access corridors of all floors, residents has a clear view to the lushful greenery like the 5 storey high double green walls and trees lining up along the entrance pathway.

The large usage of greenery and semi porous railings also increases cross ventilation through the building.

04 SEMBALUN PLAY SCHOOL

For the people of Sembalun Village, East Lombok, Indonesia, Sembalun Play School serves more than its sole purpose of being a school for children but a quasi community centre where anyone are welcomed. The building is clearly separated into 3 main zones, one for leisure, education and circulation (between floors).It is designed with a focus on having a playground that engages and encourages children to climb or slide from high to low heights and understanding of balance between heavy and light. Due to its location andclimatic conditions, being on a mountain with cooler temperatures, it is harder to gain access to some construction materials. Furthermore, many children also still feel psychologically, physically affected by the Earthquake in 2018 . Hence, Sembalun Play School makes use of large amounts of bamboo gathered by Aurbamboo for many structural details like its semi porous classroom walls which promotes natural cross ventilation as well as open up enclosed spaces as much as possible.

To create a space that cultivates locomotor and deep play amongst children through the use of height and volume, providing enjoyment and recreation beyond classroom activities.

04 YDA The design style of this home is industrial minimalism while incorporating mostly monochromatic colours. Industrial minimalism itself usually makes use of neutral, grey andearthy tones and the raw, rough state of materials.

Having taken into consideration the home owners’ active, vibrant lifestyle in various fields of interest, ranging from work to entertaiment, I felt that by applying the essence of industrial minimalism in their living space would balance and complement well against the vivid dynamics of the home owners. This is because the minimalist design not only simplifies and allows for an uncluttered space but also entitles them to dedicate more space for their interest respectively. In order to further satisfy the home owners’ needs, the choice of minimalism also allows for the prevention of the sight of dust mites as well easily having an open concept kitchen.

Most walls and floor, especially common spaces like the living room and kitchen are all made up of one single material, raw smooth concrete which gives the space the illusion of a longer and larger area that it actually is. Because of the nature of raw, uncoated smooth concrete, it gives off a very distinct and industrial feel apart from a strong, seamless character to the space. Raw concrete tends to have uneven shades of grey, making every wall and floor area unique as the way it is. Other materials used are wooden oak panels, slate tiles and limestone tiles. Wooden oak panels cover all bedroom floors which provides a transition between the external common area and each home owners’ personalised private space. Wooden oak flooring also gives off a warmer atmosphere to the rooms from its orange and brown hues. Dark grey slate tiles used against the light green limestone tiles also showcase a pop of colour to the enclosed space without being too striking. The use of light green limestone tiles were inspired by the old-fashioned mid century retro tiles.

Dining table is located directly beside large bay windows which let in large amounts of sunlight and allowance for ventilation between fresh air and food smell.

It is also located in the centre point of the house which accentuates on the idea for family and

togetherness.

A simple, one row kitchen is used so as to ensure ample space for the family to cook together as requested.

Laundry and additional household-related storage is in the storage room. This allows for a distinct separation away from food and kitchen for better hygiene.

Large bay window is also provided to allow for cross ventilation in the space.

Space is exceptionally wide as compared to a average kitchen space for easy maneuvering about for the wheelchair bound grandmother.

Besides cooking together, the family can also express their personal interests with one another.

Lounge provides for an additional common, conducive environment for the family besides their own rooms.

a multi-purpose, 250mm raised platform is also built for the husband to practice his golf skills at home and the wife to play the cello. Holes are also built into the platform. They are both for the husband to aim and hit balls into as well as for the wife to rest her cello into without creating any damage to the wall surface when playing. Holes can also be covered and raised platform can also serve other functions in the future.

It is exceptionally suitable for the husband to do his work there and the son to do his homework or revision.

With the knowledge that the wife enjoys reading from her large collection of books and the husband often works from the comfort of home, the lounge area was designed. “C” frame shaped tables by the lounge allows the husband and wife to read and work on in comfort. The tables are both functional and space efficient as they can be pushed and kept up against the wall bench. Furthermore, they are also modular, Allowing tables to be joined into one big table for the whole family to sit together too.

With the large bay windows in place, large amount of sunlight and ventilation are also brought into the space, increasing comfort and conduciveness to the space.

Due to the large area, bedside tables are provided for both the husband and wife to store their personal item in a convenient space respectively.

Use of an open style wardrobes is also highly incorporated in this home. To provide a more open, porous illusion to the rooms, I have opted for open style wardrobes as they tend to provide more shelving units for better organisation.

A walk-in open concept wardrobe and dresser is also installed. It allows for more space to store clothes as compared to a regular wardrobe.
